01:07weren't bad calls in that game but if you're going to cry to me after for literally decades i've been
01:13told as a fan just play better and don't let the officials take a game from you and with lions

01:19i don't want to hear it and i don't care at all but i've been able to think a little

01:25this and i actually as nail biting and nervous as i was during the game i feel way better about

01:30game this morning uh thinking about the two huge turnover mistakes the lions made and the upwards of
01:3714 points they left on the field and they still come away with a win it's like this team is
01:43really
01:44good at protecting the football and this feels like the aberration not the new rule uh look if
01:51you can win with those kind of mistakes clean those mistakes up you gotta feel good moving forward
01:58and going into this minnesota game like there's i'm looking forward to it guys you all have a great day
02:04you know travis you bring up something that's really interesting you talk about where we are right
02:10now this is a a fan base in a football town that is completely comfortable with elevated expectations
02:18that that there are plenty of calls today complaining about a win over a division rival and a good team
02:24these are elevated expectations these are like these are like like nfl first world problems when you
02:34when you're in that first class of football the expectations are high and that's fine
02:39now what shouldn't get lost in it is that all of the like you might not like some of the
02:44decisions
02:44dan campbell made you might think that green bay blew opportunities and and you could there's a
02:51more obvious than anything that the lions did you know a missed block can blow up what would have
02:57been a touchdown play just one missed block that's as hurtful to a play as a drop pass and and
03:03there's
03:03examples of stuff like that that happens throughout the course of games that don't get the attention
03:07without question so when another team blows something that's obvious and they did like
03:12they had some interceptions in their hands they had um then they couldn't hang on the lions had an
03:19interception in their hands that they couldn't hang on and lions did pick off a pass there's
03:25you know that things are good when you're complaining about the quality of a win over somebody good
03:32yeah absolutely and you think about you know we're talking a lot about the fourth down decisions and
03:38you know i'm i've warmed up to accepting the the one uh fourth and two from your from your 24
03:45yard line
03:46the logic behind it you want to guarantee you're getting the ball back in that situation i get it
03:52that's fine i don't have a problem with anymore the one i had a problem with a big time was
03:56the fourth
03:57and five and they're going for it rather than taking points that's three points this game was
04:02points are hard to come by in this game and they chose not to uh with the the fee the
04:08field goal
04:09instead they tried to uh to get the first down actually try to get a touchdown and threw to the
04:14back of the end zone jmo made the catch but he was pushed out of bounds unable to stay in
04:19and it's a
04:20failed fourth down conversion dan campbell is always going to be known for his gambling and i accept that
04:25and like you i think it's a it's a net positive for this team and this franchise but it doesn't
04:30mean
04:31that we can't sit back and say well that one i just i just don't like too much you know
04:36i think most
04:36people they would not have gone for it on fourth and two from their own 24 and even if you
04:42talk the
04:42logic in they're probably still not going to do it at least that's what i'm learning today but the
04:47other fourth and five i mean when you start getting beyond a couple of yards and you're talking about
04:52four five six yards for the first down to go in front of fourth i don't like that and it
04:57all of
04:57it depends on the circumstances and that's like third quarter i think when they did that

05:29myself both times and i say that to know that everything in the nfl is so much harder so much

06:29is jake bates i saw jameer gibbs what twice not scoring touchdown and they kept cutting away to jake
06:36bait state on the sidelines and i was just like oh no this is going to come down to this

06:42salesman and uh you know that's a lot of confidence to uh not score a touchdown and leave it to

06:47but he came through and that is just that was awesome to see my champ of the weekend is kyle

07:05uh look at that play call um and i gotta go back and see it the thing that bothered me

07:13angle it looked like if he just handed off i think jordan marshall walks into the end zone i gotta

07:17watch it again um but at the end of the day it just it backfired in in unbelievable fashion um
07:24then bagel was open but the the edge ran free and wasn't fooled at all and you know if tommy
07:32throws it away maybe they go for it on fourth down and they hand it off and score uh but

07:38when you do something out out of the box and it doesn't work uh you subject yourself to the
07:43criticism and it's valid in this case because you know the the game was there to be won and the
07:50the defense you know that josh hoover didn't complete a pass in the second half well they had like 50
07:55yards
07:56and offense in the second half indiana did and he completed a huge they never throw to the tight
08:01ends their tight ends have five receptions all season long first target the in overtime was the
08:06biggest play of overtime yeah i mean that we said go into the game that or at least i said

08:11agreed with it they had two really good running backs a couple of really good receivers and a
08:16quarterback who doesn't make mistakes and they couldn't throw the receivers they couldn't get the
08:20running game going and the quarterback throws his first interception of the year

09:11busy calls lately the last couple weeks i actually tried to call you a couple weeks ago to talk about
09:16you know when dan started going for fourth down again it seemed like more regularly because i was
09:22really upset in the carolina game that he didn't go uh on fourth down when he decided to kick the
09:28field goal i thought that was a turning point in the game weeks ago but i do think that's his
09:34that's his style that's the lion's style that's what changed the culture of this team
09:38and you know fourth when he went fourth and 16 or whatever it was from the 16 year line against
09:43the chiefs opening night a couple years ago i know we're in a different place now but
09:47that's i think that's what's going to help the lions get back to the playoffs and get back to being
09:53who
09:53they are playing like their coach coaches and um so i mean i was a little crazy yesterday i'm talking
10:00about both sides of my mouth but a little crazy going that deep in your own territory but i just

10:06that's who he is and that's what's changed this team and um i think we'll be better for it in

10:11long run and hopefully law of averages but vikings are due for a loss on sunday well i mean look

10:17a couple things you bring up something that is harder to measure and that is dan campbell's overall
10:25demeanor as head coach it does him going for it on fourth down help his team in ways that we
10:34we don't
10:34see like do the guys uh because we ask golf about it a couple we haven't it's been a while
10:40since we've
10:41had a controversial one of these but jim on i remember on tuesday asking golf about the head
10:46coach's aggressiveness in the past and jared golf said we love it we we want to be aggressive we feel
10:54like it gives us the best chance to win like he has endorsed this in the past and does it
11:01help the
11:01team's overall uh you know attitude and swagger um and you know i mean these are hard things to
11:08measure but i when we ask golf about now and maybe golf isn't going to say publicly in his you

11:13i might be reading too much into it maybe he's not going to say publicly yeah i don't know what

11:17hell he's thinking we go out try and execute but holy crap fourth and five let's take the field goal
11:22let's punt here coach i don't think any offensive player is probably wired to say that but
11:27um you know he said it's it's part of this team's makeup and it's been pretty good okay it hasn't
11:34been perfect but i mean it's it's hard not to admit this is like the best era of lions football

11:39our lifetime well for a team that's played like they needed to to score 35 to win every game
11:46they needed 20 yesterday so like obviously dan campbell brought this mindset and attitude and
11:52aggressiveness to this team when he first got here because they were like you know in the dumps
11:55obviously rebuilding and it helped them get to where they are there's no doubt about that
11:59but yesterday's decision on that fourth down call to me was strictly strategic it was absolutely i want
12:05the ball at this point they know what kind of team they are he knows he trusts his offense he

12:10says he trusts his defense also the players know who dan campbell is they know what kind of identity
12:14this team has yesterday's call was strictly i want the ball if if we get the first down we keep

12:20if we don't get the first down we're either conceding three points seven points or zero points
12:25is which what what happened and we we get the ball he wanted to get the ball back yeah they're

12:30the ball back he wanted to end the game with his team having the ball and that's what happened
