00:00So the World Series champion, Milwaukee Brewers.
00:02Pat, you like the sound of that?
00:04That sounds great.
00:05Sounds great.
00:05Really grateful.
00:07Yep.
00:07Well, congrats to your whole family.
00:09We'll get started.
00:09Who has the first question?
00:11We'll start with Ron.
00:13At this moment, does all your previous lives in Claremont and Eugene and Tri-Cities just
00:22seem like a weird path that took a long time to get you here?
00:26Yeah, you know, again, I just try to look forward.
00:30I'm really thankful for everything I've experienced, and I think all those experiences help us.
00:35But I'm just thinking about 2026 and the group of guys that made the commitment, you know,
00:42as boss would say, to be the last man standing, you know.
00:45And that's what I focus on right now.
00:49They went after it.
00:50They were on common mindset.
00:52They cared about each other.
00:53They set standards.
00:54They were undaunted when things weren't going well, like last night.
00:58Undaunted.
00:59Came back today and we're focused.
01:00What do you think this means to you and how you'll look back at it versus if you had never
01:05gotten this?
01:07Yeah, I'm at that age where, you know, when I retire someday, or maybe never, but when
01:14I retire someday, you know, maybe I'll look back on it and enjoy it.
01:17Right now, you know, it's about these guys, getting these guys in a good routine.
01:21You know, my kid's playing in the Mexican Winter League, so to go see him play, you know, be
01:28around my grandkids.
01:31And, yeah, that's really what I'm thinking about right now.
01:34I'm just really, really grateful, really thankful that we did it.
01:38You know, like who believed it, you know, but there were so many things that led up to it
01:42now that I look back and see that, you know, the years of getting eliminated or being beaten
01:48last year by the Dodgers, that was a blessing because we learned from it and we grew and we
01:53came in with a different attitude.
01:54We came in with a spirit about us, you know, and we weren't going to be denied.
02:00And what happened yesterday, you know, we weren't going to be denied.
02:04I got a bunch of hate mail last night and a bunch of people saying what an idiot I am
02:09and all that kind of stuff.
02:10And that's great for you.
02:12You know, that motivates you sometimes to be able to experience that and disregard it
02:19and do your thing the way you do your thing.
02:23Congrats on the win.
02:25Just curious, growing up in central New York, about an hour and a half from Cooperstown,
02:29just wondering, did you ever dream when you were younger of being a World Series champion?
02:33And now that you are, what might you say to some of these other young guys that have that
02:37same dream?
02:37Yeah, I mean, that's just it.
02:40You know, like people can talk about dreams or whatever, but it's the thoughts that you
02:45put your mind on something, you have a vision.
02:49And when you have a vision when you're young, it might not be the exact vision of winning
02:54a World Series champion as a manager.
02:56I didn't have that vision, you know, but I had visions and I followed them and I wouldn't
03:01be denied.
03:01I didn't let what other people said keep me from going after things, you know.
03:05I learned from them.
03:06I wasn't afraid to learn.
03:08I wasn't afraid to be wrong.
03:09I wasn't afraid to stick my foot in my mouth.
03:12I'm still continuing to do that from time to time.
03:15But it's acting in spite of that fear and keeping going that enables you to then think
03:22about like, hey, Cooperstown will remember the 2026 Brewers.
03:26And just a quick follow-up.
03:28Do you think after the rookie's performance, there might be a new Cooperstown brewing up
03:32in Milwaukee?
03:33Yeah.
03:34Coop was special, man.
03:36And you chart that kid and how he lives his life.
03:41You see what he's about.
03:43He's got a ton to learn.
03:45And I know guys listening to this that play with him will chuckle.
03:48He's got a ton to learn.
03:49But they trust him.
03:50Because he is undaunted.
03:52And he's focused.
03:54And he's focused on the right stuff.
03:55And yeah, you can't replace that.
03:58Congrats, Murph.
03:59Thanks, Tyler.
04:00You guys are very open about our way.
