00:00Do they have to win on Sunday against the Steelers to prove themselves to be taken seriously?
00:05And I don't think so.
00:07I already take them seriously.
00:09You're winning as a complete team.
00:12Your quarterback situation is not great.
00:14By the way, there has been a little bit of a groundswell going,
00:16you guys aren't giving him enough credit.
00:18I go, boy, we just can't keep anybody happy, can we?
00:22It's unbelievable.
00:22I know you are champing at the bit on the Dylan Gabriel stuff.
00:26We'll do it.
00:26No, I also saw Greg Rosenthal.
00:29Oh, I saw that.
00:30I saw that.
00:31He says Deshaun Watson's been like a bottom three quarterback in the league.
00:36I do get that people don't like Deshaun Watson.
00:39And there are numbers that show that he's like a bottom third quarterback in the league.
00:43But then are you dismissing all the work he did with no running game up until last week?
00:47Offensive line was shaky.
00:49The fact that he had all the come from behind, fourth quarter clutch drives,
00:53like none of that accounts for anything.
00:55You're taking 27 quarterbacks over him?
00:58Well, let me break it down for you a little bit deeper here.
01:02If you are in a shootout, which you know I'm only taking 19 quarterbacks ahead of him right now.
01:07Still not the best, but certainly not the worst.
01:11If I break down their schedule and play quarterback schedule game,
01:14I don't believe if you find yourself in a shootout with a great quarterback,
01:18you're going to end up winning that game.
01:19It ain't going to happen.
01:20Of course, how many shootouts are there anymore?
01:22Right.
01:22Yeah, right now in the league.
01:23Like we saw that Rams-Kansas City game on, was it Thursday or Monday night football years ago?
01:28We were like, this is the future.
01:29Monday.
01:29No defense, all offense, air raid, here we go.
01:33And that was like, no, it was just a comet across the sky.
01:36And now we are struggling for every single inch.
01:40Which I did see the great write-up, and so did some people in the building, by the way, over
01:43there.
01:43Like, I understand people are like, man, Mahomes has the greatest PR.
01:47But it's the truth.
01:48When Mahomes starts his career, and your average linebacker is heavier,
01:52and running a 4-7-5-40 compared to a 4-5-40 now, and they're lighter,
01:59it's going to make a difference for the quarterbacks.
02:01So it's part of the reason you're not seeing as good a quarterback play.
02:04But digressing from that, look at where their schedule is.
02:07Yeah, they could go to Pittsburgh and they could lose.
02:09If Aaron Rodgers is on a heater, they might be in trouble.
02:12Maybe he'll decide not to – the thing that bothers – that should bother a Steelers fan,
02:18what I'm about to say, for whatever reason, he sees 21, and he gets in a you-know-what match,
02:22and he just has to throw at him.
02:24And it doesn't work.
02:25It doesn't work.
02:27It's like he sees 21 over there, and he just takes it personal, and he goes,
02:31I'm Aaron Rodgers, I'm a Hall of Famer, which if Denzel Ward played on a more successful team,
02:36I think we'd be talking about him being in the Hall of Fame someday.
02:38I hope he looks to try to pick on 21.
02:43That would be amusing to me.
02:44That would be fun.
02:45He tried to do it on that Thursday night.
02:47It didn't work all that well for him.
02:49Denzel got a pick.
02:49That was the first pick that Aaron Rodgers had ever thrown against the Browns last time they played.
02:55That's amazing.
02:55Let me look at this, though.
02:57QB versus QB.
03:00Aaron Rodgers might be able to get you into a shootout.
03:02If he gets into a shootout, and he's still the vintage Aaron Rodgers,
03:07which he has been at times here this year, probably ain't going to go our way.
03:11At New Orleans, is Tyler Shook going to get you into a shootout?
03:15Is C.J. Stroud going to get you into a shootout?
03:21Like, I look at this, there's Burrow on this schedule.
03:28There's Lamar on this schedule.
03:30Allegedly.
03:31That's allegedly.
03:32That's about it, man.
03:34There's not a lot of guys who are like, well, it's quarterback versus quarterback this Sunday.
03:38And I don't know.
03:40Like, I understand, like, when you look at the numbers, the next-gen stuff, it's like, man, this seems unsustainable.
03:46It's week eight.
03:47It's week eight.
03:48And they're not winning because of Deshaun Watson.
03:51He's helping them win.
03:52And I think that that was one of the biggest damn differences.
