00:03 A Derbyshire teenager has been charged with murdering his ex-partner's baby boy.

00:09 Police officers were called to an address in Acorn Drive in Belper just before 10.50pm

00:13 on Sunday, January 2nd 2022, following a report that a young baby was in cardiac arrest.

00:20 Elijah Shemwell, who was just four months old, was taken to hospital by ambulance, but

00:24 sadly died on Wednesday, January 5th.

00:28 Yesterday the Crown Prosecution Service agreed the following charges for both Karl Aylesbrook

00:33 and Elijah's mother, India Shemwell, who were in a relationship at the time of Elijah's

00:38 death.

00:39 Karl Aylesbrook, aged 18, of Upper Greenhill Gardens in Matlock, has been charged with

00:44 the murder of Elijah Shemwell, as well as section 20, inflicting grievous bodily harm

00:48 to Elijah, and a section 18 charge of causing grievous bodily harm to Elijah.

00:53 India Shemwell, who is aged 22, of Rosehill Street in Derby, has been charged with two

00:58 counts of cruelty to a person under 16.

01:02 India Shemwell has been released on police bail, while Karl Aylesbrook has been remanded

01:06 into police custody.

01:07 He is due to appear before Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court today.

01:52 Kelvin is an ambassador for the Peak District National Park Foundation, a charity which

01:57 helped to raise money for the national park.