04:03You know, win our way.
04:04You see it everywhere.
04:05And you scoff and everything, but it worked.
04:07Why did it work?
04:09Yeah, I don't like it like the Brewer way or the, you know, our way.
04:14I don't personally relate to that.
04:17Because I think we're just doing it the way we need to do it.
04:20We're establishing standards amongst our group of 26.
04:25It ended up being 58 players this year that suited up for us.
04:28But we're establishing our standards and holding each other accountable to those standards.
04:33And it's not different than Tampa.
04:36I have great respect for Kevin and the group he's put together.
04:39They had an incredible season.
04:41But I don't think it's that different.
04:43I think it's just that undying.
04:45I said this.
04:47The Padres could have easily beaten us.
04:49They were every bit as good as us.
04:51And we had Uke knock that ball down.
04:53And then we had Churio's incredible walk-off hit against Miller.
05:00Or we might not have got out of the first round or whatever that was, the second round.
05:06But, you know, they were committed to it.
05:08And we did the little things.
05:09And we stayed in the moment.
05:11And, you know, I'm not saying it's luck.
05:13I'm just saying there's a lot of teams every bit as good as us.
05:16And I think what the difference was, these guys believed.
05:20And they paid attention to detail.
05:23We weren't great at a lot of things.
05:26But we were relentless.
05:28When Mizorowski came up last year, as soon as people saw him, they knew he was special.
05:32But he took a huge leap this year to be the last pitcher standing, essentially.
05:36Last man standing.
05:38Right.
05:38I love it.
05:38I mean, for a 24-year-old kid who throws that hard, how difficult is that?
05:43And how, I guess, proud of him are you of it?
05:45Yeah, no question.
05:46Miz is, you know, I joke and label him Forrest Gump because he just goes about his day,
05:52D, D, D, and just, I'm going to do it.
05:53And he just does it, you know.
05:55But he worked really hard.
05:57He worked really hard developing who he was.
05:59He worked in the weight room.
06:01He got himself better.
06:02And I got news for you.
06:03He's not even scratching the surface with how good this kid can be.
06:06It's not even scratching the surface.
06:07He's got so much more to work on.
06:10And he kind of has an inkling of that.
06:13He won the trust of the players this year.
06:16He just won the trust.
06:17They saw him work.
06:19They saw him come in 30 pounds heavier.
06:21They saw the work he does in between his starts.
06:24And he won the trust of the ball players.
06:26And when you win that trust, I don't care how talented you are, when you win that trust,
06:29you can help us.
06:30Sal Freelich, you know, he's a guy that you trust him.
06:34He probably broke his hand today and couldn't feel his hand for three or four innings.
06:38But you just trust him, you know.
06:40And I said, when this last out is recorded and we're the last man standing, Sal Freelich will be on
06:46the field.
06:49That's because of who he is.
06:52Pat, considering what you just said, how fitting is it that Mizorowski got to be the winning pitcher on the
06:56night that the Brewers win their first World Series?
06:59Yeah, I think it is fitting.
07:00He had an incredible year for us.
07:02And it isn't easy for a young kid, you know, with that much, you know, expectation every time he goes
07:07out.
07:07If he doesn't touch 105, people are like, what's wrong?
07:10You know, he maintained that 100, I think, through all five and two-thirds, pretty much.
07:16And he hadn't done that lately.
07:18But he was focused beyond belief.
07:19He knew the responsibility.
07:21He knew the standard we set.
07:22He knew that we were going to be the last man standing at some point.
07:25Whether it was tonight or two days from now, he knew we were going to be the last man standing.
07:30Just one more.
07:31Obviously, he didn't pitch tonight, but Aaron Ashby, what he did for you guys in the postseason, you probably don't
07:36get here without him.
07:37There's no question.
07:37He was one of the MVPs for sure because he took the ball every night, didn't make an excuse, wasn't
07:43worried about his numbers, wasn't worried about his role, wasn't worried about saves or holds or anything like that.
