03:47Welcome to this episode of the FroWrestling Podcast.
03:49I am Dr. Fro.
03:50We are talking all things pro wrestling tonight in the news and rumors category,
03:55starting with the new level, Austin Creed and Kofi.
03:59It has been revealed that their contract link that they signed with All Elite Wrestling
04:03is a five-year contract deal,
04:05that it was well in the works before their actual debuts took place,
04:08that it was very clear from the early get-go
04:11that Tony Khan was going to lock them in for at least a five-year deal,
04:15and they are loving everything about their experience there so far.
04:18Getting to do some more creativity,
04:20being able to express themselves in the ring in a way that is more meaningful to them,
04:23being able to bounce ideas off of Tony Khan
04:26and being able to incorporate some of their own thought into the creative.
04:31These are things that I think a lot of talents are going to find very advantageous,
04:34things that people would find attractive about going to All Elite Wrestling.
04:39There's a lot of reasons to go to WWE.
04:41Biggest platform, apply your trade for people who are on the grandest stage,
04:46WrestleMania runs, championships that have long story traditions,
04:50and I understand all of that.
04:51But after you've done so many things in a business,
04:54somebody like Kofi Kingston or Austin Creed,
04:57you really want to be able to put your own spin on the end of your legacy.
05:00Let's be honest, they are closer to the end than the beginning of their careers,
05:03and they probably want to make sure everything they do from here on out is meaningful.
05:07I would not be surprised, five, six, seven years down the road from here,
05:11if they do make a return to WWE for a Hall of Fame induction,
05:15maybe one last nostalgia run or something like that.
05:19I would not be shocked at all, but for the time being, for the next five years,
05:23they are All Elite, and I expect them to be a major focal point of the company in various capacities
05:30as they continue down the road and keep doing what they do so, so well.
05:34It's like they haven't aged at all, and it's fantastic seeing this rejuvenated,
05:38new level personification of their characters that we haven't seen in quite a long time.
05:45Jonathan Coachman broke some news today, and you could take this with a pinch of salt
05:49because he has been known to elaborate sometimes or report things in a way
05:56that doesn't always give you the full picture or scope of what he's reporting.
06:00But his word is, he says he knows somebody in WWE.
06:03He has someone who's a backstage person who he's very friendly with who has indicated to him
06:08that the matches for WrestleMania are 100% a go, one being the one we expected,
06:13Obafemi versus Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship.
06:16But the other match would be CM Punk versus Cody Rhodes on the grandest stage of them all.
06:23So between now and then, now there's no indication if that would be for the WWE Championship.
06:29I could easily see it being that. Cody needs to stay out of the championship picture for now,
06:34which then leads me to Punk. Now Punk could easily get back into that mix.
06:38I don't suspect it. I think Kevin Owens is going to be the next one to take that championship from
06:43Sami Zayn. So then how do you get the championship from Owens to Punk, especially since they're having
06:48their feud now, and you don't want to have to revisit that so soon. So I'm not sure that the
06:52Punk
06:52Rhodes thing is necessarily going to be for a championship if indeed you believe Jonathan Coachman
06:57to begin with. If it is, I think it would be very advantageous to just have it be a straight
07:03-up
07:04wrestling match. There doesn't have to be an over-the-top heel and baby face. Just wrestle.
07:09Showcase an absolute killer match. Show the whole wrestling world what you can do,
07:14and don't worry about championships and everything else. These two, wrestling is enough of an attraction.
07:18You don't need a belt to put it over the top. Keep that championship over on Kevin Owens or
07:24Sami Zayn or somebody else and use it as an elevation tool for yet another talent, perhaps
07:29like a Trick Williams or somebody like that. If Trick were to lose the United States Championship
07:33between now and then, I could easily see him slipping into a main event level match for the
07:37WWE Championship, and I think that would be a fantastic use of him. Speaking of runs in the
07:44company and people getting elevated, not that this guy needs any elevation at this point, but there is
07:48conversation on, I believe it was his own show or whatever it was, Rob Van Dam talking about another
07:55run in AEW, that there are talents there that he'd love to have an opportunity to work one more match
08:01with. He mentioned people like Adam Copeland, Christian Cage, Kofi, Chris Jericho, all these guys
08:09he's had some history with, and it sounded like, you know, he also mentioned Jeff Hardy, who's not
08:15in AEW, but it sounded as though these are more like, I don't want to say bucket lists, but things
08:20he'd love to do, but he's not going to lose any sleep if he doesn't do it, which is a
08:24good perspective
08:25to have. Now, will Tony Khan ever offer him another opportunity to go there? I don't know. I really
08:30don't. Would WWE be interested in a nostalgic return for him? Possibly, but less likely because they
08:36have so many people under talent contracts. I don't know how to see Rob Van Dam fitting into
08:42either one of the big two companies at this point. I actually believe he would be a better fit back
08:47in TNA, where he's done a lot of stuff, both prior to and after his association with his wife,
08:55Katie Forbes. So I don't know. I don't know. I don't see an AEW run coming, but I do know
09:00that Rob
09:00Van Dam, he takes sporadic appearances at this point. I know he'd like to get back in the ring and
09:04do a
09:04little bit more before he wraps his career up. I'm just not sure where that's going to be. I'm
09:09in favor of TNA. I think he would bring brand name recognition to their brand, help them elevate
09:14their show, and he's also not going to meet the same kind of creative struggles he would have in
09:19WWE, not wanting to push him and use him basically as an enhancement talent, or in AEW where he probably
09:24would do much the same stuff. From there, a conversation with David Finley, which was on the
09:30Tony Schiavone, What Happened When podcast, where he talked about the reason for signing with AEW and
09:36leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling. And the key factor is he said that the money in AEW is drastically
09:43better than New Japan Pro Wrestling. And that's a huge issue. And that's something that is really
09:49pertinent knowledge because AEW kind of gets a bad rap. Their association with New Japan Pro Wrestling,
09:54they've taken more talent than they've given to New Japan. But at the end of the day,
09:58if Tony Khan is willing to pay and New Japan is not, can you blame the talent for going to
10:02AEW?
