00:00 Striking actors who planned on dressing up as Barbie or Ken this Halloween are going
00:03 to have to rethink their costumes.
00:07 SAG-AFTRA has issued some strict costume guidelines for celebrating the spooky holiday amid the
00:11 ongoing strike, and some actors are calling them out.
00:14 The union is prohibiting actors from dressing up as popular characters from struck content
00:18 like the Barbie movie or Netflix's Wednesday, and then posting the images on social media.
00:23 Instead, the guild told members on Thursday to "choose costumes inspired by generalized
00:28 characters and figures — ghost, zombie, spider, etc."
00:32 SAG-AFTRA says members can dress up as characters from non-struck content, like an animated
00:36 TV show.
00:37 However, Marvel superheroes are not allowed despite having comic book roots because they're
00:41 owned by Disney.
00:42 The union wrote, "Let's use our collective power to send a loud and clear message to
00:46 our struck employers that we will not promote their content without a fair contract."
00:50 Some actors quickly took to social media to call the rules "over the top."
00:54 Mandy Moore wrote on her Instagram story, "Is this a joke?
00:57 Come on SAG-AFTRA.
00:58 This is what's important?
00:59 We're asking you to negotiate in good faith on our behalf.
01:02 So many folks across every aspect of this industry have been sacrificing mightily for
01:07 months.
01:08 Get back to the table and get a fair deal so everyone can get back to work."
01:11 Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds mocked the rule on "X," writing, "I look forward to screaming
01:15 scab at my 8 year old all night.
01:17 She's not in the union but she needs to learn."
