00:00Olivia Munn is opening up about a frustrating on-set experience with a difficult co-star.
00:05During a recent experience on The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress recalled working with an unnamed
00:10male actor who refused to film a scene as written, simply because her character was supposed to save
00:15his. Munn explained that the moment took place during a gunfight sequence set in an underground
00:20bunker, where the script clearly had her character stepping in to stop an attacker from shooting her
00:25co-star in the back. And I remember I was in this bunker once, and if you read the script,
00:30it was that he was guarding his side, I was guarding my side, then we switched sides,
00:35and then there's a guy that was coming for him who was going to shoot him in the back, so
00:38I
00:38shoot him. And then we're about to shoot, and somehow, I guess he didn't read the script,
00:42and in that moment he realized, wait, wait, wait, hold on, she can't save me. No, no, she can't save
00:48me.
00:49After about 45 minutes of delays, Munn came up with the workaround, suggesting they reframe the action
00:54so it appeared as though they were simply switching targets. While the actor agreed,
00:59Munn had this to add. Now here's the interesting thing, nothing changed. Yeah. It's just what he
01:05thought. Yeah. I was doing the exact same thing. Yeah. The moment drew laughs and cheers from the
01:10audience, but it's not the first time Munn has spoken out about challenges working in Hollywood.
01:14She previously shared that a visiting newsroom director once gave her notes she disagreed with,
01:19and later bad-mouthed her in an attempt to hurt her chances at landing another role.
01:24She ultimately still booked the job. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter,
01:29Munn reflected on what those experiences have taught her about navigating the industry.
01:33It's playing the game a bit more, she said, acknowledging the balance between standing
01:37her ground and protecting her career. I should be able to speak up for myself, Munn added,
01:42so I've realized I'm going to handle situations in a way that gets the best outcome for me.
01:46She also noted that what she once viewed as stubbornness from other actors,
01:50she now sees differently. It's a way to protect your art and your choices with the character,
01:55Munn said, adding that she hopes her experiences help other actresses to do the same.
