00:00Carol G is preparing to make history at Coachella, and she says her performance could carry a deeper message.
00:05The Colombian superstar, who will become the first Latina artist to headline the festival,
00:10recently told Playboy that she wants to use the moment to represent the Latin community in a meaningful way.
00:16In the interview, Carol G addressed the risks artists face when speaking out,
00:20particularly around immigration policies in the United States,
00:24noting concerns around potential consequences like losing a visa.
00:27She says, quote, people will say it's better you don't.
00:30Why? Because if you say the thing, maybe the next day you'll get a call.
00:34Hey, we're taking your visa away.
00:36You become bait because some people want to show their power.
00:39Rather than repeating commonly used phrases,
00:42the singer says she's being intentional about what she wants to say and how she says it.
00:46She says, quote, I don't want to just say ice out and have nothing come from it.
00:50I'm probably going to go a little harder than that.
00:52I just want to represent my community.
00:54But what I'm telling you is that as a human being, I want that to mean more.
00:59I'm not saying that I'm not going to do it.
01:01What I'm saying is that I would do it and I will do it with my soul.
01:04But I want to sit down and understand in my head, here's what that meant.
01:08She also spoke about being intentional with her timing.
01:10I have a huge stage and that's why I want to wait.
01:13And if someone was to ever do something to me, I want to stand firmly on my stage for my
01:17community.
01:18So that's why I may have to be more careful and wait for my turn
01:21and ensure that through that opportunity, I can talk and represent something more.
01:26Carol G is set to headline Coachella on Sunday night for both festival weekends,
01:29following performances from Sabrina Carpenter and Justin Bieber.
