00:03Derbyshire residents say they have been left shocked to learn that developers have been given

00:07more time to convince council planners of the merits of a controversial housing scheme for 180

00:12homes in the countryside. North East Derbyshire District Council's Planning Committee agreed to

00:17delay any decision over Ripon Homes application to build 180 homes on land near Spindle Drive

00:23and Deerlands Road at Wingerwith. Council planning officers have already recommended the application

00:28be refused on the grounds that it does not fall into the council's local plan and would result in

00:33a loss of biodiversity. There have also been 155 objections during a consultation exercise

00:40with concerns raised over flooding, an increased strain on schools and medical services,

00:44and traffic congestion. However, the Planning Committee has agreed to further discussions with

00:49the applicant to address issues around floodable housing and biodiversity before making any final

00:55decision on the controversial scheme. Police are appealing for information from the public

01:01after a convicted robber went on the run from a prison in Derbyshire.

01:05Raymond McMahon did not return to HMP Sudbury on Saturday after day release.

01:09He was serving a sentence for robbery and is described as white, around 5 feet 10 inches tall,

01:14and of medium build with short black hair. Members of the public are asked not to

01:18approach McMahon if they see him, but to contact Derbyshire Police.
