00:02 A struggling North Derbyshire farming family has been left disappointed but defiant after

00:08 planners refused to give them the go-ahead to open a new village shop and cafe on Greenbeltland.

00:12 North East Derbyshire District Council refused Elizabeth Wood's planning application for

00:18 temporary permission to have a mobile farm shop and cafe with access and parking for 10 cars

00:23 on Greenbeltland in Cutthorpe to support her family's dairy farm.

00:28 Planning Officer Alice Lockett told the meeting that the proposal represented an

00:32 "inappropriate development on Greenbeltland" and its design with parking would harm the

00:36 character of the landscape. Following the meeting, Ms Wood of F Wood and Son said,

00:41 "Thanks to everyone who has supported us because the overwhelming support was immense.

00:45 It's disappointing to see how the councillors looked at one side of the argument instead of

00:50 looking at all the support and the arguments that have been given, but I can safely say that this is

00:54 not the end of it." Ms Wood's plan had attracted 52 letters of support which were submitted to the

00:59 council and many speakers voiced their reasons for backing the scheme during the meeting.

01:03 Arguments in favour of the farm shop and cafe included providing a valuable community hub

01:09 and shop with locally sourced produce for the village which has no shops, providing a much

01:13 needed source of income for a farm and support for a local business. But the council said they

01:18 believe the building is not to be used for an agricultural purpose despite the applicants

01:22 claim it is a farm business and the council believes the development would urbanise and

01:26 affect the openness and character of the area. Pension campaigners have stepped up their battle

01:33 for compensation by releasing a song written and recorded in Chesterfield. North Derbyshire

01:39 Waspie Group are targeting their single "We've Been Stung" at regional and national radio stations.

01:44 The song is an original that was composed by Robert Loughlin who plays the music. "We've

01:49 Been Stung" was performed in the group's play about their campaign which was written by Lynne

01:53 Luddit and directed by Carol Copeland with all artists in the Chesterfield area and staged at

01:58 the town's West Studios Theatre. Waspie is battling for compensation for thousands of 50s born women

02:05 affected by the state pension age changes which were not communicated to them. Two in five say

02:10 they had already retired or reduced their hours by the time that they found out they would not

02:14 receive a full pension at 60. Others say they had their plans to retire ruined with less than 12

02:19 months notice.
