Tinnitus and blood sugar: what an Egyptian study of 60 older adults found.

Ringing in the ears may be tied to insulin resistance. Your inner ear burns a lot of fuel, which makes it sensitive to high blood sugar and high insulin. In this study, adults with metabolic syndrome walked on a treadmill and ate less for 12 weeks. Their tinnitus score dropped from about 7 out of 10 to under 5, about a third better. Waist size, blood sugar, triglycerides and blood pressure improved too. The control group saw no change.
