A major political row has erupted in Karnataka after an IPS officer stopped three Dalit ministers from accompanying the Chief Minister during the Nandidhvaja puja at the Mysuru Dasara celebrations. Ministers Narendra Swami, Basanthappa, and Shivaraj Tangadagi were walking towards the puja before the elephant procession when the officer intervened. An inquiry has been directed through the Chief Secretary to examine whether protocol was followed or specific instructions were issued, while the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party accused the Congress government of being anti-Dalit. Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam targeted Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief and Chief Minister Joseph C. Vijay over Hindi and English badges worn during Police Commemoration Day, questioning the state's two-language policy. Additionally, remarks by TVK minister K.A. Sengottaiyan regarding former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader C. Vijayabaskar entering the electoral fray in the Virugambakkam constituency triggered further political controversy.

00:03Namaskara, good afternoon and a big welcome to India Today's SoSouth, where we get you the news that dominates the
00:08south and the flavor of the south each day over the next 30 minutes also. Let's kick start the bulletin
00:13with no delay as such. News coming in from Tamil Nadu and Pramod Madhav, we'll take it from here.
00:27Thank you Nagar Chintu, Alaknath, from the state of Tamil Nadu, the first stories about Hindi imposition.
00:32It is a kind of question mark and a kind of criticism that is being put forward by the DMK
00:36over a badge that was worn on the police flag day.
00:40Yesterday it was police commemoration day, the police flag day as well and the Chief Minister Vijay was present over
00:46there with the Tamil Nadu DGP.
00:47However, DMK has highlighted a kind of a badge over there showing that the two languages were present.
00:53One is English and the other one is Hindi and now the DMK is in a kind of way criticizing,
00:58sarcastically asking whether is this about two language?
01:02Has the DVK confused it to be Hindi and English instead of Tamil and English?
01:08Aparovad Jayeshadran is live with us. Aparovad, this seems to be kind of harsh criticism but what exactly happened over
01:13there and what was the badge actually saying?
01:18Well, in fact, this was during the police commemoration day celebrations that took place here in Chennai.
01:25In fact, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Srivijay also participated in this and in particular the DMK has taken
01:31up this issue wherein they have taken up this badge there which showed the names and the words written there
01:39just in Hindi and English.
01:40We are taking this as a jibe at the TVK government. The DMK has hit out questioning if the Tamil
01:45Nadu Chief Minister and TVK's chief Joseph Srivijay has gone ahead and forgotten that Tamil is the state language for
01:53Tamil Nadu.
01:53In fact, the DMK has also hit out at the TVK government questioning that there is hardly any Tamil left
01:59in Tamil Nadu anymore.
02:00Has the two language policy been reinforced wherein it has been confused that the two language that is followed in
02:07Tamil Nadu is English and Hindi whereas it is supposed to be in Tamil?
02:12And there is a lot of questions that the DMK has gone ahead and raised on this issue.
02:16In fact, this is not the first time that the DMK has raised yet another such questioning regarding the alleged
02:22Hindi imposition.
02:23In fact, the DMK in this particular post that it has taken up on Platform X has gone ahead and
02:29called out the TVK government questioning why it is that these particular badges were taken up in Hindi and English
02:37when it is the state language and two language policy that Tamil Nadu follows which is Tamil and English.
02:45Well, this is a very big claim by DMK over here and the important aspect is that the actual police
02:50department comes under the chief minister.
02:52Probably, it is a reason actually DMK wants to raise it, you know, mocking the chief minister on this particular
02:56matter.
02:57We are still waiting for a response from the TVK government on this particular matter.
03:01Apurva requests to stay back as we have another breaking now.
03:12Well, we have the minister from TVK, Ka Sengotian, the revenue minister once again with a claim.
03:18Sengotian was speaking in Virali Malay constituency in front of every other TVK carer over there and the important aspect,
03:24he said that C. Vijay Bhaskar, the person who was from AIDMK, who won from AIDMK but joined TVK will
03:32be the one who will be entering the field now and he will win.
03:35And of course, he, accepting Talabadi, will be leading others in up front.
03:40So, this is kind of turning into a huge issue currently considering C. Vijay Bhaskar is considered as a turncoat
03:45by AIDMK.
03:46Like I said, back in May, Vijay Bhaskar won in 2026 Assembly Elections, Aweba.
