00:26I've come down to Kerkini Harbour. It's about midday now, so the sun is at its highest, and it's quite
00:34harsh light.
00:36So I decided to come down to the harbour and set myself up on one of the boats.
00:42This one here belongs to the hotel that I'm staying in.
00:45And opposite me, I found an old branch and set it up over the water.
00:56Oh, there's a confusion right there. That's exactly what I was hoping for.
01:01There was one.
01:18And that's exactly what I was hoping would happen.
01:20And that's exactly what I was hoping would happen.
01:35So, Joaquin Fisher came and has perched exactly on the stick that I had hoped he would.
01:45I set up two sticks. I have one on that side, one on this side.
01:49And he's done exactly that.
01:52It's a bit difficult to keep a steady shot because I'm actually on the boat.
02:07He's gone.
02:15So that was fantastic. Exactly what I was hoping for.
02:21And he's gone.
02:22And he's gone the other way now. Hopefully he'll be back then.
02:26So yeah, so that's what I was doing.
02:29There he is again.
02:31This time he's gone.
02:32This time he's not on the branch I set up.
02:33He's on a rock.
02:37But he looks amazing with the light.
02:40The sun right behind us.
02:43And he's perfectly lit.

03:02Okay so the plan is working.
03:05I'll just hang out here for a while and see if I can get any better shots.
03:11and hopefully we'll get some shots of him actually fishing as well so back in a while
03:24okay so it's been about half an hour since the little kingfisher turned up surprisingly like
03:30that i wasn't expecting him to turn up so quickly after i had set myself up
03:37and he hasn't been back since but i'm still hoping that he will
03:40because they make for trials up and down all the time but in the meantime just sitting still here in
03:48the harbor hidden on the boat i've managed to photograph a good in beautifully reflected water
03:58pygmy cormorant and crested green
04:04so it just goes to show you just sitting still in a place quietly
04:09and opportunities present themselves you don't have to run around
04:16just sitting quietly in the spot and let the birds come to you
04:22i've also heard around the boats here what i think is an otter and i do know that they do
04:31live in this
04:31harbor or at least they they frequently visit this harbor so what i did was i heard sneezing that
04:41sounded like it was an otter so i've quickly set up my second camera with a 70 to 200 just
04:49in case it
04:50should make an appearance that i'm ready for it because this would be way overpowered if it turns
04:56up and he's quite close so he always pays to be prepared in these situations
05:06so i'll give it a little bit more time and see what else turns up
05:32and just flew off i didn't see where to
05:35oh he's live again
05:38i just dived and got a fish
05:49i'm waiting to see if he spots something else in the water
05:54and try and capture in the image of him diving
06:04and we've got a lovely little fish
06:08and hopefully that'll come out
06:16and another one wow it's doing really well at that spot
06:23so i've set the camera up at iso 640 and i'm shooting at four thousandth of a second with f5
06:31.6
06:35which hopefully will be enough to freeze the action
06:43when he burns like he just did again successfully
06:49i've lost count is that four or five fish now he's caught
06:57this is just so cool
07:02let's try and get some video footage of it

07:16it's just staying on the same little rock there
07:18i think there must be a little school fish
07:20okay so it's on the other stick
07:27let's see if we can get shots now with a different background
07:53and he just sift all the way around to the other side of the harbor how cool was that that
07:59was so cool
08:03wow that was amazing i'm really hopeful that we got some nice images of that
08:10so far we've had quite a few varieties of birds
08:13there we've had some great galaxies to turn out
08:14and have different birds with us and turn out
08:20including these rada loud black headed elas
08:25which during the winter time don't have a black head
08:34cool that's a nice bunch of images i think
08:37So I'll process those later and hopefully I'll be showing you in just a second what I managed to capture.
08:47There's a great white egret has just turned up but it's not in a very good position.
08:55It's quite far away as well.
08:58So with any luck he'll come a little bit closer and have a fish as well.

09:19Another stunning bird.
09:50Little Otter just turned up under the boat.

10:01Okay, the little Otter is just between the boats.
10:06If he does I'll try and get a better shot of him.
10:12I was right, I did hear Otter before.

10:25I'm just hoping he comes back over this side.
10:28I think he's over the side of that boat.
10:32I can see the bubbles coming out from under the boat.
10:35So he's definitely down there.

11:07And this time he has perched on the little stick that I put down.

11:22And he's gone again.

11:35Okay, the Otter is still in there.
11:40There's a boat coming in.
11:42Some tourists.
11:47Which quite possibly could scare him off.

11:50We'll flush him out.
11:56Or he'll just stay in.
12:04He's underneath us.
12:25So the boatman has just come in and he's asking me, is the, is the, is the, he saw me
12:29looking.
12:32And I said, yeah, but I can't tell which side.
12:38The thing is, they can swim so far under the water anyway.
12:45So we'll see.
12:47So I think that's put an end to any chances of photographing this little guy.
12:55I can't see him anywhere around.
12:59I can't see the bubbles.
13:02And I can't hear any splashing.
13:04So he's probably dived deep and gone beyond where he's out of danger.

13:14So the hotel's gone.
13:16The tourists have come in.
13:17And parked next to me.

14:07Managed to get really, really lovely pictures of the kingfisher.
14:12And some other water birds.
14:14The crested grebe.
14:17The pygmy cormorant.
14:19The great white heron.
14:21Uh, a coot as well.
14:24And we even had a surprise from a notta.
14:26So that was brilliant.
14:28And I've got to be heavy with that.
