Drought conditions have exposed portions of historic U.S. Highway 6 beneath Colorado's Dillon Reservoir. Tony Laubach explores the old roadway, which once passed through the original town of Dillon.

00:01Believe it or not, I'm walking on a highway that's spent most of the last 60 years underwater.
00:07This is old U.S. Highway 6, emerging from Colorado's Dillon Reservoir as drought sends water levels plunging.
00:13Before the reservoir existed, this highway connected Frisco to the old town of Dillon and continued toward Loveland Pass.
00:19But in the early 1960s, the entire town was relocated to make way for the reservoir, leaving the highway behind.
00:25Now, more than six decades later, the reservoir is just 58% full, sitting nearly 38 feet below its normal
00:33full level.
00:34And while the exposed pavement offers a rare glimpse into Colorado's past, it's also a warning about the state's ongoing
00:41drought.
00:41Denver Water expects the reservoir to fall to just 50% capacity by next spring.
00:46So while this forgotten highway is making a comeback, it's one Colorado would rather see disappear again.
