A major political row has broken out in Tamil Nadu ahead of the October 6 by-polls. Chief Minister Vijay condemned derogatory comments made against women politicians, asserting that insults against mothers and sisters will not be tolerated, even as attacks on him personally would be borne. The remarks follow controversy over body-shaming comments allegedly made by former Chief Minister MK Stalin against the TVK Dharapuram candidate, Sathya Maama. Chief Minister Vijay also dismissed criticisms regarding visiting constituencies only during elections during his roadshow in Dharapuram. Meanwhile, tensions heightened as AIADMK cadres held a sit-in outside the Dharapuram Police Station protesting the detention of rural district secretary Selvakumar.
