Seeking more information about periodization in running? I cover 4 specific areas of my periodization philosophy. Periodization for runners comes down to planning properly and not moving past steps. Overall running success comes from immense patience on the part of the athlete as well as consistent training.

Periodization for running is about thinking long-term, not short-term, knowing that great results come over extended periods of time. The 4 phases of the rundreamachieve periodization framework are base, strength, anaerobic and peak phase and in that order. The body needs time to adapt to the stress load you are placing on it. Anaerobic adaptations occur from allotting sufficient time between introductory phases and more specific stressors to the body.

The rest period is where supercompensation takes effect. The smart athlete knows the greatest results come from within the rest so JOGGING on easy days is essential. Below are some resources to help set you up for success.
