In an immediate response, Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan told TV6 News that he welcomes a meeting with the Tobago arm of the Chamber and there's need for a letter to make it happen.

In fact, Minister Sinanan told TV6's Elizabeth Williams that the cargo vessel the MV Emprendedora now servicing the route is not a permanent fixture.

00:00 And this is just a temporary measure.
00:02 We are expecting to have significant progress on the car booster back on the route shortly.
00:09 Once that starts back, then this vessel comes out.
00:11 This is just a temporary vessel because we want to facilitate all the trucks that needs
00:18 to go to Tobago.
00:19 So although we move a significant amount of them on the passenger vessels, we recognize
00:24 the long trailer trucks would have had a challenge there.
00:28 So this vessel is ready to take long trailer trucks, containers and any construction material
00:33 that might have been difficult to go up on the regular passenger vessels.
00:37 Minister Sinanan sought to clarify the situation affecting some truckers.
00:43 Although we were able to move all the vehicles that came to the port, there were some vehicles
00:48 because of the size that couldn't be accommodated and those are now being accommodated on the
00:52 temporary vessel that would have been brought in to service the route.
01:00 Minister Sinanan is also welcoming a meeting with the Tobago arm of the Chamber and intends
01:06 to journey to Tobago next week with his team.
01:10 They don't need to write.
01:11 They don't need to come to Trinidad.
01:12 Now that I know they want a meeting, I will reach out to them and I will immediately facilitate
01:20 that meeting, even if it means I'm going to go to Tobago to meet with them.
01:25 We do have a good relationship that is the port and the shipping agents in Tobago, the
01:33 truckers and everybody, and I want to maintain that relationship.
01:36 So if it is that they request a meeting, I will be more than happy to accommodate them.
01:41 I will not even wait for a letter.
01:43 I will reach out to them today and have that meeting sanctioned.
01:48 We do have a good relationship and we want to maintain that.
01:51 So it's not any animosity or anything.
01:54 And at the end of the day, I don't need a formal request for a meeting.
01:58 Once I know they want a meeting, I will immediately facilitate the meeting.
