Summer bird photography at Lake Kerkini delivers a close look at the white pelican colony at the mouth of the Strimonas River, where thousands of pelicans, cormorants and glossy ibis catch the early morning light. The day begins with a 5am boat trip into the lake delta, followed by three hours in a hide surrounded by heat, humidity and far too many mosquitoes, but the views make every minute worthwhile.

From the embankment, the scene opens out across the delta as the sun rises behind the birds and the pelicans gather in huge numbers on the water. The camera lingers on the backlit birds, the shoreline and the quiet movement of the boat, creating a calm wildlife travel diary with a strong sense of place. It is a simple but memorable field session for anyone who enjoys nature photography, birdwatching and outdoor adventure.

Ideal for viewers searching for Lake Kerkini wildlife, white pelican photography, birding in Greece, nature vlog, wildlife photography vlog, and early morning bird hide footage. This is also a good watch for fans of relaxing nature scenes, travel wildlife content, and bird photography from the Strimonas River delta.

00:41Good morning. I've come out to the Lake Delta, to the pelican colony. There are thousands
00:52upon thousands of white pelicans, cormorants, Dalmatian pelicans.
00:59And they're all just basking in the early morning light and it is absolutely stunning.
01:16It is incredibly stiff, isn't it? Incredibly hot. Covered in my scissors.
01:44But it's all worth it. Just for this amazing year.
02:04Mosquitoes are making it very difficult for me to do steady pans. I'm going to cover myself
02:20again now. Because the mosquitoes are just unbearable. So I'll catch up with you in a little bit.
02:28I don't know that I'm going to be able to talk that much. Because like I said, uncovering
02:33for the mosquitoes to do pieces to camera becomes really uncomfortable. So I'll catch up with
02:43you in a little while. Thanks, bye.
03:04I'm not sure if I explained basically where exactly I am. So there's a river called the Strimonas River, which
03:14flows out into the lake.
03:17And at the point where it sort of comes out into the lake and spreads out. That's what we call
03:23here the Delta.
03:24And I'm at the mouth of that river on one of the embankments. And so on the right hand side
03:34where I am is the majority of the pelicans and the cormorants.
03:39And on the opposite side are more pelicans, but a lot further away. And just along the shoreline, along there,
03:48are the hundreds of glossy ibids just grazing in the foraging in the shallows.
03:58And the sun is rising just behind them. And it looks just beautiful.
04:20Even though it's barely six o'clock in the morning, it's still incredibly hot and incredibly humid, but I'm going
04:28to cover up hands, full long-sleeved shirt, etc.
04:33long trousers, welly boots, just to avoid as much as possible getting bitten by the mosquitoes.
04:40I am getting bitten and I'm covered in deep as well, but even so, I'm still getting bitten.
04:49But part of the course when you're doing this kind of, it's all worth it though, because the view is
04:54just so amazing.
05:03Alright.
05:09Bye bye.
05:10Bye bye!
05:11Bye bye.
06:00I can see the boat coming behind the pelicans and I'm just awaiting my rescue now.
06:10I don't know if it's shot from this answer as well because it looks quite nice now.
06:15Likely.
06:15I can see the boat coming behind the pelicans.
06:45I'm going to see the boat coming behind the pelicans.