10:03And when your contract's up, isn't that what you're supposed to do? Seek out whoever's going
10:06to pay you the most money and let you apply your trade on the biggest platform? If New Japan Pro
10:11Wrestling, I know the last couple of years they've been reorganizing and things like that, change of
10:15leadership and whatnot, ownership to some degree. If they're not going to be forking over the dollars
10:20at the level that Tony Khan is, then they're going to continue to lose talent. And even if they
10:24dissolve their relationship with AEW, that's not going to prevent New Japan talent from going to
10:30AEW. They're still going to follow the biggest paycheck possible. So this, in my opinion, is a
10:36concern for New Japan. They need to be addressing the pay gap that they're creating and find ways to
10:41retain talent. Because at this point, when you hear people like David Finley, who occupied a very
10:45important role while he was in Japan, if they're willing to leave to come to AEW and take on these
10:51different prominent positions in AEW, I don't see any reason why there wouldn't continue to be every
10:56year when contracts are due, an exit is from New Japan to come to AEW. And of course, a few
11:02people
11:02here and there going to WWE. I think it's going to be more AEW than WWE. Now, Tony Khan can't
11:06sign
11:06everybody. He's got to have enough room on the roster, but I don't see this not continuing this
11:12trend of AEW taking New Japan talent, if for nothing else, for monetary reasons. Somebody else who is
11:18signing a new contract. Amazing Red, the new TNA X Division champion, has officially signed a contract
11:24with TNA Wrestling. And, you know, like we've said before, they usually do short-term contracts,
11:30buy appearance contracts, things of that nature. With him being the X Division champion, you already
11:36knew he was going back for at least one match, but with him signing a contract like this, it could
11:40be a
11:40more substantial role. This helps him, I'm sure, with his own promotion. They'll probably be able to
11:45swap talent, bounce ideas off each other. He could try to help cultivate some TNA talent in his company
11:52that they could be brought up to the TNA roster. So there's a lot of opportunity here for Amazing Red.
11:57The only thing I feel bad about is he's somebody who's so good, I think he would be wonderfully
12:01showcased on AEW or on WWE. WWE more so in the cruiserweight scene with that AAA cruiserweight
12:08championship or even on NXT. In AEW, he can go with a whole lot of different people. They have a
12:13lot of,
12:14you know, smaller guys or even Ring of Honor. But for now, Amazing Red locked down with TNA. Good
12:18for him. Absolutely love that. And the last thing for this episode, the United States State Department
12:23has ordered all United States diplomats to get out of Saudi Arabia. Now, why am I producing that on a
12:30wrestling podcast? Well, because when the United States government doesn't want their own people in
12:35a country, do you really think we should be having a professional wrestling show in that country?
12:39Now, I know you guys who tune into every episode know that I've been beating the drum that they need
12:43to change the location for a very long time. But every single day that goes by, something more
12:48insane and ludicrous happens. It makes it so blaringly obvious that that's what needs to happen.
12:53Yet, for whatever reason, it hasn't changed yet. Now, I understand WWE's trying not to
12:57take as big a financial loss, but the longer you wait, look, if you lose the $50 million,
13:02you lose the $50 million, whether you cancel today or you cancel two weeks from now. But if you move
13:07it
13:07now, you have a much better opportunity to sell tickets at whatever venue you move it to in the
13:12United States or elsewhere. Now, if I were them, I might even consider an international
13:16destination. And I'm going to make a suggestion here. One of them may be shocking. If I were them,
13:21I would look into booking maybe the Budokan Hall in Japan or the Egg Dome or something like that,
13:27a big major international venue where they've never had a major PLE before, because that would
13:32garner some attention from that country's fans who don't always get the pay-per-view opportunity.
13:38So I'm a huge fan of doing it in Japan. I know they have an extended presence now in India.
13:44That's a possibility, though, if you go to India, again, you're relatively close to that Iran situation.
13:50I don't think Iran would be stupid enough to send missiles into India. I think that would never
13:57happen. But that's something you could also look at. I know there's some conversations with
14:02Great Khali has a promotion there, and he's been working with, I forget the acronym for their
14:09company, the one that WrestleTalk always endorses, WXP or something like that. But at the end of the
14:16day, WWE needs to make a decision here, and they need to make it soon. And if you're waiting for
14:21the
14:21Saudi government, they don't care. They're going to keep it there no matter what. I feel so bad for
14:26all the talent and employees involved in this situation. Not a good look. Not a great situation.
14:32Talk about taking blood money in the past. This is even worse. You may have new blood on your hands
14:37if you go there this time. Not a good idea. That's all the time we have for this episode. Check

14:41with us next episode. We run down the latest wrestling news and rumors. Special thanks, as always, to

14:54Banani Market by Doodle Games, or Legendary Elements by Freddy Food Creations. All three
14:59of these, I have a copy of, and I purchased them all at thegamecrafter.com, where you can choose
15:04from these three or hundreds of other titles in the independent board game creation space.
15:09If you want to support independent game creation, you're sick and tired of playing the same games
15:12you've played your entire life, arguing with everybody about who wins at Monopoly, or pop a lot
15:17of trouble on a pop-o-matic bubble, or Clue, or Life, or whatever games you play. Bring something new
15:23home to the family. Give them a new experience. Have a blast. You can do that with these three
15:28or many others. Again, Sketchy People, Banani Market, Legendary Elements. If you're looking
