00:00While recently playing 1985 Atari arcade video game Paperboy,
00:06I thought I spotted a couple references for movies starring actor Tom Hanks,
00:13both past and future.
00:14I looked into this, and I must say, pretty impressive connections between Hanks and the actual game.
00:21In 1987, Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks appeared in Buddy Cop, the slapstick comedy film Dragnet.
00:30Dan Aykroyd, known for Ghostbusters, was later in 2015 sci-fi comedy Pixels, directed by Chris Columbus.
00:41This cast featured Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Peter Dinklage, Sean Bean, and Max Frewer cameos as Max Hedrum.
00:50So the story of Pixels is like an alien invasion scenario.
00:56The aliens have modeled themselves own popular video game characters, stretching back to the 1980s.
01:03They're cameos by many popular game characters.
01:08Paperboy was among these.
01:09Surprisingly, a future Easter egg to British science fiction series Doctor Who may appear in Paperboy.
01:18As the game gets harder, one new enemy you'll encounter seems harmless at first.
01:25It looks like a statue of a man.
01:27However, when you pass by, the statue comes to life, apparently as a werewolf or some kind of monster,
01:34and it chases after the player on the bicycle.
01:38I'd seen this kind of thing before in episode 10 of the third series of Doctor Who,
01:45entitled Blink.
01:47This was broadcast in 2007 with David Tennant as the 10th Doctor,
01:53companion, Freema Agumon, Martha Jones.
01:56Notably, actress Carrie Mulligan has an early role in this as Sally Sparrow.
02:04Great writing and a fan favorite story by Stephen Moffat.
02:09The weeping angels are very much like I just described.
02:14When you're in their presence, you have to keep your eyes open and watch them.
02:18If you even blink, let's just say bad things can happen.
02:22So connections.
02:23Building on the intro,
02:24Both Tom Hanks and Mulligan were guests on Season 28, Episode 27 of the American Chat Program,
02:35Live with Kelly and Mark, broadcast in 2015.
02:39But beyond this, I'll point out The Great Gatsby in 2013, directed by Baz Luhrmann.
02:46Carrie Mulligan plays Daisy Buchanan in this,
02:49And also in the cast, you'll find Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire.
02:55Director Luhrmann also worked with Tom Hanks on the Elvis biopic drama in 2022.
03:03Leonardo DiCaprio also acted together with Tom Hanks,
03:08Steven Spielberg's 2002 biographical black comedy crime film Catch Me If You Can.
03:15Dan Aykroyd, also known for Ghostbusters in 84.
03:19Actress Karen Gillan played Amy Pond in the Doctor Who TV series.
03:25Also had some experience in encounters with the Weeping Angels.
03:29The link here can be seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe of movies.
03:34Karen Gillan was a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy team.
03:38Paul Rudd, he plays Gary Gruberson, introduced in Ghostbusters Afterlife in 2021.
03:45He played a comic book superhero, Ant-Man, in the Marvel movies, and Chris Hemsworth.
03:52He played Kevin in the all-female Ghostbusters reboot movie in 2016,
04:00starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon.
04:04He was Marvel's Thor in movies from 2011.
04:08You can see Gillan, Hemsworth, and Rudd in Avengers Endgame in 2019.
