Snowy bird photography in the Pindos Mountains turns a forced hotel afternoon into a quiet search for winter wildlife around the village of Monodendri. After the roads began closing on the way back from the Stone Bridges at Kipi, the photographer swapped landscapes for a walk with a 500mm lens, hoping to find small birds among the snow-covered trees and branches.

The walk leads down from the village to a sheltered valley where fresh snow softens the scene and falling flakes add to the atmosphere. Along the way, a lesser spotted woodpecker, long-tailed tit, and nuthatch are photographed before the pace slows into patient birdwatching in the cold mountain air. When no more birds appear after about half an hour, the freezing feet make the next decision easy: keep walking or head back to the hotel and warm up.

This is a calm winter nature outing, part bird photography, part mountain walk, and part travel diary from northern Greece. It will appeal to viewers who enjoy wildlife photography, birdwatching in snow, outdoor nature footage, and quiet scenic moments in the Pindos Mountains.

00:00so I made it back to the village okay and I really didn't fancy spending the
00:06rest of the afternoon stuck inside at the hotel so I've put the big lens on
00:16the camera and I'm taking a walk just down from the village to see if I can
00:24spot any little birds
01:16So I've come down the road from the village a little day and I've stopped at this point
01:21because there's this little valley and I'm actually at the same level as a lot of the
01:27treetops and branches are all covered with fresh snow
01:35I'm just waiting now for some more little birds to come along so far I've been able
01:39to photograph a lesser spotted woodpecker a long tail tip and a nut hatch
01:46as well so I'm just waiting to see if anything else turns up because it's rather lovely with
01:54the snow falling now and the trees looking fantastic
01:58I'm just waiting to see if I can see if I can see if I can see if I can
02:03see if I can see
02:05Cause on the hill I met Santiago
02:19Yeah, you can need to see if I can see if I can see that that is so bad
03:12So after waiting at that spot for about half an hour, no other little birds came along and my feet
03:20started freezing standing on the snow. So I decided to carry on walking for a little bit and see if
03:28I can find another spot.
03:32But I think it'll soon be time to go back to the hotel and warm up again.
