00:00there's some major changes coming to major league baseball do you feel that as they get into these
00:05talks now with the players union and with the owners well yeah i mean they certainly still
00:10want that salary cap and they're offering all kinds of stuff you know the last was 154 game
00:15schedule which is what the unions wanted for years but before as always the owners said okay
00:21yeah are you willing to take off uh you know eight games off your salary no they want to do
00:26that
00:26well now they're saying okay you'll get paid the same amount of money everything will be pro-rated
00:31too and the bonuses so the players love that uh every every week you get monday off you don't have
00:37that monday off you get a thursday off keep guys more fresh so the union loves that but everything
00:43is tied to that salary cap so that's why they're making some you know great offers and they never
00:49would have done that before and remember now with the salary cap too that comes in teams like the
00:54temperament race will have the same amount of tv money as the yankees how about this though when
01:00how about the floor in the conversation there was supposed to be a conversation about 174 million
01:07floor if i'm wrong with that number correct me but the race have never spent north of 130 million
01:15how are they going to get to 174 now you're saying with the collective of having all the tv deals
01:20put
01:21together that that would be able to push them up and give them more opportunities to hit that floor do
01:27you think there'll be a floor in the ceiling when we're talking about the salary cap oh yeah if salary
01:33caps comes in they definitely have to have a floor uh you know you don't want this money going to
01:38owner's
01:38pockets uh you want to spend in the players so yeah teams like the rays marlins uh you know brewers
01:45cleveland you're gonna have to spend money and uh you know it's gonna be a gradual effect you can't
01:51have the you know dodgers say okay you gotta start dumping some of your big time contracts you can't
01:56tell the marlins rays hey you better spend 50 million extra one year so it'll be uh you know pro
02:02every
02:03year that that thing will go up as far as how much money you have to spend um so yeah
02:09i i think it'll be
02:10you know great then for for teams to have to spend money because you have the players union and
02:16players are getting so upset in the big market teams like teams like pittsburgh it's like you know
02:21we're giving you all this money through revenue sharing and licensing you know spend the money we
02:26don't want to see your bank account grow you'll get better players how about this bob do you think
02:31that major league baseball owners want to take the model of the national football league now because
02:35that's what this sounds like you're only as strong as your weakest links and that means your teams
02:40the bottom 10 teams that that's why they flip the draft they get easier schedule because again
02:47this creates parity doesn't it so that those teams like the reds back in the day the pirates as we
02:53were
02:53talking there i mean this gives them an opportunity to compete on markets when going out for players now
02:59right so it's really trying to get parity back in baseball oh absolutely that is the role model of
03:06nfl every baseball model is how much money they make i mean even uh the nba with that huge tv
03:11contract
03:12was like 12 billion bucks something like that but you're right and that's what baseball talks about
03:17it's like the same city the same parking lot or the royals and the chiefs the chiefs can run a
03:22dynasty
03:23there and win three world series and you know and three circles and like five year period where that just
03:28can't happen uh across a parking lot with the royals so they they do want they would love to be
03:34uh
03:34something similar to it with the enterprise no question about it boy that would be interesting
03:40to see and it sounds to me bob like it's the dodger rule let's get this deal going here because
03:47the
03:47dodgers are making so much money here that they want to have parity back in the game because the dodgers
03:52have dominated obviously with the payroll here and what they've been able to do bob nightingale has
03:58the brewers and seven brewers and rays i bet new york's really proud of you bob
