00:32Checking in with the USF head coach before the game.
00:35This is going to be a huge challenge to get this upset on the road.
00:38Not only is this one of the best quality opponents they have faced so far, it is a quality crowd.

00:45This crowd is ready to get after it.
00:47A very hostile environment.
00:49We will see how they handle it and I will keep them posted how it's going down here on the

01:16Coming out with it, it's Anderson.
01:18Really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19.
01:24The Roadrunners' offense will go on the attack first.
01:28And onto the field comes Will Henderson.
01:31He's one of the top runners in the sport and certainly they'll go to him early and often.
01:35Well, this team's college football playoff hopes lie on this running back's ability to show up week in, week out.
01:42It's one thing to do it against subpar competition.
01:44We've seen that this year.
01:46But this is the real challenge now.
01:48At this point of the season, going up against one of the best run defenses in the country that's going
01:52to be honed in on stopping him.
01:54Can this guy answer the bell?
01:57Get another win.
01:58This is a team peaking.
01:59Put a couple of wins together now back to back.
02:01But if they win this one and this guy has a big game, that is a big statement.

02:08He gets it up across the 20 to the 22 before he's pushed out of bounds.
02:13Didn't take long to need a clutch play on the opening drive.

02:23Unloads to the wideout.

02:28Across midfield and out of bounds at the 49.

02:33And it's the Roadrunners with the first and ten.
02:40He wants to throw it again.
02:45Can't hold on in the face of the contact.

02:49That's already the third target this guy has had on the opening drive of the game.
02:53He is a big factor for their success throwing the football.
02:57He's got to win the matchups.
02:58Even though that one goes incomplete, they've got to keep throwing him the ball.

