00:00happy friday ray hi everyone happy friday um how's everybody doing we're doing well here uh
00:08wiggy is uh dressed up for halloween as a mime and so you may not uh hear much from him
00:13um but
00:15um so listen last night was rough uh tuesday night it's the defending champ so okay um but
00:23marco stern did say that the effort was bad last night for the first 40 minutes what what's your
00:29level of concern this morning on back-to-back road losses there's no concern it's just that um you
00:38know last night was probably with the ottawa game their two worst games of the year um i think what's
00:46disappointing is you play carolina on tuesday night and it's a great measuring stick for you know for
00:54the whole team but for the young guys to see what it's going to take and what you're going to
00:58be up
00:59against when it comes to the the best teams in the league and uh how much pressure you're under
01:06all the time when you play team against carolina and a great reminder to the veterans and what it's
01:11going to take to really uh you know get somewhere this year and then you go into st louis and
01:17kind
01:17of play like that that was very surprising to me but um you know it's it was good to to
01:24have that
01:25test against carolina and to kind of just be uh you know to know what it's going to take to
01:30uh what
01:31level you're enough to play at because carolina is is a crazy team they give you no time no space
01:37and it's not it's not in spurts the whole game long you have you know you have no time so
01:43puck
01:44management's been a problem i think all year long for them but it really showed up in that game and
01:49again last night so they found ways to win regardless of the puck management i think that's
01:55been talked about pretty much uh all year on on giveaways and and how they're not coming out
02:00cleaner their zone and that kind of stuff but uh last couple of games it wasn't pretty that way
02:06ray speaking of the veterans charlie mcavoy uh had a career high of assists last week now take out
02:13the six game suspension since then has he showed you enough to prove that he is the number one
02:19defenseman or are you still waiting for for a bit more no i think charlie's obviously the number one
02:27and and uh you know very important to the bruins not only you know what he could do offensively but
02:33how he's dependable and strong and and physical on uh the defensive side of the puck so i'm not worried
02:40about charlie charlie is going to be fine i think uh last year uh he had a great year um
02:47and and you
02:48know what he went through last year as well with uh some of those injuries especially the mouth and
02:52the teeth and all that kind of stuff playing through that stuff and putting the numbers he did last year
02:57i'm not worried about charlie he's uh he's a horse back there and uh he'll be fine right i've always
03:04kind of wondered this you know coming from the world of football like every game is so important
03:09because you only get you know when i played it was 16 now it's only 17 but when you have
03:13so many
03:14games and like whether it's hockey the nba or even baseball how do guys or do guys have some of
03:21those
03:22games where they're just like not maybe not giving it their all but they just kind of don't feel like
03:27whatever reason it is maybe just don't have it that night and go all right it's only one game
03:32we'll be fine it's one out of 84 now is that something that players actually go through and
03:38you know in the nhl for sure i mean you know now the schedule is 84 games it was 82
03:45for the longest
03:46time and there's there there's i won't see many nights but you know the percentage of times that
03:55you you go out on the ice and you're like oh my god i feel amazing tonight uh you know
04:02i i wouldn't
04:03say it's 60 percent of the time so the battle is when you're not feeling your best and you know
04:09that
04:10you know the legs may not be there 100 percent that night you got to find ways to kind of
04:16play
04:16through that and and still to be effective and go out and play your game um you know it's a
04:22it's a
04:23grueling schedule the nhl and and how physical the game is and you know sometimes you're playing four
04:29games in six nights that is that is crazy i mean and and three and four so that that adds
04:37up and
04:37sometimes uh you know a lot of times you're not feeling your best out there but i think the true
04:42professionals and the guys that are consistent they find a way mentally to kind of get through that
04:47and um you know so the bros have been pretty busy here and and you know eight of their games
04:53have
04:53been on the road they've had a lot of travel so far that that plays into it as well um
04:59but then
04:59you know you look at what's coming up for them they've got 12 of the next 14 games at home
05:05and
05:05they've been a great road team uh so far this year but last year they might have been one of