03:55And that's not a knock, considering where he was before.
03:57That's a big step forward for Deshaun Watson.
03:59Because they were definitely losing because of Deshaun Watson in the past.
04:02You're not losing games now because of them.
04:05And I do think that that's a big thing for them.
04:07But I don't need them breaking it all down and going back to this week.
04:11I want them to win.
04:13I can't see a scenario, other than if they really just rolled over and died, and I don't believe they're
04:18going to do that,
04:19that I'm going to come in here, spit and fire,
04:22saving matches, and going nuts on the Browns because they lost to the Steelers.
04:27They'll still be five and three.
04:28You're still a good football team.
04:30Why do I need to lose my mind?
04:32And therefore, why do I need to sit here and tell people,
04:36oh, I believe them, I believe them, I believe them, but you've got to beat the Steelers.
04:38If you don't beat the Steelers, I can't take you seriously.
04:41So who's lying to who here?
04:42I believe in the Browns, and I don't believe that they have to beat the Steelers to be taken seriously.
04:47I already take them seriously.
04:49In a season where we already beat the Steelers.
04:50In a season where we already beat the Steelers, yes.
04:52On national television.
04:53That's another thing.
04:54I didn't even bring that up in the argument.
04:56Yeah.
04:57I just think there are a lot of people, and I see it, people are like,
05:00you guys are already coping for a potential loss.
05:02It's like, no, it's just I know how the league works.
05:05I know that it's hard to beat any divisional rival twice in a year that is kind of on your
05:10level.
05:11Pittsburgh is on your level.
05:12They're better than I thought they would be.
05:14We're better than I thought we would be.
05:15Right?
05:16Is that fair to say?
05:16Yeah.
05:17Like, they've got very old components to their defense, and they've got a very old quarterback.
05:22But as much as I ripped Aaron Rodgers early in the season, like, he looks pretty back from, you know,
05:29the massive injury that he suffered that I just didn't think at his age he would be able to come
05:34back from.
05:34And he's still able to wing that ball 55 yards if he needs to.
05:38And I am concerned about certain elements of this game.
05:41Like, the Darnell Washington part of this is he's just becoming a bigger and bigger piece to their team.
05:48And they like to throw the ball out of the backfield.
05:51You know, Jalen Warren has been awesome.
05:53But they don't have a lot beyond those two things.
05:55They really don't.
05:55If you've watched the way they've played, they just don't have a lot of answers beyond that.
05:59So I'd like to think that our defense, with some of our key components, could take some of that away.
06:042-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
06:06Do they have to beat the Steelers Sunday for you to take them seriously?
06:10Let me get to Deion and Stowe.
06:12You're next up on the fan.
06:13Hello.
06:14Hey, what's going on, guys?
06:15How y'all doing?
06:15We're doing well, Deion.
06:16Go right on ahead.
06:19I don't say – well, yeah, they need to.
06:21And I'm going to tell you the reason why.
06:22Oh, wow.
06:23Okay.
06:23Because if you look at that schedule, look at the schedule.
06:25Cincinnati is coming.
06:27The Cincinnati Bengals are on – everybody's telling that division.
06:31They're 4-2 right now, and they've got three straight games at home.
06:34One on the road with the Commanders, then back at home.
06:38So they're coming.
06:39Their three straight games are very good potential winners with the Titans.
06:44I think Pittsburgh is one of them, and I forget who the other one was.
06:48But I know it's three straight at home.
06:50What Cleveland is, if they can get a win on the roads, put their neck on the Steelers,
06:55that would be great.
06:56But a simple fact is, you go on the road to New Orleans, and then you've got the Texans at
07:00home.
07:00New Orleans is not a given, especially with Cleveland.
07:03The bottom is going to drop out with Cleveland at any point in time.
07:06So I'm like, if you beat them already, go in there and beat them again.
07:10You already beat the Steelers at home.
07:12I mean, you split the series.
07:14You've won five of your last six.
07:16Even if they lose on Sunday, if they go out there and they beat New Orleans
07:19and they come back home and win before the bye week, you're still fine.
07:23That's what I'm saying.
07:25You're thinking they're going to win like that.
07:27You're hoping they are.
07:28What this is, Cleveland Browns, their offense is putting a strain on that defense.
07:32You can't keep going out there for three quarters and give a dud and then come
07:36hoping the defense is going to hold you.
07:37But it was the opposite this past week.