03:07Out wide left.
03:08It's Wilson.
03:10They ripped off a big one and they get it down to 27.
03:15Well, you're seeing this offense aggressive here right out of the gate.
03:18I don't even know if they're planning on running the football the rest of this game.
03:21The way they're throwing it right now.
03:22I mean, they're just throwing caution to the wind.
03:24And David, we know it.
03:25They've got a lot of confidence in their skill players throwing the ball.
03:29And right now, that's been very apparent hurt.
03:31Boy, now you knocked me back on my heels a little bit.
03:33Now I'm like, oh, crud.
03:34Is this their game plan?
03:35Is this going to be pass, pass, pass?
03:36So defensively, I'm thinking, how do I make my subs?
03:39Do I go dime?
03:40Do I go nickel?
03:41Right?
03:41Like, they're definitely pass happy.
03:43But the first...
03:44Caught, and he's got room.
03:45Now the connection takes it to the 11.
03:52And the roadrunners come to the line with a fresh set of downs
03:55thanks to that last connection in the passing game.
04:01The run inside.
04:02It's Henderson.
04:04Tackled behind the line and he'll lose one on the play.
04:08Going to work in the red zone,
04:09and they can't pick up the first down
04:11without getting it into the end zone.
04:15Motion from the wide receiver.
04:19Right back to it.
04:21Got a little grass.
04:23And he'll step into the end zone.
04:26Touchdown, roadrunners.
04:29And that's about as good as you can start
04:31if you're an offense in a game, guys.
04:33I know that took a bunch of plays,
04:34but they were able to execute.
04:35They were able to make the plays
04:37when they presented themselves.
04:39And they just sort of marched the ball down the field.
04:43Different guys touched it.
04:44It ends up being a touchdown.
04:46And that is a great start for this offense.
04:55Getting ready for the extra point
04:56after the first score of the game.
05:02And the extra point is good,
05:03and it's 7-0.
05:05They put together an 81-yard drive,
05:08and the scoring play came on the 12-yard run.
05:17And he'll just take a knee,
05:19and this drive will start at the 25.
05:23The Bulls' offense takes the field for the first time in this game.
05:27And here comes Michael Van Buren.
05:29Everybody wants to make big plays,
05:31but he's got to take them when they're available
05:34and not force it.
05:36And I can just tell you, man,
05:37just by watching the tape of this,
05:39Jimmy, the quarterback spot,
05:40I don't like it.
05:41And I say that,
05:41and I don't like it for the defense.
05:43Because he's just got so much speed.
05:46He can put so much stress on a defense,
05:49and it's just one guy.
05:50Break one tackle,
05:51can take it to the house, Palmer.
05:52However, it's a rare combination
05:55what this guy can do.
05:56He can just take off in the blink
05:58and kill defense.
05:59Must be nice,
06:00because I have no idea what it feels like,
06:02but to be able to run that fast
06:04and stress a defense,
06:05that's got to feel pretty good.
06:07At least if you're on offense, right?
06:09Because not only do you have to focus
06:10on our running back,
06:11and not only do you have to focus
06:12on all of our weapons on the perimeter,
06:14because this guy can throw and hurt you as well,
06:16but you're right.
06:17If he makes you miss,
06:18and he gets in the second level.
06:21Intercepted,
06:21and the defense has set him up.
06:25Touchdown, Roadrunners!
06:26The defense takes matters into its own hands.
06:30And just like that early,
06:32this team is finding themselves
06:34in a pretty deep hole.
06:35Their defense gave up a touchdown
06:36on the opening drive,
06:37and now a critical pick six by the quarterback.
06:41You just gotta wonder,
06:42was he pressing a little bit
06:43based on how the opposing team's offense
06:46started the game?
06:47There's a lot of football left.
06:48They've got to be able to turn the page.
06:50This is going to be a big challenge
06:52for them, no doubt.
06:55And with the extra point,
06:57they push the lead out a little further.
07:09He'll start the return inside his spot.
07:12He'll be stopped short of the 20-yard line on the return.
07:15And they'll mark him as a 19.
07:19South Florida has it back,
07:20and the Bulls' offense will return to the field.
07:23They've gotten off to a sluggish start
07:25and need to put something together on this drive.
07:28Dropped immediately.
07:30He got nothing on first down.
07:33Stopping the run is about physicality.
07:35It's about, I'm bigger than you.
07:36I'm stronger than you up front.
07:38Really nice job by the defense.
07:40Showing their strength, bowing up, stuffing the run.
07:43Mind is tight end.
07:45Makes the catch, but goes no further,
07:46and it'll be a short pickup on that one.
07:49It's early in the game,
07:50and as offenses try to get their rhythm,
07:53these easy completions are very important
07:55because that's what helps you get your feet underneath you
07:57as an offense and as a unit.
07:59And hopefully, as this game goes on,
08:01they'll be able to rev up
08:02and get more aggressive damage shots.
08:05Can't hang on after the hit,
08:06and it'll be fourth down.
08:08The Bulls will try to pin them back with the punt.
08:13Able to get the first one of the day away,
08:15they did have to send him out three times
08:17in that victory last week.
08:19Gover's team was down there to corral him.
08:21They made the stop,
08:22and they'll mark it at the 39.
08:24The Roadrunner offense on its way out there

08:28They put two touchdowns on the board
08:30in the early going,
08:31and now right back to work.
08:33Well, it's plays like that
08:35that'll help this offense stay in rhythm all game long.
08:37If you can have that kind of success
08:39on first down running the football,
08:41it just opens up your entire playbook moving forward.

10:35This offense had a little extra time
10:37to think about it.

10:40At the end of the quarter, guys,
10:41it's UTSA holding the edge.
10:44They largely dominated this first quarter
10:46as indicated by the stats.
10:53This could be a pivotal moment in this game
10:56as we open the second period
10:58and they try to find a way to answer.
11:00They've moved it to the 25
11:02but now facing a third and long.
11:07Wide receiver going in motion.
11:11On third down,
11:13he'll try to pick it up through the air.
11:16And good coverage there
11:18to knock it away and deny the score.
11:21On that third down,
11:22they took a shot in the end zone,
11:24just couldn't connect.
11:25QB and receiver not on the same page
11:27and now it's decision time
11:28if you're the head coach on fourth.
11:30And now on fourth down,
11:32they'll try a field goal.
11:33And he'll need a little distance
11:35and accuracy.

