00:00Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.
00:03Derbyshire residents are still waiting for action on a play area they describe as rotten and rusting,
00:09years after nearly £100,000 was promised for improvements.
00:13Villages in South Wingfield have been campaigning for action on the High Road Player area,
00:18which has not been upgraded since it was installed in 1997.
00:23Amber Valley Borough Council, which owns the play area,
00:25says it has been waiting for payments, known as Section 106 funding,
00:30owed by developers behind two neighbouring housing developments in order to maximise improvements on the site,
00:36which they claim still has years left of viable use.
00:39An online petition started by residents last year calling for action on the play area has now gathered more than 900 signatures.
00:49A Chesterfield primary school has opened a brand new garden area,
00:53which features four planters depicting the different seasons.
00:56Walt and Holymooreside Primary School unveiled the garden centre yesterday.
01:01The mini garden, which was designed by the school's pupils,
01:04includes four planters each representing a different season.
01:08Plants were donated by Dobby's Garden Centre and the Parish Council,
01:11with children from the school's gardening club working hard to make sure the garden looked impeccable for the opening ceremony.
01:18Ian Holmes, who is head teacher at Holymooreside Primary School, said,
01:21It was a really lovely event.
01:24It was great to be able to thank and recognise all the various generous contributions from local people,
01:29Dobby's Garden Centre and the council.
01:32It's a real example of the community coming together to turn a drab space into something that children can enjoy.
