When they finally got the jar off, his entire head was green. Oreo had spent seven days with his head stuck in a cheese puff jar, unable to eat or drink. Dodo editor Tarang takes us through the incredible effort to find and rescue him, with even a drone operator joining the search. Once he was safe, foster mom Meredith spent seven months helping him get ready for his next chapter β€” finding a forever home.

00:00For an entire week, this stray dog wandered around the Texas wilderness with a cheeseball
00:03container stuck over his head. There was a green ring of algae around Oreo's neck.
00:08Just seeing that gives you an idea of how long he's been stuck in that jar.
00:12Now let's get back to the rescue. After seven days of searching,
00:15they now had minutes to spare to save this dog's life. With no food or water,
00:20time was running out. Oreo had been born outside the streets of Austin and spent his entire life
00:25avoiding people. So multiple rescuers from Jack-Jack's pack banded together to help track
00:29and eventually catch Oreo. But Oreo somehow kept getting away.
00:33They even brought in drones to help find him.
00:41Eventually, a paid professional darter was able to sedate him,
00:46allowing the team to remove the jar and take Oreo to safety.
00:55They needed to find a foster for Oreo fast, and that's when Meredith stepped in.
00:59I kind of found the story. I was doomscrolling, avoiding, right? That has gotten me into trouble
01:05with several dogs that I have fostered. Nobody was volunteering.
01:11There has to be some place for the dogs to go. And so it's like, shoot, me, I'll do it.
01:19Meredith spent the next seven months trying to get Oreo to warm up to her.
01:22For a dog whose main trigger is tight spaces, living inside of a home was definitely hard for him.
01:28I don't push any foster dogs. It's all on their time. He was still figuring out what a house was.
01:36Like, he had never been inside before.
01:38Little by little, he began realizing that Meredith's space and living inside of a home
01:42wasn't too terrible after all.
01:45Once he understood he was safe, everything changed.
01:49The first time he got super close to me, he jumped up on the couch with me.
01:55Trips in the car that Oreo once dreaded now was his favorite thing because that meant hiking.
02:01He's a good boy. He's always looking out. Okay, bud.
02:04He's still working towards being ready for adoption,
02:06and his future family will need to understand that trust happens on Oreo's timeline.
02:10His home would be someplace without kids. He's fun. He's easygoing. He's very loyal.
02:17He is non-reactive to dogs when we go on walks.
02:20Because you're still, oh, okay. Okay.
02:24But according to Meredith, once he loves you, he loves hard.
02:27There is a perfect home out there for him.
02:30And funny enough, after everything he had been through, cheese is his favorite treat.
02:41You can tell me if he loves you, cheese is his favorite treat.
02:43How's he doing it?
02:43If you're done.
02:43Or if he likes to be one or two, it can be me,
02:43or he wouldn't even walk me at that same time.
02:43When I'm just telling him,
02:43the small tree between my feet wereεΊ§ed,
02:43I'm bringing Drake and man up there for you on boots at home for beckinant.
02:44He's the name for some of us.
02:44so much action. When
