The winners of the Indian Responsible Tourism Awards (IRTA) are chosen after an intensive, six-month-long process. The Jury Meet for the fifth edition of IRTA — focused on the travel community’s response to the Covid crisis — was held in December last. The names of the winners will be announced on February 24 next week.

Meanwhile, here’s what one of the members of the IRTA 2021 jury, Meenkashi Sharma, Director General, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India said about this year’s awards.

00:04 It has been an interesting and very engaging experience
00:10 to be part of this jury to decide on the Outlook
00:14 Responsible Tourism Award.
00:16 This is a time when the word responsible tourism, which
00:20 we have always taken as an aspirational goal,
00:24 has become the reality.
00:26 In these times, the nomination which
00:29 were received, the effort which is
00:32 being made by the tourism service provider
00:35 has been amazing.
00:37 It's a lot of learning for all of us.
00:39 It also shows that when there is a will,
00:42 there is so much which can be done
00:44 and in a very engaging fashion.
00:46 So I have been honored to be part of this initiative
00:51 and sharing the experiences of the people who
00:55 are on the front dealing with such difficult situation,
01:01 however, coming out with very innovative and engaging
01:04 experience.
01:05 So this is the way to go.
01:07 The crisis is there, but crisis will be over.
01:10 And I'm sure we'll be doing much better
01:13 than we are doing earlier.
01:15 So we are honored to be here and looking forward to the winners
01:20 and having a conversation with them.
01:23 Thank you very much.
