00:09I can hear something in this tree, it's creaking away, I think it's the greatest spotted woodpecker
00:30Just give it a few minutes, yep, and I'm gone again.
00:40So one of his parents came back ever so briefly again and managed to get some video of it,
00:45but there's this annoying little stick which is right in front of the opening,
00:51so I'm not getting the clearer shots and then try and get a better angle.
00:56If I go round the other side there I'll be shooting into the sun and I'm worried so we'll see,
01:04I'll give it a go.
01:07As you can probably hear the chick is just squeaking away still, even though he's had two feeds since I've
01:14been here.
01:18So I've just moved around slightly to see if this will give me a better shot from this angle.
01:26And we'll just wait for one of the parents to come back.
01:31Let's eat.
01:57That's one hungry little chick right there.
02:01And I think I managed to catch a couple of shots as well as he poked his head out of
02:05the little hole because his parent was feeding him.
02:10So that's a fantastic start to his day and lovely to see. Wonderful. Catch up with you in a bit.
02:27So unfortunately things haven't gone quite to plan on this trip to Greece.
02:33No sooner had I got here I developed car problems.
02:38So I've lost two days out of the poor that I had planned to be here at Katkini without my
02:45car.
02:47Which means I have today and half of tomorrow before I have to leave to try and get some pictures
02:58and video.
03:01But anyway to this morning was a good start at least for the woodpecker so that's something.
03:08And I'm gonna make my way down to the lake right now to see if I can find some bee
03:18eaters to photograph.
03:46I think I've just spotted something.
03:49Something that's really quite exciting which is an osprey.
03:55Which is really rare to see here and even harder to photograph.
04:02But he's just perched up on the tree way.
04:07Let's see if I can get a shot of him at least.
04:13He's right against the sun.
04:30Let's see if I can get some video out of him as well.
04:32Let's see if I can get a shot of him.
04:37Let's see if I can get a shot of him at least.
04:41Let's see if I can get a shot of him.
04:42Oh I know that's a good time.
04:43He's just blown off.
04:51Oh, it's sliding right into the sand.
05:06Fantastic, well that was amazing, unfortunately I didn't manage to get any video of them but
05:11I've got a couple of pictures which I'll show you right now.
05:29When I jumped out the car to see where he was headed I also got some pictures of a night
05:33heron, so that's pretty cool too.
05:45So I'm going to carry on down here.
05:48I haven't seen many bee eaters, actually there's a few, but I'll be shooting into the sun again.
05:56So I'm going to try and go further down here and see if I can find a spot for the
06:00bee eaters
06:02and try and get some pictures of them too.
06:05So that was fab.
06:08Okay, catch up with you in a bit.
06:19So I've found some bee eaters, I've just perched on the tree over here, it's a little bit back
06:27lit because I'm shooting right into the sun.
06:32It's stunning nonetheless, they're such beautiful little bees.
06:46I think I'm going to get out of the car and go to the bottom of the embankment here and
06:53walk along and see if I can get closer without spooking them too much.
07:00So bear with me and I'll be back to the end a bit.
07:04See if I can get a little bit closer to where they're flying around.
07:26Little bit of advice if you ever do come to Lake Erkine or anywhere like Lake Erkine, this
07:32time of year we need to bring lots of mosquito repellent.
07:37So I've just repositioned myself.
07:42In doing so unfortunately I scared them away.
07:47But I'm hoping if I sit quietly enough, for long enough, that they will come back and this
07:54angle should give me a better shot should they decide to come back.
07:58So I'll hang around here for a little bit and see what happens.
08:02Hopefully they'll return.
08:03The next we're in.
08:05We'll return to Lake Erkine.
08:08We'll return to Lake Erkine.
08:14We'll return to Lake Erkine.
08:15I'll be able to sleep at Lake Erkine.
08:15Let's see if we have a little bit of water.
08:17If you've managed to get from here.
08:29We'll return to Lake Erkine.
08:56So I spent quite a while trying to photograph the
09:01bee eaters up here on the eastern mountain. I could spend a couple of hours more because
09:08it's just so enjoyable. But they have just let out the buffaloes from the farm just behind me.
09:17So I'm going to make a move before I get trampled on. As you can see there's behind me there.
09:23There's quite a few buffaloes just coming up now. Time to make a move I think.
09:35So I'm leaving the bee eaters now. I think I managed to get a few decent shots but I could
09:44have stayed
09:44there even longer had it not been for the fact that the buffaloes came out of their farm. As you
09:50will see here. I decided that a better option to make a move and see what else I might see
10:01today.
10:03I found a purple heron.
10:07He's really far away though. I'm scared that if I go down
10:14he's going to fly off. He's just not going to stay.
10:47I've got him in front of me now. He's quite far away and I can't get down to the water's
10:53edge anyway.
10:55So I'm going to as well just try and record some of him from up here. There won't be award
11:01-winning
11:01shots but um it's a stunning stunning bird. So I'd be worth it anyway just for the sighting.
11:14In fact there's two of them. The other one is so well camouflaged you can barely see any.
11:53I think I got about as good as I was going to get of the herons, the purple herons.
11:57So what I thought I might do is go back around to the other side of the road and see
12:07how
12:10the pendulum tends to do what I found last time I was here. So quick drive around the lake and
12:19I'll see you there.
12:25So I've come down to the nest, the pangeline tit nest that I photographed last time around
12:34and I'm very pleased to say that there's now a second nest on the same tree. So he's been a
12:40very busy boy.
12:43They're looking really quiet at the minute, no movement at all. So I'm guessing they're out foraging.
12:52Hopefully he's found a female to put in each of them. So I'm just going to hang hang on here
12:58for a
12:59little while and see if one or both comes back.
13:05So the good news is that the second nest is occupied for sure.
13:12One of the birds has come back and forwards a couple of times.
13:17The other one there's been no movement on it at all. So I don't know what's happening.
13:22It's good to know at least one of the nests is being used and we'll hopefully soon have chicks.
13:29So I think that's about brings me to the end of my day. And I hope you've enjoyed watching this
13:36video
13:36such as it is. I've got a few hours tomorrow morning before I have to leave. So hopefully I'll be
13:44able
13:44to do something with those hours and maybe even make another video for me. So yeah,
13:51hope you've enjoyed it. Thanks again for watching and I'll see you next time.
14:20Bye.
