China's AI stocks have lost about $480 billion in market value, yet DeepSeek is still shipping new models and reportedly raising about $15 billion. Meanwhile the US has ordered DeepSeek out of federal civilian IT systems, and a University of Hong Kong study says Chinese video AI now beats US rivals on visual quality but lags on safety. Here's the full picture, and what it means for you in India. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿค–

What's in this video:
โ€ข The bubble that burst: Reuters reports (Oct 26, 2026) that China's STAR 50 index of AI and chip leaders fell about 40% in under four months, wiping out roughly $480 billion. Unitree, MetaX and Moore Threads shares have halved; AI stocks are 42% of China's market value and 57% of turnover (Goldman Sachs data via Reuters); the STAR 50 still trades near 100x trailing earnings vs about 30x for the Nasdaq 100.
โ€ข DeepSeek keeps shipping: DeepSeek V4.1 Flash launched on September 10, 2026, a 552B-parameter mixture-of-experts model that activates about 8B parameters for input and 16B for output, with 1M-token context, native image understanding and a KV cache about a quarter the size of the previous Flash generation. An upgraded V4.1 Flash went live on DeepSeek's website, app and API on October 17. Reuters sources say DeepSeek raised about $15 billion (about 100 billion yuan) in its latest round, with CATL and Tencent among the biggest backers (reported Oct 22).
โ€ข Washington's order: the US Department of Homeland Security order, published in the Federal Register on October 20, 2026, tells federal civilian agencies to remove DeepSeek products, including third-party tools built using DeepSeek, and to stop buying them; agencies can request exceptions within 60 days. It does not restrict companies or the public. China's Foreign Ministry said it opposes "overstretching the concept of national security".
โ€ข Video AI: in the HKU study, ByteDance's Seedance 2.0 Pro scored 3.84/5 for visual quality vs Google Veo 3.1 at 3.47 and OpenAI Sora 2 Pro at 3.27, but ranked 6th of 11 on blocking harmful content; MiniMax's Hailuo 2.3 ranked first on safety. The study used model versions available in April.
โ€ข What it means for you: cheaper AI, knowing where your data goes, hype vs returns (not financial advice), and labelling AI videos.

Would you use a cheaper Chinese AI model if it was just as good? Tell us in the comments ๐Ÿ‘‡
