00:00 Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the first
00:04 edition of the Outlook Potion Forum and Awards. I thank the Honourable Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh,
00:11 Sri Bhupesh Bagelji, to kindly accept our invitation.
00:14 It is not often that a mainstream media group looks beyond what is more healthy,
00:23 a low carb or a low fat diet. Does red meat cause cancer? Will a glass of wine keep the doctors
00:30 away? The fact that we are daring to provoke a discussion on 200 million Indians, one third of
00:38 the India's world's top undernourished, who go to sleep hungry every day and do not read our
00:44 magazine, makes this event even more special for the Outlook group. We are grateful to the million
00:49 of our readers who have supported us through the years and we hope they join us in this journey.
00:54 India inherited poverty, hunger and famine as a legacy of the British Raj.
01:01 For successive decades after that, we came up with over 21 plans, programs and policies to
01:07 advocate hunger, anemia, malnutrition, disease and deaths. Just look at us. We have gone through
01:14 great transformation in every field. We have risen to become a global powerhouse, a software
01:19 giant, one of the world's best performing economies, a top military spender, a geopolitical
01:26 sweet shop. Yet millions of our children are too thin, too short, too weak and too hungry to think
01:33 beyond a feast full of rice. The drumbeat of shame started from 2007 when international bodies
01:39 started bringing out reports that showed that we are at the beset with some of our very fundamental
01:44 problems. Of the world's 820 million hungry people, 24% lives in India and 3 of our every
01:56 10 stunted children in the world and that the world's largest number of underweight children
02:00 lives in India. The cost of malnutrition is high. India faces a GDP loss of 11% every year.
02:08 We believe that the time is right. The moment of critical mass as the Prime Minister Modi
02:14 expressed unprecedented political commitment in the fight against malnutrition. With this
02:19 multisectoral synergistic people's movement, the Poshan Abhiyan is turning into a headline news.
02:25 The changes on the ground for the premise and promises and the potential we will analyze by
02:30 our speakers today and we have an amazing area of speakers from across the country and the world.
02:35 We are extremely privileged that Mr. Sean Baker, Director of Nutrition Bill and Melinda Gates
02:41 Foundation is with us to share his insight and perspective on our platform. Ladies and gentlemen,
02:48 last week Outlook editorial team went out to do a fieldwork and they captured some stories.
02:54 I am sharing with you one such video.
03:08 So,
03:21 so,
03:29 so,
03:36 so,
03:49 so,
04:01 so,
04:12 so,
04:23 these are very depressing visuals, but that also gives us enough reason to come together
04:38 and work harder and keep our hopes up. Thank you everyone. Thank you for coming.
