00:02gators out stone he's in always an adventure working with mike stone as marv albert used
00:09to say when he used to do the nhl game of the week it's not a job it's an adventure
00:14is that
00:14what he said yeah the navy are you gonna do are you gonna do this all show no i wouldn't
00:19mind
00:21i wouldn't have a voice for tomorrow if i did marv for four hours uh good point one of the
00:25easiest guys to imitate though oh yeah it's marv yeah how you been i've been pretty good yeah up in
00:31your neck of the woods up north last week where um not completely your neck of the woods but that
00:36part right between charlevoix and traverse right around there your spot right yes absolutely how
00:42was it it was good play golf at belvedere which is amazing played there once yeah what i remembered
00:47about it was tiny greens yes and exactly exactly but uh we were up there a couple weeks ago
00:55and it definitely felt a lot more like fall now given i don't know what the temperature's been
01:01like up there recently and down here it's been cooking right um were you getting fall feelings
01:06down there a little bit the weather was okay not great i think it rained maybe one day but
01:12it was fine actually my family from the east coast they enjoyed the fact that it wasn't humid
01:18yeah i can understand that you hear those thunder thunder last day so here's the deal
01:24unbelievable now i don't know if it reached ann arbor but i slept through the whole thing i slept
01:30through the whole thing and never i saw no remnants this morning no until i started getting close to the
01:36station and then i like there were down trees and there were huge puddles everywhere and everybody
01:42everybody here was talking about it but maybe it was bad and i just slept through the whole thing it
01:47was as loud as thunder as i've ever heard and i was up for the the first one and i
01:52thought
01:52my god there's a bomb in the neighborhood or something i i didn't it was so loud and crack
01:57just this loud booming crack and then they went on all through the night and the lightning was
02:03actually fascinating well yeah i i missed out kang did you were you aware at all
02:09oh yeah i was very aware it was very loud yes that's the yeah the storm was like weather
02:15just water would rain whatever hail i didn't get to we got that but it wasn't like ripping out my
02:20trees or anything or the wind it was the loudness of the thunder that yes exactly that's it's eerie
02:26stony you know when you you hear it and you know another one's coming you're like you're like is
02:30what's going on what's happening here what was funny is i was getting home last night i don't know
02:359 30 10 o'clock and i could see lightning coming and then i laid down on the couch and
02:41the next
02:41thing i knew i was out and had no well i slipped into apparently some sort of minor coma i
02:48had to
02:48sleep through this thing but when you fall asleep on the couch do you just is it like the the
02:53head
02:54bob or do you like are you i'm lying down i'll be looking at my phone or ipad and the
03:00next thing i
03:01know oh the show i was watching is half hour past where i remember i have to go back i
03:08woke up
03:09a couple nights ago i fell asleep on the couch i did a lot but i fell asleep on the
03:13couch and i woke
03:14up i'm like i wasn't watching a documentary on john gotty what time is it it was the middle of
03:25the
03:25night is what it was um okay so you were there yesterday when brad holmes addressed the media
03:31correct and ray agnew a little bit and ray agnew yep who was who was at the podium with him
03:37what did
03:37you think of the exchange with burkett uh about the corner spot i thought it was fine i mean i
03:42don't
03:43think it was that contentious so so so to speak i didn't either i um i didn't think it was
03:48i don't
03:49think anybody committed a flagrant one or anything no and i don't think brad actually understood
03:54exactly what dave was asking until later in the in the exchange yeah now i mean i blame myself i
04:02when it comes to terry and arnold my question would have been well who made the decision to cut him
04:10and if it was i wouldn't have said the guy's name i said but if it was one of your
04:14pro ball players
04:15would you have made the same decision but i didn't try to put him in a bind right away if
04:21he were better would you have kept him yeah hysterical um but i didn't so yeah i mean look
04:29i i thought i think sometimes brad gets a little defensive or keeps his receipts and i i i don't
04:35really think he needs to do that this coming from a huge brad bot like i i think brad holmes
04:39is
04:39fantastic but he's not perfect don't get me wrong no he's not and and makes mistakes but i
04:44if you look at the track record of the best organizations in sports all of them make
04:49mistakes you have to make you have to make so you have to the fewer you make the better and
04:54obviously
04:55your job is to you know the the good ones overcome their mistakes like find ways to make up for
05:02their
05:02mistakes and so you know as far as i'm concerned but i like the guy but when he gets defensive
05:09like
05:09that i think it's i think it's a a bit of a bad look it is there's no reason for
05:13him to be
05:14defensive he's the gm we're not we ask questions he hopefully has answers and if he can he can yeah
05:20you know it all goes back to the receipts bro mark a few years ago but right look he early
05:26on his
05:27career here with the lions he was terrific arguably one of the best general managers in football
05:32last couple of years uh not so good but well he's had that one disastrous draft it's ironic that the
05:40one that was in detroit yes is his worst yeah and he's i think the last two drafts have a
