00:00Undoubtedly huge relief to Londoners. Tube strikes, set to cripple the capital on Tuesday through to Friday, have been called
00:09off after the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union, or RMT, announced at the 11th hour.
00:16TfL shifted its position, allowing them to further explore their members' concerns around the imposition of new rosters, fatigue and
00:26safety issues.
00:27Strikes scheduled for the 16th and 18th of June have also been called off, but the union announced new 24
00:38-hour strikes on the 2nd and 4th of June if the dispute remains unsolved.
00:45The union says its members oppose a new four-day working week arrangement on the Underground, which sparked previous strikes
00:53earlier this year.
00:54Nick Dent, the Director of Customer Operations for London Underground, said they are pleased that the RMT has withdrawn its
01:02planned industrial action this week, adding this is good news for London.
01:07He added that their proposal for a voluntary four-day week is designed to improve both work-life balance for
01:15drivers and the reliability of service for customers.
01:18He said that they look forward to further discussions on the implementation of these proposals with all of their trade
01:26unions.
