00:06 Today, I will tell you why you should or should not watch Kalank.

00:19 First, the merits of the film. This is from the Karan Johar Productions,

00:24 known for making extravagant movies. The movie also has a great star cast. It has Varun Dhawan

00:31 and Alia Bhatt, one of the hit pairs of Bollywood today, and also has Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri

00:37 Dixit, who are staging a comeback together after 20 years. This is a love story set in the backdrop

00:44 of partition era, which makes for a gripping story. Now, the minuses for the film. First of all,

00:52 despite its star cast, its story is dried, hackneyed, and offers nothing new. All the stars,

01:01 right from Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt to Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit, they fail to rise above

01:07 the mediocre script. What has disappointed me that there is a glaring lack of chemistry between

01:12 Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt, who were terrific in all their three previous films together.

01:18 This film is also badly edited. It's 168 minutes long in an era when people are used to watching

01:26 two-hour movies. It would have done well to edit the movie by half an hour. At least two songs,

01:32 including one item songs, are redundant, and also a bullfight sequence of Varun Dhawan,

01:38 which has been shot amateurishly. This movie, of course, has great visuals,

01:43 but it doesn't make for great viewing. Unless you are fond of watching style over substance,

01:51 this movie is not for you. I will give it two stars.