11:47and you want to be aggressive
11:48but man, right down the middle,
11:50that obviously gives me some confidence

12:00He was hoping for something
12:01a little more dynamic
12:03that they get him on the ground
12:04at the 20.
12:06South Florida ready to send

12:10And it's on the guy behind center
12:12to get this offense going.
12:14They thought they'd be able
12:15to lean on their passing game
12:16but so far it has been
12:17a complete struggle.
12:19Turnover didn't help either.
12:20They've got to take care
12:21of the football.
12:23And this offense on first down,
12:24man, they go backwards.
12:25And they built a deficit
12:27and they just,
12:28they've been sluggish
12:29and they just need something
12:30to get going,
12:31to get started
12:32because they've kind of
12:34looked out of sorts
12:34and out of rhythm
12:35this whole game.
12:36One of the things you love
12:37about this running back
12:38is not only can he run
12:39between the tackles,
12:40but he's also a weapon
12:41in this offense
12:42catching the football.
12:43Facing a third down
12:45and short from the 26.
12:49Looking to throw it.
12:50Van Buren
12:51shoots it to the left.
12:53It's caught downfield.
12:55Finally corraled
12:56but not before.
12:57He picked up the first down.
13:00And the Bulls
13:01peeled off a huge chunk
13:02of yardage through the air
13:03and now back to the line.
13:05Leaves it with the back.
13:07Give him a pickup of two.
13:08Now second and eight.
13:11That's a really good job
13:12by the defense.
13:13Wrapping him up.
13:14Getting him on the ground.
13:15Take away that run game.
13:16Make him one dimensional.
13:17Put him in passing situations.
13:19Really good job by the defense.
13:20Still looking to his right.
13:24He'll pull it down.
13:25They'll force him out of bounds
13:27after a solid pickup
13:28on the play.
13:30Quarterbacks have a hard job.
13:31They've got to drop back
13:32and try to see the whole field
13:33and then see the rush
13:34coming to him.
13:35But you can tell
13:36he did a really good job
13:37scrambling outside the pocket,
13:39improvising,
13:40making a play with his feet
13:41and then getting the first down.
13:43And he's able to shed one tackle
13:45and gets a pretty good pickup.
13:48Coaches always harp
13:50about staying ahead of the chains
13:52and when you can run
13:52with that type of efficiency
13:54on first down,
13:55man,
13:55you are doing just that.
13:59Selling the fake.
14:02Makes the grab.
14:03Hit and brought down
14:04right at the line of scrimmage.
14:07And listen,
14:08I know that wasn't a huge gain.
14:10It was positive,
14:11but I like doing more of that
14:13in today's college football.
14:14I'm just going to try
14:15to give my playmakers a chance
14:16to do damage in space
14:18away from all the big boys inside.
14:21Down to the 26-yard line
14:24before they ride him out of bounds
14:25and this defense is on its heels.
14:28This offense has been sluggish
14:30to say the least,
14:31but finally they're on the move
14:33on first and 10.
14:34He's past the sticks.
14:36Nice pickup on the ground there
14:38and they'll move the sticks
14:39with the first down.
14:41And this defense, man,
14:42they've got to find some answers.
14:44They've been less physical
14:45than the offense.
14:46They've owned the line of scrimmage.
14:47They're running the football,
14:49putting a drive together.
14:50All right,
14:50now in the red zone,
14:52field shrinking.
14:53How do they handle this situation?
14:54Bring more bodies,
14:55be more physical,
14:56be more aggressive.

14:59and he did everything perfectly
15:02except catch the football.

15:07they can pick up a first
15:08without scoring.