07:49He was worried about one thing, the Milwaukee Brewers winning.
07:51And when you've got guys on your team like that, it's special.
07:56Pat, how happy were you to see William Contreras get rewarded with the MVP and get the recognition across the
08:03wing that he deserved?
08:04Yeah, ask him.
08:05I told him before the game, you will be the MVP of the World Series because people recognize it.
08:12I don't know who votes on it.
08:13I don't even know who votes on it.
08:14Rights holders, media.
08:16All right.
08:16Well, here's the thing.
08:18I knew they were watching baseball and they know baseball.
08:20And I knew those people recognize what that kid did for us.
08:25And there was no doubt in my mind.
08:27And, yeah, he's special.
08:29And he's learning, you know what I mean?
08:31He's still a young player.
08:32He's learning.
08:34Yeah, I'm excited about his future, that he built a belief system that he knows, you know, I'm a good
08:40player.
08:41I don't need to prove anything to anybody anymore.
08:45Pat, you can hear upstairs.
08:47There's still a throng of people from Wisconsin going crazy.
08:53I'm sure they're going crazy all over Milwaukee.
08:56What do you think this parade is going to be like?
08:59Wow, I haven't even thought about it.
09:01When is the parade?
09:02Do we know?
09:04Huh?
09:06Friday?
09:07Parade?
09:07Do you have a baseball game?
09:09We might have to miss the parade.
09:12Do you have practice Friday?
09:15You don't?
09:17You can't miss a game for the parade.
09:19I don't know if I have any or not.
09:21All right, we'll decide later.
09:25Yeah, I mean, I think, you know, just for the city, for the people that have, you say, yeah, they've
09:31been waiting so long.
09:32That's one thing.
09:32But it's more about their undying commitment to this team.
09:38And it started growing and growing throughout the year, grew last year, and then you see what it means to
09:45them.
09:47And that's what – it's not just the city of Milwaukee.
09:49It's the whole state of Wisconsin.
09:51And I hope they're proud.
09:53I hope they're proud of these guys, and I hope they realize how special this group is.
09:58Because we didn't get a rating – we didn't get picked to win the division by one outlet.
10:02We didn't get picked to win over 85 games by anybody.
10:06I don't know if Las Vegas – I don't follow the line there.
10:09But they didn't pick us.
10:11So – but those fans of ours, they picked us.
10:15And the guys felt the energy, and they played accordingly.
10:20Murph, when you were a college coach, did you ever envision this?
10:25I really didn't.
10:26You know, I really didn't.
10:27You know, they had a way of pushing me out of college baseball.
10:33That's for another time.
10:34But I had a great experience, 25 years into college, and just a great experience that I've learned and learned
10:40and learned.
10:40I wasn't a very good coach.
10:43I had a lot of wins, maybe, but, you know, there was so much I had to grow.
10:46And kind of getting pushed out of college baseball helped me have to change and grow and do all those
10:51types of things that has led to being able to represent the Brewers.
10:58What did Jacob learn in the last year where he could get by the last month and succeed without the
11:04swing and miss that he's used to?
11:06Right.
11:06Well, credit Tampa because they know how to not swing and miss, and they commit to that contact.
11:12But Jacob is learning the whole time.
11:15He's way past his, quote, innings limit, you know.
11:19But he didn't let that spook him.
11:21He went out there and had to learn a little bit more about himself.
11:23But his desire, the biggest thing he had, and this is unquestionable, the biggest thing he had, he knew the
11:29guys in the room trusted him.
11:32Relied on him and trusted him.
11:34And he lived up to that standard.
11:36And that's the beauty of it.
11:37And of all the catchers you've been, what personality, what makes William the leader he is in that clubhouse?
11:44Yeah.
11:45William leads a little differently.
11:47I've got to be honest.
11:47It's very effective.
11:49But like I said, you know, he's our pit bull.
11:52So don't just walk up and pet him.
11:54You know what I mean?
