00:00Okay, we got some breaking news from the National Football League.
00:05As the sellers are starting to define themselves,
00:08the Indianapolis Colts are sending eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quentin Nelson
00:14to Seattle per Adam Schefter and Rappaport and many insiders.
00:20Nelson's on an expiring contract.
00:21The Colts get back a third and a fifth, Kang.
00:24Is that it?
00:25A third and a fifth?
00:29And Seattle gets an upgrade at the interior of their offensive line.
00:33Look, it's that time of year.
00:37Watching the Dallas-Philly game last night,
00:40I'm thinking to myself, keep an eye on the team that loses this game.
00:45But let's start with the Colts.
00:46Colts have a player that has come up on the show
00:51that there's rumor that he can be had,
00:53and that player is Sauce Gardner.
00:57Sauce Gardner is a cornerback.
01:01Here's one of the issues,
01:03is that Sauce Gardner isn't exactly playing all that well.
01:08His passer rating against is in the bottom third in the National Football League.
01:13He doesn't appear to be the player he was when the Jets had him,
01:18and he burst on the scene and was outstanding.
01:21It's unfortunate.
01:23His passer rating allowed is 113.6.
01:28It's not particularly good.
01:30He is also under a contract that has his,
01:35I have to look this up,
01:36his cap number goes from like 9 million to 20 million to 26 million
01:40before there's an out.
01:41Yeah, next year the cap hit is extraordinary for them to take on.
01:51His, because he signed a big,
01:53it was a massive deal that he signed, right?
01:56A four-year, $120 million deal.
01:59So there's a lot with that.
02:01Base salary for the last two years of that contract
02:03is just under $30 million.
02:07So for a guy who's not playing well,
02:11does he just want to change his scenery,
02:13or has he really deteriorated as a player?
02:17You know, if the price is almost nothing,
02:22and, you know,
02:24maybe a change of scenery doesn't good,
02:26it feels to me like that's trading for a name
02:30and not necessarily a guy who's playing football right now.
02:33The other one last night,
02:35as I know a lot of people want,
02:36Reek Wollin.
02:37Reek Wollin got cooked last night by the Cowboys.
02:39Yeah, he did not look good.
02:40He gave up five catches for 113 yards.
02:43He was targeted eight times.
02:45He had a defensive holding penalty,
02:48and it looked to me like Dallas was going at him.
02:51Yeah, there's, you know,
02:53I was paying attention to what Seattle has done
02:57over the years.
02:59Seattle?
03:00Yeah, Seattle.
03:01You know, they had the Legion of Boom,
03:03which was based on their back end,
03:06the secondary, and other players,
03:08but really looking at the back end.
03:09And they've tried to reinvent that.
03:12And when they went out,
03:13and they've done some pretty good drafting
03:15with Witherspoon and others,
03:17and then they had Reek Wollin in there too,
03:19and Reek Wollin had a great rookie season,
03:21and then not so much after that.
03:24And they continue to add to their secondary.
03:26Here comes Nick Emden-Wari and other players.
03:28And he's the odd man out in Seattle.
03:31They let him go.
03:33Gets picked up by Philly,
03:35and now he looks like he's terrible at Philly.
03:38Maybe, just maybe, he's not the guy.
03:40Despite that he fits a lot of things people look for.
03:43He's a big corner.
03:44He's a tall, rangy corner.
03:46He's got good speed.
03:48But if he's not able to cover,
03:51then he's not going to do any good.
03:53Unless it's for something like a six-round pick,
03:55and then, of course, it's just depth.
03:57And at that point, I'll take a depth piece.
03:59But I'm not going to go pretty hard after him.
04:03One of their other corners I would,
04:05if they're willing to part with either of those guys
04:08who are going to be looking at some contracts real soon,
04:14if Quinion Mitchell is available or Cooper Dejean is available.
04:17I doubt they are, but that's a call I would make.
04:22Yeah, and I don't want to get carried away
04:24by Reek Wollin's game last night.
04:26But it's been a season.
04:27Well, it's funny because CBS put together trades
04:30that need to happen,
04:32and the Lions need secondary up.
04:34The solution, cornerback Tariq Wollin.
04:37Wollin came into Philadelphia in a one-year deal
04:39to fill the hole at the outside corner
04:41opposite of Quinion Mitchell,
04:42and he has done a decent job.
04:44Opponents are completing under half their passes
04:46and averaging just 6.2 yards per attempt
04:48when Wollin is in the primary defender.
04:50The Lions ran on Joey Porter Jr.
04:52before he ultimately ended up on the Cowboys.
04:54This could be another solid option
04:56for much, much cheaper.
04:58The Eagles figure to be sellers
04:59given the disastrous run of injuries.
05:02Tariq Wollin was a free agent
05:04and didn't really get any significant offers
05:07and signed the one-year contract with Philly.
05:09I think that's the league sending a little bit of a message
05:11as much as it is anything,
05:13any stat would dictate.
05:14But, hey, look, this is a tough decision to make.