07:39It was the complete opposite this past week.
07:41The offense bailed out the defense.
07:43Yeah, I mean, you had problems there.
07:45The defense eventually got it figured out.
07:47But, Deion, thank you for the call.
07:48You got gashed on the ground.
07:50You got over 20 points scoring.
07:52I thought your offense did fine on Sunday.
07:54You had over 100 total purpose shards for Quinchon Judkins.
07:58That's a good game.
08:00I think it will be more telling.
08:03If you look at the schedule, 10 games left, they have five should-win games on the schedule,
08:08knowing what we know about them now, right?
08:10Yeah.
08:11And that doesn't count the two with Cincinnati that you figured they'll probably split
08:16if they continue to play the way they've been playing, right?
08:18I mean, I would be more concerned if they go out and lay an egg against Houston or New Orleans.
08:25Like, that's where I would be like, all right.
08:27Like, yes.
08:29Yes.
08:30Like, I was about Tennessee.
08:31I thought Tennessee was a bigger damn game coming off the Ravens than I thought the Ravens were.
08:35You know, they lost to the Jets.
08:37And, you know, you came on and said not great things about them, about the team.
08:41I didn't hit a panic button, but I told everybody.
08:43No, I'm glad we didn't, by the way.
08:44You're right.
08:45Owen's right.
08:45I was concerned.
08:46But I'm going, all right, you lost to the Jets.
08:49This is going to be a test of your maturity here, how you come out against the Ravens.
08:52And you went out against the Ravens.
08:53You won the game.
08:54Tennessee was another test of maturity.
08:56You're down 14-0.
08:57You could have packed it in and lost.
08:58They're passing all.
08:59If you get out the checklist of what good teams are in the NFL over the last decade,
09:03they're passing all of the tests.
09:05Yes.
09:05They're checking those things off.
09:06Yes.
09:07And I cannot believe that I'm saying that.
09:10And where we, where everyone in this city was after preseason game number three, I cannot
09:16believe that they are there.
09:17So when you were saying all this, how does that sound like we're already coping for a
09:21loss when we are saying that honestly about all this, about this football team?
09:25How does that sound like I'm already coping for some sort of a loss other than some guy
09:30trying to troll tone on social media?
09:32Well, the other part of this is I've seen people kind of rag on the team for, quote,
09:38barely beating Tennessee.
09:40And then I'm like, well, then you're not watching the league and you don't have a vested interest.
09:43Everyone barely beats everyone.
09:44Yeah.
09:45And in fact, this year, it's funny you say that, Owen, because we went over the numbers
09:47yesterday.
09:48Quite literally this year in the NFL, there has been an all-time number of one-score games
09:54through seven weeks.
09:55Every game is one-score games.
09:58Did anybody pick Atlanta to beat San Francisco at home?
10:00Yeah.
10:00I just think when I hear that from people, I think you're stuck in a different year,
10:04in a different era.
10:05You're still thinking of, you know, quarterbacks of yesteryear putting up huge numbers every
10:11week.
10:11Maybe that happens in the second half of the season.
10:13That has not happened so far in the NFL.
10:15Or they're doing what I've accused you of trying to do so many times.
10:19And you're not doing it as much this year, so I'm not ripping you for it.
10:21You're trying to protect your feelings from getting hurt.
10:24So you're sitting here waiting for something bad to happen so you could say, fine, I never
10:29got my hopes up and so my feelings don't have to get hurt.
10:31Because yeah, if they go and they win against Pittsburgh and somehow the bottom falls out
10:35after six and two.
10:36Like you remember in 2014, there were seven and four at one point.
10:39People were making playoff plans.
10:41And then they put an idiot in there to play quarterback.
10:44And things changed very quickly.
10:46And that season got away.
10:48And really, it led to the beginning of the end for Mike Pettin.
10:50So yeah, there is some history there.
10:52But again, if I go back to 2014, it's the same thing as this rivalry.
10:56To 2003 or 2014, to these young guys, it doesn't matter.
11:00Half these guys were not even teenagers in 2014.
11:04Most of some of these guys weren't born.
11:06Most of these guys were under five years old in 2003.
11:11It's not that team.
11:14I cannot stress it enough.
11:16Their naivete of the history actually helps them.
11:19Because if they knew the history of this organization recently, then this is a sad commentary on it.
11:26They wouldn't be five and two.
11:27Because they would just know that they have to go out there.
11:29Or they would go out there and they just lose.
