Sprinkles had never even stepped foot inside a home before. Sprinkles was one of 17 dogs Audray rescued from a hoarding situation, and everything about life in a home was completely new to him. Dodo editor Monica shares how his foster mom Sam slowly showed this terrified little pittie what it meant to feel safe, play and finally come out of hiding.

00:00Before you scroll past Sprinkles, you need to know how hard he's worked to feel safe.
00:07Seven months ago, Audrey rescued him and 17 other dogs from a pit bull hoarding case.
00:13Sprinkles and his three brothers had been kept in a tiny box
00:16isolated from everything a dog should be able to experience.
00:23We've been dreaming up this day for a few months now.
00:26They were fighting over food and Sprinkles got hurt.
00:30I mean, it's hard to even imagine what life would have been like for them in there.
00:34When Audrey first approached him, he was so scared, he didn't even look at her.
00:39But she knew that there was a sweet little dog in there
00:42and that he just needed someone to give him a chance.
00:49So once he was safe, Sprinkles went to live with his foster mom, Sam.
00:56I've been a consistent and committed foster with this rescue organization.
01:02I'm always drawn to foster the more difficult cases.
01:06Because who else is going to do it?
01:08For the past seven months, Sam has basically been showing Sprinkles how to be a dog.
01:13He was entirely shut down and resisted looking at me.
01:18He'd never been indoors before, so walking through the house was difficult for him.
01:22Come on, you can do it.
01:24Come on, you got it.
01:26Let's go.
01:27Oh, no, no, no, no.
01:28Okay, you go first.
01:29You go first.
01:30Come on.
01:32Oh, that's such a good boy.
01:34He didn't go outside for the first four days of living with me because he was so frightened.
01:38I may end up having to pick him up and take him outside.
01:42Beneath all that fear is a dog who so badly wants to trust and to be loved.
01:47You're being so brave right now.
01:49Oh, you're going to go in your crate now?
01:51Okay.
01:52Okay.
01:53So like right now, I'm going to try to go up to him.
01:55He's going to completely run away from me.
02:00It's okay.
02:02Sometimes my eyes would have to be entirely closed or I would just pretend to be distracted on my phone.
02:07As unnatural as it felt, that's what he needed from me.
02:10She gave him his very first bath.
02:12Great.
02:14This would be a really cinematic moment if you gave him a kiss.
02:18His first toy.
02:24Look who decided to come out here.
02:27He walked through the house all by himself.
02:29The first time Sprinkles left his room to hang out with me and my other dogs in the living room,
02:34it felt like a major win.
02:38And then he made his first friend and then another.
02:43And then eventually came his first cuddle.
02:49I mean, look at him.
02:51This might be our favorite first too.
02:53The thing about a dog this scared is that you can't rush him.
02:56You need to meet him exactly where he is and be there to support wherever it's possible.
03:03Sprinkles can be a very goofy and playful dog once he feels safe and is able to decompress.
03:09Sprinkles would thrive in a home that is calm, patient, and understanding of how much of his past he carries
03:15with him.
03:16Audrey's rescue is currently accepting adoption applications.
03:20Sam has already been there for so many of Sprinkles first,
03:23but now he needs someone who's willing to be there for all the ones to come.
03:32He wants to target all over the top.
03:33Tom, you can't put the dragon on the floor, but now he wants to master his ready for him.
03:34We want his freedom.