05:20And just because a guy isn't playing well in Philly
05:23or a guy isn't playing well in Indianapolis
05:26doesn't mean comparatively
05:28he wouldn't come to Detroit and be an upgrade.
05:31Now, Ennis Raikstraw is playing better.
05:34Ennis Raikstraw tweaked an ankle.
05:36He also didn't finish the game.
05:37Yeah.
05:39Obviously, they've made this shift to man-to-man
05:42and it was one thing to do it against Arizona.
05:45It was another thing to do pretty well against Green Bay.
05:48Well.
05:48Especially on the deep ball, which is their calling card.
05:51They've made a shift to commit to more plays there defensively.
05:54It's not like they're specifically a man-to-man defensive team.
05:58No, no, no.
05:58They're just doing it more.
05:59Yeah, they're doing it more often.
05:59That's what I meant.
06:01But, again, if it's Philadelphia, you look in there,
06:04I'd look at the two guys they drafted in the 2024 draft.
06:07They'd be far more expensive.
06:09And, again, if I'm doing this show in Philly,
06:11I'm like, no, I'm not trading the young kids.
06:13Well, but Philly's got issues, right?
06:15Oh, I know.
06:16They've got cap space.
06:17They're going to have cap space problems,
06:18and trying to sign both of those guys might be a problem.
06:23Well.
06:23Because they're both deserving of big-time contracts
06:26that are going to pay over $20 million a year.
06:29I know they're still two and five.
06:31I was not happy that Tampa blew out Carolina.
06:35No, that wasn't.
06:37And then you see that McCollum, you know,
06:40when he returned the two-point conversion
06:43or the blocked extra point for a two-point conversion the other way,
06:47and Zion McCollum's all over the place making plays.
06:50They're a game and a half out of first place.
06:51Yeah.
06:52That doesn't help.
06:53They've got two wins, and they're a game and a half out of first.
06:55Yeah.
06:56Because Carolina's in first at three and three.
06:58That's that great division.
07:00But, you know, so that Zion McCollum would be a great addition,
07:03and that one would be one that would feel like a bigger move.
07:06I mean, again, I don't want to keep going back
07:11because it doesn't do any good.
07:13This is why they should have traded for Joey Porter Jr.,
07:17because the next guy may not be available.
07:19Right.
07:19And that price tag, it's what had me turn in my Bradbot card.
07:26It just, the price tag seemed to be worth it,
07:30and, you know, I don't want a broken-down corner
07:34that isn't producing anymore.
07:36Now, again, sometimes guys get traded.
07:39Look at J.J. McCarthy.
07:40He's doing absolutely nothing in Minnesota,
07:42gets sold for nothing to the Giants,
07:44and now he's putting together something.
07:46What is it?
07:46Five quarters.
07:47And that doesn't mean he's arrived,
07:50but, you know, it looks like he wasn't done
07:54and that there's still gas in the tank.
07:56Well, also, we're starting to see some prices being set for players,
08:00and it doesn't look extraordinary.
08:03Like it doesn't look.
08:04Yeah, I mean, the price that Seattle had to pay
08:06to acquire a Quentin Nelson, that's not a bad price at all, right?
08:12No, it doesn't.
08:12I mean, I give up, what was it, a third and a fifth?
08:15Yeah, for one of the best guards in the league.
08:18But he's on an expiring contract.
08:18I mean, I wouldn't do it for this Lions team.
08:21No, not for, I mean, he doesn't fit,
08:23they don't need the guard.
08:24I already have access to your offensive line.
08:26But your point is...
08:27Find that equivalent.
08:28Find that player who's an expiring contract,
08:31and maybe you can get them for a third-round pick.
08:35Well, I hope they are doing something,
08:37because this is a team in the NFC that just fortified their chances.
08:42The defending NFC champion just fortified their chances,
08:46coming off an impressive win over Kansas City.
08:50Yeah, and...
08:51I hope that something is available for them to do.
08:53Well, I do too.
08:54I mean, there's certainly...
08:55And then they take it.
08:57Different people are putting out their different lists of players
08:59that should be targeted and whatnot.
09:01I saw one earlier today, at least on Twitter,
09:04was just one that said,
09:06hey, great fit for Khalil Mack would be the Detroit Lions.
09:09I'm like, is it?
09:11That feels like a story from four years ago.
09:13Right, or six years ago, or eight years ago.
09:16It just doesn't...
09:17The story doesn't go away.
09:19But those names are still going to come up.
09:22The edge rushers are still going to be associated with the Lions,
09:24and so is every defensive back that's going to come out there
09:28or that anybody thinks could be available.
09:30They're going to link them to the Lions, and for a reason.
09:32So hopefully there's a marriage there somewhere.
09:34Well, maybe one team selling will spark other teams
09:37that are considering it.
09:38Okay, let's start selling our guys too,
09:40because we don't want to get to the trade deadline
09:43and nobody's left to buy our guys.
09:46You are next, 971.
