00:00 Let's start, Joe, with Nick Saban.
00:05 So I did see this the other day, yesterday, and I really wanted to get into this with
00:12 you because we love Nick.
00:13 I mean, he likes to basically say whatever he wants, bullies the media a little bit.
00:18 I've seen some guys, including our friend the governor, call him out over said clip
00:23 that we are about to play.
00:24 We still don't know who the starting quarterback is going to be for Alabama.
00:29 They get ready for Middle Tennessee State this week, and guess what, Joe?
00:33 You're not going to know who the starting quarterback or anyone who's starting on Alabama
00:38 is because Nick's not releasing a depth chart this year, Joe.
00:41 Here we go.
00:42 I know that your number one focus is not on the game.
00:49 It's on the depth chart.
00:51 And look, there's a lot of competition on the team.
00:54 And when we put a depth chart out, you all think that's like final.
00:59 Like this is like etched in stone that it's going to be this way forevermore just because
01:04 we come out of fall camp and that's where it is.
01:07 But it creates a lot of distractions on our team, creates a lot of guys thinking that,
01:14 well, this guy won the job now and I'm not going to play or whatever.
01:18 And quite frankly, we don't need that.
01:21 And I want all of our players to continue to compete, continue to compete for playing
01:27 time, to try to play at the highest level.
01:30 And I don't want anybody on our team to think they're a backup player or whatever.
01:37 And you know, the depth chart kind of does that.
01:39 I think most of the players on our team know who should start in the game and who shouldn't
01:44 start.
01:46 But that's something that they do day to day in terms of the way they compete and the way
01:50 they play.
01:51 And nobody's entitled to play just because we put it on a piece of paper and say this
01:55 is the way it is today.
01:57 So I apologize for that.
02:00 But it is what it is.
02:04 It is what it is, Joe, that's for sure.
02:06 Now if it is what it is, then why did he do it every other year before this year?
02:12 If it is what it is.
02:13 How come every other year he released a depth chart?
02:16 And I kind of agree with him on one sense.
02:19 I think the media does make more about it than it actually needs to be.
02:24 So I don't disagree with him on that point.
02:27 But at the same time, who are we fooling here?
02:30 Like you did it every other year.
02:32 Who cares?
02:33 Why?
02:34 Because you don't know who your quarterback is this year?
02:35 Now we can't release the depth chart?
02:36 That's what it comes down to, Joe, at the end of the day.
02:39 Let me say, I've been very critical of Nick Saban, but I think he's right in terms of
02:43 this aspect.
02:44 Why give the defense for Middle Tennessee State the opportunity to prepare for a particular
02:50 player?
02:51 I don't know, maybe an hour before their ballgame.
02:54 And not only that, I remember last year, you're like, oh, last year is going to be Alabama's
02:59 revenge tour, right?
03:01 Well, they went to 10 and 2 overall in the regular season, 11 and 2 after they dismantled
03:07 K-State.
03:08 But I think this year potentially is the revenge tour.
03:11 So I think Nick Saban is all business.
03:14 He's got a brand new box of hair dye, red out.
03:17 His hair looks red as silk.
03:19 I mean, unbelievable.
03:21 He's dolling up, he's tan, and he's ready for the season, baby.
03:24 I'll just say this, they haven't lost a week one matchup since 2001, 21 straight by an
03:30 average margin of victory of 27.3 points per game.
03:35 Yeah, well, they're not losing week one this week either.
03:40 I mean, they're obviously not, Joe, going to lose to Middle Tennessee State.
03:44 Numbers 39 and a half, Carver.
03:46 They covered the 40 and a half last year with Utah State.
03:49 Keep in mind that, 55-0.
03:53 They'll cover it this year too.
03:54 You know what?
03:55 I just took the other side.
03:58 Nah, I'm not so sure about that.
04:00 Middle Tennessee State, they got week two with Texas.
04:03 Joe, they're not playing Miami this year.
04:08 I know they beat Miami last year.
04:09 This isn't Miami.
04:10 They're playing Alabama.
04:11 Playing mighty Alabama.
04:12 And I don't care which, you can play all three quarterbacks on Saturday and they'll cover
04:17 the 39 and a half.
04:18 You like that, Joe?
04:19 I ain't scared about that.
04:20 I ain't scared.
04:21 Go ahead.
04:22 Put it on the radio show.
04:23 Put it on the radio show tonight.
04:24 Put it on.
04:25 Put it on.
04:26 Might be a best bet this week.
04:27 Might be a best bet for Saturday.
04:28 There you go.
04:29 I'm on the other side.
04:30 4-0, Joe.
04:31 4-0 to start the year.
04:33 Might be a best bet on Friday.
04:34 Chest is out already on week one?
04:36 Chest is out already.
04:37 It's a marathon, not a sprint.
04:38 He cocked it already.
04:42 He's got it.
04:43 He's got it.
04:43 (upbeat music)
