00:00The clerk will take this.
00:04A heated exchange between Prime Minister Kamala Passat-Bissessa and Opposition MP Fadigo Martin Northeast,
00:12Colmenbert, in the House of Representatives on November 21st, has exploded across social media.
00:18While the People's National Movement Women's League has come out in criticism of the Prime Minister,
00:23expressing concern over the remarks, it says the statement is inappropriate,
00:27deeply troubling, and wholly unbecoming of the holder of the office of the Prime Minister.
00:33The PNM Women's League says Parliament must never become a space where violent expressions are normalized and encouraged,
00:41and more so at a time when the country is battling an increase in violence, indiscipline, and disrespect.
00:48It further expresses a belief that the onus is on leaders to set an example,
00:52and it questions how the Prime Minister, in demonstrating that behavior,
00:56can speak to young people on violence, conflict resolution, etc.
01:01The United National Congress Women's League has responded,
01:04condemning what it calls the quote-unquote regressive and misleading statement issued by the PNM Women's League.
01:11It claims that Imbit aggressively pointed his fingers at the Prime Minister
01:15in what it views as a disrespectful, intimidating, and hostile gesture.
01:20The UNC Women's League says,
01:22Any woman, in any setting, would understand that this was a rightful act of self-defense.
01:29Rather than reflect on his own conduct, Imbit escalated a confrontation with a threatening retort, or what?
01:36This was not parliamentary debate.
01:38This was a classic case of male intimidation.
01:41The league says Passat-Bissetta stood her ground and refers to the PNM Women's League comments
01:48as victim-blaming and woman-shaming, as it expresses support behind the action of the Prime Minister.
01:54Meanwhile, Imbit took to his Twitter account to comment on the matter, saying,
01:58Last Friday, the PM, who is the chairman of the National Security Council, threatened physical assault in Parliament.
02:06This did not appear to be banter, but rather a statement of intent to be violent
02:10from the person responsible for anti-crime policy in TNT.
02:14Where are we going?
02:16Alicia Boucher, TV6 News.