11:31And that's what the Browns do.
11:33So it's got to change somehow.
11:35We've tried to do it every single way.
11:37We've tried to go with a complete and utter teardown and rebuild.
11:40Which, by the way, I have to give Andrew Barry some credit right now.
11:43Because we thought the big T word was going to be brought out.
11:46And sure as hell, they are not tanking.
11:48That's for damn sure.
11:49What's wrong about that?
11:50So I'll give some credit there.
11:52But the youth that they have, they have to look forward.
11:56They can't look in the past.
11:57I can be afraid of boogeymen from the past.
11:59Because I don't know any better and I'm just a fan.
12:01Them, they've got to keep moving forward, brother.
12:03And I don't think that this week defines them as a franchise, as a football team.
12:11It win or lose.
12:12They're 6-2.
12:14It's another win in the barn.
12:15Let's get ready for the next week.
12:16On the road again.
12:17Another test.
12:18On the road against New Orleans.
12:19I will rub pony's nose in it.
12:23But after that, it's time to get moving.
12:25Lose this game.
12:26I'm not packing it in for the year and talking about Drew Mestemaker for the rest of the fall.
12:30It's been nice not to have to worry about that to this point.
12:33No kidding, because I've had a lot to do on Saturday.
12:35So I have to go back and watch a lot of stuff.
12:38It won't be like that next year.
12:42Sad Saturday.
12:43Jaden in Brook Park.
12:44You're next up on the fan.
12:44Hello, Jaden.
12:46Hey, how are you?
12:47Wonderful, Jaden.
12:48Go right on ahead.
12:49Yeah, I'm agreeing with you, honestly.
12:52I feel like every week we say that they, do they need a win for them to prove themselves to
12:57us?
12:57I think they already have.
12:58I mean, I know it's only the Titans we beat, but it was a full-team win.
13:04I think they're playing, like everyone says, they're playing competent football.
13:07I think if they lose, it's not the biggest deal.
13:10Like you said, we'll bounce back and we'll come back next week against New Orleans.
13:14I just don't think they need a win for them to prove themselves to us.
13:17You know what I mean?
13:18And it's also, Jaden, like, do you see this team being like a, well, right now they're a two-loss
13:23team.
13:23Do you see them being a 15-win team?
13:26Yeah, I do.
13:27Oh, you do?
13:29Damn, I didn't see them being a 15-win team.
13:32I was going to make a point to the contrary there.
13:34Listen, listen, listen.
13:35You got to love your team all the way.
13:37Okay, that's, all right, that's fair.
13:39But in all honesty, Jaden.
13:40No, but no, honestly, no.
13:42No, I do not.
13:42And I mean, you know what I mean?
13:44I think this is already a good season.
13:47I can see them going at least nine to ten wins, if I'm being honest.
13:50And that would be, in the words of Nick Wilson, thank you very much for the call, Jaden.
13:55That would be the, quote, freaking Shangri-La if they won ten games.
14:01And all they got to do is go five and five down the stretch to be a ten-win team.
14:06And more than likely, it might be tough being the postseason.
14:10I understand that not every ten-win team makes the playoffs if the AFC is really that tough.
14:15But if they end up being a ten-win team, who's going to call this thing a failure?
14:18And I think there's very few teams that win 15 games in a year.
14:22So, damn it, guys, there's going to have to be a Monday we come in here and we don't freak
14:25out.
14:25Like, people sit there and go, you guys don't know how to talk about a winning team.
14:28Do you know how to talk about a winning team?
14:29I don't think these people watch.
14:31Because I'm another one losing my mind.
14:32I just don't think some of these people pay attention to the league.
14:34They just pay attention to the Browns.
14:35They pay attention to everything surrounding the Browns.
14:38In 2020, we all talk about how we got blown out in the opener.
14:41Stefanski's first game against Baltimore.
14:42Do you know what they did in Pittsburgh that year?
14:46They got drilled 38-7.
14:48You know what they also did?
14:49They went to the playoffs and beat, which team was it again?
14:52Hold on, let me look here.
14:53Oh, the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road.
14:55So, what, all year we were probably saying, I don't take the Browns seriously.
14:58I don't take the Browns seriously.
14:58Come on, guys.
14:59This isn't the Super Bowl this week.
15:01About last night in five minutes where a game you might not have seen,
15:05a game you wanted to see but still didn't see,
15:08and then the end of a career.
15:12About last night, five on the fan.
