00:00So let's get to some of the offseason news here.
00:03Obviously, the labor talks are going to be front and center here with all the conversation going on.
00:09Between the union and the league, where are we, do you think, when it comes to this lockout?
00:14And is there any progress being made?
00:18There's progress on little things, but not the core economic things.
00:22You know, the union likes some of the things that MLB is proposing, the 154 game schedule they like,
00:28reducing pre-agency for guys who are 30 and older, more money for the younger guys,
00:34the minimum salary is going up, you know, they went higher.
00:37But everything's still attached to a cap.
00:39You know, right now, Major League Baseball says, okay, we'll delay the cap by year,
00:43but that's not really moving the needle.
00:45But you talk to both sides, they don't think that they'll get real serious negotiations on this
00:50until right before spring training in February.
00:53Do you think, when you look at that salary cap conversation,
00:57that's what makes the NFL, Bob.
00:59I mean, you're only as weak as the weakest team in the NFL,
01:03and that's what keeps that salary cap in the league continuing to go up each year
01:07when it comes to revenue.
01:08Are you a fan of the cap?
01:10Do you think it's needed in Major League Baseball?
01:13Or do you think that that's something that's just absolutely a pipe dream
01:16and the union would never go for it?
01:20Yeah.
01:20I'm not sure how well it would work.
01:22I mean, here's the Yankees, all their money.
01:25They haven't been to have a wonderful service since 2009.
01:30You know, yeah, the Dodgers won the earth rate.
01:33But you look at some of the big markets, they're not doing much.
01:36And what the brewers in Tampa Bay just did is like, wait a minute now.
01:40You don't have to have the massive payrolls to compete.
01:42So I think there's more parity than they let on.
01:45Yeah, do you have a better chance to win if you have more money?
01:49You do.
01:50But I think as the Brewers and Rays and Cleveland showed, you know,
01:54if you have a smartphone office, you know what you're doing,
01:57you can compete no matter what your money is.
02:00But the money does hide mistakes.
02:03You know, like the Dodgers, you know, Edwin Diaz, you know, struggled all year.
02:08You know, they're able to cover his up with money.
02:11Same with Kyle Tucker making $60 million a year.
02:14So if those things happen with a smaller market team, then they'd be, you know,
02:18they'd be cooked for the year.