03:50Then he resigned and joined the TVK and the big question that is being put forward by the opposition, be
03:56it DMK or AIDMK, whether is it horse trading and now Sengotian's statement once again has rigged up this controversy.
04:04Sengotian tries to give an explanation stating that he did not mean like that.
04:07He only said that Vijay Bhaskar, knowing the field, will be the one who will be on the field.
04:12However, this is not the first time Sengotian is ending up for his comments.
04:15What happened earlier is that he said that soon 15 more will come from AIDMK and as it backfired, he
04:20said that he was not talking about the MLAs, but only people from AIDMK.
04:24And now, Viralimale constituency, which is open for Bipol, Sengotian says Vijay Bhaskar will be on the field, which is
04:31again turning out to be a huge issue.
04:33Here's what Sengotian said.
04:57Sengotian says,
05:20Well, Sengotian is considered as a beast more of TBK Sengotian, a seriously like veteran Neta, but Sengotian will have
05:26differently provide explanations.
05:29These are the stories from the state of Tamil Nadu.
05:31Moving on to the stories of Karnataka, let's go back to Raga Arjun Dwarakman.
05:43And the first story from Karnataka is of the big Dasarak controversy.
05:47Remember, just 24 hours ago, the Nada Habba or the state festival of Dasarak in Mysore was celebrated with grand
05:53celebrations from the Karnataka government.
05:56And during which, three Dalit ministers were stopped while they were walking with the chief minister while offering puja to
06:02the Nandidwaja.
06:03And that's the series of events.
06:05Before the ambari happens or the howdah of the Chamundeshwari sits or placed on the elephant, the ministers offer puja
06:11at Nandidwaj.
06:12The visuals, as you can see, an IPS officer stops three ministers, Narendra Swamy, Basant Appa and Shivras Tangadgi, as
06:20they're walking with the chief minister.
06:21And now, the chief minister has ordered an inquiry and told the chief secretary to look into this as to
06:26who instructed this IPS officer to, in fact, stop the cabinet ministers.
06:31Sources within the department say that, as per protocol, the officer was acting and he was not instructed by anyone.
06:37And now, the BJP has latched on to this saying, Congress is an anti-Dalit party.
06:41Look at the way how the Dalit ministers have been stopped.
06:45And it's a big insult, not just to the Karnataka government, but also to the Dalit community.
06:50Listen to the reactions on the story.
07:47The minister is a minister.
07:49Because they are all Dalit ministers, maybe the anti-Dalit Congress party must have stopped them.
07:59Otherwise, Mr. Honorable D.K. Shukumar must disclose what is the matter, instructions, who are given the instructions and all.
08:15You should apologize.
08:17Otherwise, you should immediately suspend the senior officer who stopped them.
08:27Joining me right now is Sagai Raj from Bengaluru right now on this.
08:30Sagai, the chief minister has ordered an inquiry, but what happened exactly there?
08:35It's very rare that an IPS officer who's working with the state government can't recognize the cabinet ministers.
08:40Or did he recognize and stop deliberately because there's certain protocol that the IPS officer was, in fact, following?
08:47What is the action that the chief secretary is now going to take?
08:54Karnataka chief minister D.K. Shukumar has instructed the chief secretary to take necessary action against this IPS officer.
09:01So far, the IPS officers have not given a clarification why he has stopped these cabinet ministers.
09:06Because they are the face of Karnataka, they are cabinet ministers, and there were three ministers who were accompanying Karnataka
09:13chief minister.
09:14Even Basantappa, who have spoken to the media, has categorically mentioned that if at all there was a protocol, they
09:20should have informed us.
09:21They shouldn't have stopped us.
09:22And even if you notice that when the incident happened, D.K. Shukumar, the chief minister,
09:26who have noticed this particular behavior from the IPS officer,
09:30immediately asked him to allow the cabinet minister to join with him for that Nandipuja,
09:36and he said that he cannot stop them.
09:38And now the ministers themselves say that probably he is not aware about the protocol,
09:43and they also claim that they were not informed about following any certain protocol
09:48that only the chief ministers allow and not the cabinet minister.
09:51Chief minister has escalated the issue and instructs the chief secretary to take necessary action against the IPS officer.
10:02Right, Sagai. Thank you for bringing us the latest updates as well.
