00:00And I'm happy that he mentioned and he saw the drastic increase in employment in the THC
00:06and he's willing to put it to a halt.
00:10And I think that augurs well and we in the private sector now, we have to play our part.
00:15And we're willing and more and willing to do our part.
00:19Chief Secretary Farley Augustine announced on Thursday
00:21the proposed employment freeze and called on Tobogonians not to be alarmed as the action is necessary.
00:28There will come a point, Secretary of Financial and Economy,
00:35where I will have to issue an edict of freezing employment in the THC
00:41because we can't just keep going. We can't just keep going. Don't be alarmed.
00:48But PNM Tobago Council political leader, Shant Fakujo Lewis, told the TV6 News
00:52the freezing of the THC employment exposes the lack of ideas by the TPP administration.
00:58In fact, Fakujo Lewis said the chief secretary has brought his problem on himself.
01:05The focus on TPP employment over the years would have been on getting people who can tell their story
01:14and control the narrative rather than counting on people or employing people based on merit
01:20and their ability to do the job. So I think he's also complaining about the problem that he has created.
01:26However, this freezing of hiring, I don't think that it is a brilliant fiscal policy.
01:35To me, it screams that the Tobago House of Assembly is lacking ideas.
01:39They don't have any innovative ways towards treating with the employment situation
01:44and the economic activity problems that we are having in Tobago.