11:55There's a chance you get nipped, you know.
11:58But him and I have developed a relationship, and it's taught me a lot.
12:02It's taught me a lot.
12:03And, yeah, I mean, this guy's a great.
12:07This guy's going to be – think about his first four years in the big leagues or five years now
12:11in the big leagues.
12:11Think about what he's achieved.
12:13And he's disappointed that his numbers aren't better.
12:15He's disappointed that he isn't, you know, gold glove or whatever, which is – you know, I don't know how
12:20all that's picked, and it's none of my business.
12:22But, you know, that guy's as good as there is back there.
12:25And he proved it.
12:27Huh?
12:30Well, Tyler, you know, I learned that, you know, you've got to love all your players, you know.
12:35And the ones that are toughest to love need the love the most, you know.
12:43The ones that are toughest to love need the love the most.
12:47And he's a guy that needs the love, and it has to be real.
12:50So you have to make the adjustment.
12:52You can't BS him.
12:53You have to make the adjustment.
12:54Like, I understand this guy, and you've got to learn to love him.
12:57And that's what I committed to.
12:58And he's not the only one, you know.
12:59If you commit to that as a – because the job as a coach, like, you're of service.
13:04And you can't just pick who you want to play.
13:07You know what I mean?
13:07You have to – there it is.
13:09This is my team.
13:09This is the best guy for the job.
13:11But he's really hard to get along with, maybe.
13:14Then you have to figure out that effective way.
13:17That doesn't mean be easy.
13:18That doesn't mean kiss his butt.
13:20That means you have to figure out that effective way.
13:23And, yeah, I'm very thankful.
13:25He taught me that.
13:28Murph, your team had this incredible finishing kick.
13:31I mean, you went 11-2 in October.
13:35You've lost three games in the last six weeks.
13:37You've lost five games since Labor Day.
13:40When was Labor Day?
13:41Labor Day was September 6th, right?
13:43September 7th.
13:44That's a long time ago.
13:46What's the date today?
13:47Today is October 28th.
13:49Wow.
13:5029th, actually, now.
13:51We had a lot of days off.
13:54But do you think that your guys smelled it at that point?
13:58That they understood that they had a chance to do what they did tonight?
14:03I think they had it in mind.
14:05I don't think all of them were clear enough on what it was going to take.
14:09Yelly kept speaking it into existence.
14:12He kept saying, hey, you know, we're going to win the World Series.
14:14And everybody kind of snapped their head like, you believe that?
14:17You know, did you see us play last week?
14:19You know, that type of thing.
14:20But the Padre Series did something for us.
14:23You know, it really did.
14:24The Padre Series, you know, because they're every bit as good as we are.
14:29And they could have won the World Series, too.
14:32But things went our way a little bit.
14:34And we did some clutch things.
14:37Jackson's walk-off hit, again, changed the course of.
14:42But it was the at-bats before that.
14:44The Yelly Walks, Dolan Base, Sanchez.
14:47You know what I mean?
14:47Like, you think of those at-bats we had.
14:51Now we get two bases loaded and Jack-Jack puts together in a bat of a lifetime.
14:57That really changed the course there.
14:59People said, hey, you know what?
15:00This might be meant to be.
15:03And once that happened and we went into L.A., we weren't walking in there to just play patty cake.
15:10You know, we were walking in there with a mission and it worked out.
15:13I got one more.
15:14When you show a little faith, is there magic in the night?
15:20See, the boss is going to say, this guy's sickening, man.
15:24He keeps, I had a whole thing written, you know, point blank.
15:28You know what I mean?
15:28Like, I had to go down Thunder Road, you know.
15:31We were born to run, you know.
15:34But last night there was a little darkness on the edge of town, I promise you.
15:39But today is glory days.
15:41Today is glory days.
15:42I was going to say, no retreat, no surrender.
15:43No retreat, no surrender.
15:45All right.
15:46Congrats.
15:46Thanks, guys.
15:47Thank you very much.