15:12And they'll get him on the ground

15:16And I like the thought process

15:23and there are a lot of coaches
15:24that outthink themselves
15:25and they think,
15:25you know,
15:25we're going to throw the ball
15:26to set up the run instead
15:28because everybody on defense
15:29knows our guy
15:30is the focal point,
15:32but this offense
15:32is just keeping it simple.
15:33Let's just give our best player
15:35the football early in this game
15:36and let's just get him
15:37into a rhythm.
15:38I know it's early,
15:39but you're down by a lot of points.
15:40You've got to go for it

24:45there's more balance, so
24:46maybe that's a sight of
24:47things to come.
24:48Maybe they can get this
24:49thing going and get back
24:50in this football game.
24:52It's only a two-yard gain
24:53on first down there for the
24:55offense, but they want to
24:56keep pounding, and they
24:57want to keep getting this
24:58run going.
24:59They believe they can wear
25:00this defense down, and
25:01these two-yard gains, they
25:03think they're going to turn
25:03into explosive plays the
25:05longer this game goes on.
25:07And we need more of this
25:09from this defense, man.
25:10They have let this guy have
25:11too much time to throw the
25:13football.
25:13They haven't gotten that
25:14jersey dirty yet, haven't
25:16sacked him, but this is just
25:18as good as a sack.
25:19Getting to him, hitting him,
25:20letting him feel the
25:21physicality of this game, and
25:23not letting him feel
25:23comfortable.
25:25another incompletion on third
25:27down.
25:28They'll have to settle for a
25:29field goal attempt.
25:30This might be a little easier
25:32if it were straight on, but a
25:3343-yarder from the right
25:35hash.
25:37And it's right down the
25:38boulevard.
25:39That cuts into this deficit.

25:45going to say, go for it, be
25:46aggressive.
25:47Nice to have a guy you can
25:49depend on, and you know you're

27:13that one, not a lot of place to

27:18a better job getting some push
27:20and opening up some holes for
27:22this back.
27:24Perfect timing on the hit to keep
27:26him from making the grab and the
27:27defense forces a fourth down.
27:29The roadrunners will punt this one
27:31away.
27:32He'll try to really get into this
27:34one.
27:37Searching for space.
27:39And he's going to get it up to
27:40about the 29-yard line before he's
27:42brought down.
27:45The Bulls offense comes out ready
27:47to go to work.
27:48They're going to have to be more
27:50aggressive in this drive.
27:51You can't expect to win this one,

27:54No, especially when you're

27:56You've got to have a little more
27:56urgency and maybe a little more

28:06themselves, you've just simply got

28:23And that's going to be incomplete.

28:40And this offense just has to find
28:42a way to convert this third down
28:44or else they are really in trouble.

28:53there using his vision, finding
28:55some green grass and picking up
28:56that first down.
28:57This guy has a lot of ability.
28:59Not just running the ball,
29:00catching it too, but right now
29:01seems like he's really getting
29:03into a rhythm in this game.

29:09At the 20.
29:11And he'll take it to the house.
29:13He got loose.
29:15Touchdown Bulls.
29:20He'll try to attack on one more.
29:24And the PAT will draw them one point closer.

36:04in the fourth quarter.

36:06in their direction.
36:08Lining up to tack
36:09one more onto that lead.
36:15And with the extra point,

36:20They go 83 yards
36:22on the drive,
36:23and they cover
36:24the final 29 yards
36:26with that touchdown pass.

36:39is one this junior

36:41would prefer to forget.
36:42And I think it's fair
36:43to say that the corner
36:44and the rest of his buddies

36:46have won this battle
36:47keeping this.

36:49on the pitch.

36:52if it was luck
36:53or aggression
36:54or just a fortuitous balance,

36:56they've got the ball back.

40:14of most helpful things

40:17So they'll go for it

40:24I think most coaches

40:29And I like this offense
40:30because if I don't
40:31if I can't get one yard
40:32I don't deserve to win.
40:33They're physical
40:34lower their pads
40:35and they get the big
40:36fourth down conversion.

40:55and good
40:56as they draw
40:57just a touch closer.
