SpaceX just lined up $40 billion to buy AI chips, and Elon Musk says most AI cloud startups won't survive the credit crunch. 🚀💸
On Sunday, October 25, 2026, Elon Musk posted on X that SpaceX had closed $40 billion in debt to buy GPUs, the chips that power AI. He said it is "primarily callable debt" for GPUs arriving in the first and second quarters of 2027. On Monday, October 26, SpaceX said it signed a deal to lease data center hardware, including AI chips, from an entity managed by Apollo Global Management, totalling roughly $40 billion in principal. Musk says SpaceX could still borrow because it is investment grade and earns revenue from Starlink and rocket launches. His warning: debt markets have "almost entirely shut off" for companies without substantial revenue outside AI data centers, and "200+ neoclouds", the firms that rent out AI computing power, face "guppy-level death and consolidation."