05:48lot of
05:48potential still but it's unrealized and until it gets realized um people have the right to uh to
05:55question it but i think the draft from two years ago has a chance to be an important one if
06:02especially
06:03if those two interior linemen one on offense and one on defense reach what phil phil feels like to
06:10me still has a reasonably high ceiling we're talking about tylic williams and tate ratledge right
06:15williams has changed his body and everybody's raving about what he did in the offseason
06:19and ratledge i mean a year of experience and starting playing 17 games right can go a long way
06:26um it's some of the it's kind of like similar to some of the other teams around it it's the
06:32professional player procurement or lack thereof that i think he's really failed yeah we got it we
06:38got an interesting text yesterday from somebody who said that the gator and i too often go to extremes
06:43and and act like people are asking for hall of fame players and it's in it you know i thought
06:49about it a
06:50little bit i'm like it's probably true we probably do because more people get mad about max crosby not
06:55being here or miles garrett not being here and he said this person said all we want is some
07:02competent good to to above average players right i'm like well i i mean there are a couple of
07:09examples amik robertson was pretty good for detroit but he wasn't pretty good but you know and now it's
07:15up to dj want him yeah i mean if he does it yes yes um christian easy and chuck clark
07:22roger mccreary
07:23there's a lot riding on those guys being good yeah um but they're they're unknowns they're
07:29unknowns on the squad last year's team you know it got i think got undermined by injuries i'd like
07:35to see them get some good luck on that on that front it's pretty amazing because if you look at
07:41the
07:41most injured teams in football the lions i think were 31st in terms of man games missed right one
07:46and three were seattle and new england who played in the super bowl and it it it sucks because a
07:53few
07:53years ago you start i started paying attention to who had the most injuries and who had the least
07:57it unfortunately determines a lot of who's standing at the end there's no doubt especially if one unit
08:03is completely destroyed like it was you know a couple years ago with the lions secondary and was with
08:08the safeties last year i mean it's it's it's crazy how important injuries are okay and you asked a
08:18question about injury yeah and your question for brad holmes was what i said with the exception of jamo
08:24it seems that you guys you've acquired guys like levi paschal um marcus davenport pacheco
08:34uh there's probably a couple others with injury histories i i my question was should have been
08:42more succinct but what goes through the mind when you get these guys with an injury background
08:48right and is that what you actually asked or is that what you that's pretty much a succinct version
08:54that's probably the succinct version okay uh do we have that king okay here's you asked that question
09:01and here's what brad holmes said
09:02so
09:44what'd you think of the answer yeah of course guys can get hurt at any time that that's so obvious
09:50my i want to know why what sign them in the first place what goes through your mind is it
09:55because he
09:55can get these guys at a discount because they are often injured yeah and look there are a lot of
10:02players in all sports that you know get injured you know he's so injury prone i hate that expression
10:07but some guys it's true well some guys some guys are are brittle yeah and then and their bodies can't
10:15take the wear and tear of football and some guys just have bad luck right i mean if you not
10:18every
10:19like adrian peterson had that brutal knee injury and came back yes right and so and sometimes players
10:25are only available because they were hurt and you're rolling the dice that you're gonna
10:29hey we can get this guy it's a bit of a risk but it'll be good against the cap because
10:35he won't cost
10:35as much right but you can get burned by it too yeah like with davenport he's having him twice yeah
10:41davenport and and being out of practice you watch marcus davenport walk out onto the field and you go
10:47who is that truck like i was you know thinking he was gonna be a player man if he could
10:55ever stay
10:55healthy and he never really did he got cut again no no one wants to sign a player that's gonna
11:00get
11:00hurt again okay like no one goes hey he looks good he's probably gonna get hurt again let's take him
11:05no one does that what they do is they evaluate whether that person is going to continue to be hurt
11:10if
11:11they were hurt before now if a guy that comes in with no injury history you're like okay he should
11:14be
11:15fine if a guy comes in with one injury or past a history of injuries they have a team i'm
11:20sure a
11:21medical team that goes through evaluation goes through the physical all that stuff says what
11:25are the chances he's going to continue to get hurt and then they take they take the chance they take
11:30their risk based on that and if they take that player they clearly think i don't care what team
11:34it is whether it's the lions or the cowboys or bears whoever they clearly think okay we can deal
11:39with the possibility he might get hurt but we don't think it's going to happen and they take the risk
11:43it wherever it is okay speaking of injured players one of our teams at this hour just made an
11:50announcement regarding an injured player and i want to get your two cents on it we will get to that
11:54today at 10 18 here on carson anderson on 97.1