05:10the best
05:10teams at home and they love those saturday afternoons games uh that's coming up this week
05:15you know against chicago so i think they're in good shape they're you know they're they're second in
05:21their in their uh division but if you look at the uh all those teams it's bunched up everybody's
05:28gotten off to a really good start and it's going to be a grind all year but uh short answer
05:34is
05:34you know yes a lot not a lot of nights but there's there's a few nights that you do not
05:41you don't you
05:42do not feel it but still you can't cave in to that that thought or that feeling you've got to
05:47find a
05:47way to battle through it what ray is that when you talk about that grind and and the schedule is
05:53that
05:53a factor when it comes to a night like last night where the the penalty penalty kill is struggling
06:01uh yeah the pk's been you know kind of off and on this year it's and special teams are so
06:08important
06:08um yeah i mean last night they just did not look sharp but bill um you're going into st louis
06:17after
06:17playing carolina and you're a better team than st louis uh you you got to play a better game than
06:23that what you showed last night ray charlie checking up taking over for jeremy does that do
06:28anything for an organization does that change anything a front office switch like that
06:34no charlie's been doing you know pretty much that job uh you know he's been the face of the
06:41bruins for what is it 20 years now probably yeah if not more so i mean nothing changes for him
06:48i think
06:49other than um with the other owners and the board of governors and all that kind of stuff that's
06:55probably going to take more not not much more of his time but he's going to have to be involved
07:01in
07:01all those things that comes with that position right i would know i always go back to my my playing
07:07days i i and greg and i we always have this conversation where i feel like some of the
07:11players now in the nf nfl might not you know study as much as we as we used to when
07:18i believe when i
07:19played they're just not as smart in my opinion when you watch this game and you see these guys do
07:26you
07:26look and go in your prime like okay i could play with these guys or has the game changed so
07:33much in
07:33your opinion that you might look and go all right i'd have to adapt in this way how do you
07:38look at
07:38today's game versus when you played i think all sports you could look at you know i've been retired
07:4725 years obviously the progression of the game and everything that comes with it uh and all the
07:53innovations of training and everything and information and uh preparation and training and you know how you
08:01weed and and everything that comes with all that stuff just keeps getting better and better but
08:06yes i could still play in this league uh wiggy uh i think uh you know it it would have
08:13been so much
08:13fun to play without a red line and to play with how they call the game now you know back
08:19in the day
08:19there's so much clutching grabbing holding and all that kind of stuff not that i was not doing it myself
08:26but offensively i think uh it would have been a lot of fun to play uh in today's game defensively
08:32i've got to say it's a lot harder to play because you got to have perfect position you got to
08:37be a
08:37very good skater uh to play uh defense now as a defenseman uh but that was not a problem for
08:43me
08:44how'd you do in the tournament last week
08:49uh skated three games we won all three of them i thought you might have been talking about golf
08:54tournaments because i was playing in one i'm in florida now so i was playing in a uh big tournament
08:58yesterday that the fredys are involved with they have a big als foundation tournament here that was
09:04a big successful event and uh so there's two families that are involved here in this big tournament
09:10with uh linberg that lost their daughter of cancer and then the fredys obviously with pete
09:15passing of als they teamed up together and have this amazing event that happened yesterday so
09:20um but the hockey was good i survived uh three games in one day last friday so uh all good
09:27all
09:28right at 65 years old and i hear somebody's turning something soon so yeah um 60 it's not that bad
09:34i don't know it's kind of depressing though is it not right it's not no no no glass half full
09:41buddy
09:41come on i mean i won't say of what but
09:49it seems like just just yesterday i was a spry 25 year old looking looking at the world with uh
09:57wide
09:58open eyes and and and endless possibilities both of us both of us remember those days and song is just
10:06you and i skating kind of pretty much our by ourselves and the song is rink and yeah i could
10:12still skate and you could never skate all right uh this enough of this uh ray enjoy the golf enjoy
10:23florida and we will look forward to talking to you again next week thanks guys have a good one
