Chapter nineteen of CONCRETE CORE ERA, and the first entry in which a crowd appears.
The structure is a wall of residential towers, mountain-sized, set edge-on to a low sun. The lit face reads gold — but that's the light, not the material; the shadow side is the same grey as every other structure in the series. What makes it extraordinary is purely the hour it was recorded at.
In front of it, spread along a ridge, roughly forty figures. Standing. Facing it. No equipment, no vehicles, no fire, no shelter, and no movement beyond a few metres across the entire recording.
They aren't using the building. There's no entrance in this view and nothing that would make an approach purposeful. They came to look, and that's the whole activity — which is either a ritual, a habit, or simply somewhere to go at the end of the day.
For viewers interested in brutalism, megastructures, liminal spaces, monumental architecture and quiet dystopian worldbuilding: this is the emotional high point of the series, and it's built entirely out of scale and light.
