00:00So what happens in a lockout?
00:02People, we say lockout all the time.
00:04It stops all trades and free agent signings, okay?
00:06Everything.
00:07So everything stops.
00:08The business of baseball stops.
00:11It's actually funny.
00:12Shohei Otani would actually lose $374,000 per day
00:17if there's a work stoppage.
00:19Just putting that out there.
00:23That's gambling money.
00:24I was going to say.
00:25Well, listen, the way he was playing, maybe he was.
00:28Maybe people were onto something.
00:29So any case, how long do you think that?
00:33I think there is going to be a lockout.
00:34I think that's inevitable.
00:36How long do you think this is going to last?
00:38Totally depends on the players.
00:41In my opinion, I think the players are going to cave
00:44because if I'm on the lower end, if I'm the $700,000 guy,
00:48if I'm the $5 million guy, there are more of those
00:50than there are the $700 million guy, the $500 million guy.
00:54And that's how we got here.
00:55If you put together the amount of players on the Reds,
00:59the Royals, the Pirates, the Rockies,
01:05these low-budget teams,
01:07those are the guys voting on whether or not I want to fight
01:11for Bryce Harper to make $500 million.
01:14Those are the guys fighting for I want to make sure Aaron Judge
01:17makes his $500 million.
01:20Oh, my little $2 million, my little $5 million.
01:24No, no, no, don't worry about me.
01:25Those are the people who will have a larger vote at the end of the day
01:30because it's more of them.
01:32And those are the guys who cannot afford to miss five weeks,
01:36seven weeks, eight months.
01:38They can't afford that.
01:40When those checks stop, a lot of these guys live lavish lifestyles.
01:44A lot of these guys, because baseball money is not like football money.
01:48It's like basketball money.
01:49Once you sign it, you're going to get it no matter what,
01:53unless there's a lockout.
01:55And I don't think that these guys plan for this.
01:58A lot of guys spend this money because they come from, you know,
02:01impoverished backgrounds.
02:02And this is the first opportunity that their family name
02:06has some money behind it.
02:07And so they take care of people.
02:09They put people up in houses.
02:11You know, they got to buy Birkenbacks.
02:12You know, he's got a lot of these dudes are spending this money
02:16in places where they can't turn the faucet off.
02:20Bryce Harper, he got money on top of money.
02:23Kyle Schwarber, you know, the Kyle Tuckers of the world,
02:26these guys have money.
02:27Hey, Xander Bogarts.
02:28Xander Bogarts got more money than he know what to do with.
02:32Manny Machado got more money than he know what to do with.
02:34Jackson Merrill too now.
02:36Jackson Merrill, Fernando Ortiz Jr., Jake Cronenworth,
02:40you know, Joe Musgrove.
02:41Oh, they got enough money.
02:45But there is not enough of them to outweigh and overrule the guys underneath them.
02:51That's who this fight is about, giving guys at the bottom more money.
02:55And that's why I think you're going to get the salary cap.
02:58Yeah, I just, you know, people are saying,
03:02well, we're not going to have a full 2027 season.
03:04I think we're going to play in 2027.
03:08But I don't think it's going to be like 100.
03:10It's not going to be like, oh, we did it right after spring training.
03:13Let's start.
03:13It's going to be 162 games.
03:15Because Major League Baseball already proposed cutting the regular season schedule
03:19from 162 to 154 just last week.
03:24And also part of that proposal is higher seeds in the playoffs get to choose their opponents
03:30and division series would expand to seven games.
03:33What do you think of that, by the way?
03:34I love that.
03:35I love that.
03:36I actually like it.
03:37People are like, what?
03:38How dare you?
03:39You can't do that.
03:39I love it.
03:41Can you imagine the Dodgers being like, give me the Padres?
03:45Oh, I don't think they would, by the way.
03:47No, no, but I'm saying, can you imagine the Yankees being like, yeah, give me the Red Sox?
03:53Can you imagine the energy in that series if the Cubs can go, yeah, give me the Cardinals?
04:00Buddy, the fire that's coming to your town?
04:04Because, oh, this is what you wanted, huh?
04:06Come get it there.
04:07You wanted us.
04:08You wanted us.
04:10I think that's brilliant.
04:11But once this lockout ends, because all lockouts eventually end,
04:15they're going to need something, like what happened after the steroid there
04:18where chicks dig the long ball and all this other stuff.
04:21They're going to need some type of gimmick,
04:23or they're going to need some type of adjustment to the game to bring fans back.
04:26Because fans always vacate when a lockout happens,
04:29because they hate to see rich people fighting other rich people.
04:32At a time where gas is $6, $10 in some places in Los Angeles,
04:37food is higher than it's ever been,
04:39inflation is sky high,
04:40and the last thing people want to see is rich guys arguing about
04:43millions upon millions of dollars.
04:46Yeah, so just some other hits here.
04:50The Dodgers paid more in luxury tax than some teams pay in total payroll.
04:54Yes, that has to end.
04:57You know, a cap really doesn't guarantee parity either.
05:00You know, like a floor will matter more.
05:02Like you said earlier, a floor will matter way more.
05:07The floor is more important than the cap.
05:08I agree with you.
05:09Like you said, 17 teams under that floor.
05:15I think that would raise the level of competitiveness too,
05:18because more teams would be in the pool for players,
05:21and you would know that you're getting more money from those teams.
05:24It wouldn't be like, oh, why would I go to the Pirates?
05:26You know, they're not going to pay me.
05:27Well, now they can.
