London Underground strikes set for January

The start of 2024 for Londoners could be disruptive as London Underground staff plan strikes.

00:00 London Underground workers will stage a series of strikes this year in continuing dispute

00:07 over pay with the first industrial action taking place during the first two weeks of

00:11 January. The RMT, TSSA and Unite all recently rejected a 5% pay rise offer from TfL which

00:20 prompted union members to plan a rolling programme of protests featuring two full days of strikes.

00:27 The programme will kick off at the start of the month and action will be taken from Friday

00:32 January 5th to Friday January 12th. Despite not all RMT workers on the London Underground

00:39 going on strike for that entire time, there will be two days of full workforce strikes.

00:45 RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said tube workers who help bring in vast amounts of

00:50 value to the London economy were not going to put up with senior managers and commissioners

00:55 raking it in while they were given modest below inflation offers. A TfL spokesman has

01:02 said in response that they are disappointed that the RMT has announced strike action based

01:07 on a full final pay offer. The TfL say it has been clear throughout discussions with

01:13 trade unions and that this offer is the most TfL can afford whilst ensuring it can operate
