The Alzheimer's Association of Trinidad and Tobago has launched World Alzheimer's Month, and a keynote of the launch was the need for fostering more awareness and education.
President Christine Kangaloo, who became the Association's patron about three weeks ago was in attendance.
Reporter Alicia Boucher and Cameraman Brandon Benoit bring you the highlights.

00:30 The only way to come to terms with Alzheimer's disease is to get to a place of understanding.

00:42 Understanding that living with the disease, what it feels like, what it means for all
00:49 involved.
00:50 However, Saunders-Clavery states that more awareness would help to reduce stigma.
00:56 I've experienced it because my own father lived with dementia for many years.
01:01 The loose terminology is the person mad.
01:04 Don't worry them, they're mad.
01:06 Suffering with the disease is a term no longer used.
01:10 That has been replaced with living with Alzheimer's or living with dementia.
01:15 The association says a lack of knowledge and skills can sometimes result in abuse.
01:21 And it is not for us to condemn our neighbor or friend or whomever when we see them attempting
01:26 to care for someone living with the disease.
01:29 It is for us to understand there is a way to speak with persons who live with the disease.
01:35 Two videos were shown at the association's launch.
01:38 One depicting care for someone with childhood dementia, and the other on properly communicating
01:43 with people with Alzheimer's and dementia.
01:47 Yuhui Roytek is AZAT's collaborator in education, providing certified courses.
01:52 Its executive director, Wendy Augustus, says there's purpose in the work being done.

02:10 It was the first event held by the association that President Christine Kangaloo attended
