00:00I didn't know how invested I was going to get in it emotionally.
00:05I have a model train system that weaves its way through my front yard.
00:11Nick first noticed the baby after he spotted her mother flying beneath a metal bridge in his front yard.
00:18I noticed this tiny, tiny bird the size of a bottle cap on the ground that has fallen out of
00:25its nest.
00:25I made the decision to cease operations of the railroad until this saga had completed.
00:32Nick contacted the Pasadena Humane Society who instructed him on how to help.
00:36I never gave it like sugar water because it could be dangerous.
00:41So that's why in this little bottle cap, I just put water.
00:44First things first, he had to make a temporary nest for her.
00:48I was able to find where the actual nest was.
00:52I couldn't get up there safely.
00:57I've never done anything like this before.
01:00The mother kept coming back to feed the baby hummingbird.
01:04The only problem is when Nick moved the baby a few feet off the ground, her mom couldn't find her.
01:09So Nick started moving the nest a foot at a time.
01:15I was trying to not intervene too much.
01:19I finally got it to where it was up at the top of this pole and the mother knew it
01:24was there.
01:25For several days, she would come and feed it.
01:28Eventually, he got the baby seven feet off the ground, away from all the animals passing through his yard.
01:33Nick spent the entire week basically living in his porch.
01:35Every morning, the baby was still there, and every day, her mom would come back to feed her.
01:40And little by little, Nick watched her grow stronger.
01:42By day five or six, it would start flapping its wings.
01:48And then after nearly a week, she finally took off.
02:00It was overwhelming.
02:01I didn't expect it to feel as emotionally powerful as it did.
02:09Eventually, she disappeared up into the trees.
02:11Once he knew she made it up to the trees safely, Nick could finally turn his intention back to his
02:16trains.
02:16It was ridiculously close to an hour and he saw a
02:17and once Katie ran out of place that started creating his years.
02:17Next thing that might change and you may think that I those guys arrive
02:20for a couple years and me think that they can.
