00:00On a Tuesday. Thanks for getting up with us. Jim Costa, John Jansen, Heather Park, Gov and Greg behind the
00:05glass. Tuesdays mean two grand slam a chance to win some money with us. Plus we'll have Red Wing tickets
00:10and a chance to see Michigan State, Arkansas, their duel at Little Caesars Arena. Going to be a great showdown
00:17in the month of November. Lots of giveaways, lots of fun. And a day we get into a bunch of
00:21college football. Michigan sticking with Bryce and Pat Fitzgerald's mother is rolling in her grave.
00:28All of that and more. John, good morning. Good morning. How's your Tuesday morning starting off? Good. Yeah? Yeah. It's
00:35a little warmer this morning. A little steamy outside for this time of year. Makes Heather feel good. Doesn't have
00:40to freeze. It does. Yeah. Okay. I mean, I don't want it to be 80 degrees in October. Well, it's
00:46going to be today. I know. Soak it up. It's probably the last one. But yeah, well, it's a Tuesday
00:53and we're off and running. Monday Night Football last night. Did you watch? Yes, of course.
00:57Okay. And your thoughts on the Rams taking another L? I got two and three already, right? And I think
01:03pre-show we were like, oh, are they in trouble? And I told you, just take a peek at their
01:06upcoming schedule. Oh, you mean it wasn't a must win for them? No, I don't think so. Their upcoming schedule
01:11is going to give them a chance to rebound from a slow start. The Rams are going to play the
01:15Cardinals twice in their next five games. Now, I know beating the Cardinals doesn't mean anything. Hopefully they beat them
01:19by, you know, three, four scores. At least. Or else their Super Bowl aspirations are out the window. Yeah. So
01:26they'll play the Cardinals.
01:27Cardinals, Raiders, Chargers, Commanders, and Cardinals again. Those are their next five games. Should win it. You'd take four and
01:33one, right? So no reason to panic for the Rams.
01:36I would think so, but there's some things that they obviously need fixed, and they may be faced with an
01:44issue. Obviously, they're going to have to get their special teams fixed. That was a disaster last night.
01:49Got a gift of a fumble and couldn't cash in.
01:52And then their left tackle, Alaric Jackson, decided, and I don't know how far or how long after the game
02:01this was, but there was some jerseys being exchanged on the field.
02:05As you do.
02:05Yeah, and not between Alaric Jackson and Bradley Chubb, but they did meet face-to-face at one point, and
02:13Alaric Jackson decided to punch Bradley Chubb in the face.
02:17Yes. So I'm guessing on the heels of the Dre Greenlaw suspension that happened, that came down yesterday for the
02:27incident that happened on Sunday, a punching of an opponent's player during a game.
02:32Um, I would assume that he'll be suspended for at least one game. That's what Dre Greenlaw got. Now, there
02:40is a complicating factor because this past summer, he was charged with alleged domestic violence.
02:48Oh, it was pled down, and he, it sounds like it was being reported that he was, uh, agreed to
02:56a pre-filing diversion program.
02:59Okay.
03:00Normally, and apparently the NFL investigation is still ongoing, when that happens, it is customary, it would trigger a baseline
03:08suspension of a minimum of six games.
03:13So, I don't know if this is the time where the NFL says, well, you're suspended a game, and we're
03:20going to give you, you know, another five. You can, you can serve these concurrently.
03:24Like, I don't know what happened. I've watched the video. Um, I didn't catch it last night. I saw it
03:28this morning.
03:29I'm not sure why it, he even swung at him. Like, this is the, the happy, fun time exchange jerseys.
03:36We're not enemies anymore. Why, why?
03:38I am guessing he said some, Bradley Chubb said something that a lyric Jackson didn't like.
03:44Did he think Bradley Chubb was his spouse? Like, I'm really confused. I don't know. I mean, apparently he has
03:48some impulse control.
03:49Well, unfortunately, he's not gambling on games. You know, I mean, like, let's, let's not worry about the domestic issues
03:55and any suspensions or addressing those with any, um, in a timely manner.
03:59But let's go ahead and, and, you know, let's just see how this plays out throughout the course of the
04:05year. It's not surprising that this would happen. It's not his first incident.
04:08No, these are starting left tackle. So, um, but they, they didn't do that when you played, right? The Jersey
04:13exchange.
04:14No, no. How, how would you have handled? I'm not saying you would punch people. I'm just curious.
04:21I realized there's a mask. Normally the Jersey exchange happens between friends, uh, or somebody that you greatly respect.
04:27Was there a player that you would have liked to do a Jersey trade with? No, probably not. Um, no
04:33defensive lineman you respected or linebacker.
04:35No, I might've exchanged jerseys with, and they're, they're actually, they're showing it right now.
04:41Apparently there was, uh, something said by Bradley Chubb, um, that Alaric Jackson did not like. Um, but,
04:49uh, in terms of the Jersey exchange, I would have like with Bacchus or with Hutch or with some former
04:55teammates, I would have maybe exchanged jerseys, but like, I've, I think I've, maybe I've only addressed
05:00this when Stoney was on the program. I wasn't a handshake guy. The handshakes for me would have
05:06happened after things had cooled down. You've gotten back in the, because your locker rooms aren't far
05:13away. You see all the guys after you walk out. And so, you know, a lot of times I'd walk
05:18over to the
05:19other team buses and I would talk to, you know, Hey, nice job. Great game. Blah, blah, blah.
05:23Are you not a fan of the on field fluff after games and sports right now? Uh, no, I'm not
05:29either.
05:30I mean, it's probably not shocking to anyone that I would not be for the post game fluff. I have
05:38a
05:38hard time. And for three and a half hours, I'm trying to rip your head off. I'm going to be
05:43as
05:43violent as I possibly can be because during football, that's fun. I don't have the ability
05:50within the matter of two or three seconds or five minutes to just turn that off.
05:55Exactly. How would you be Jim? Would you be somebody that would be cordial right after a game?
06:00No, I don't think that's in your nature. If you're a competitor to instantly flip that
06:05switch. Me neither. I, it would have to be, you know, in this either at the buses, like
06:09John said, or in the stadium corridors behind after you've gone through media after you've
06:15showered all that stuff. Well, and even the media, like they give you, I can't remember
06:19what it is. If it's like 15 minutes after the game before the media can even come in the
06:23locker room. And it's a time for you to gather your thoughts, take a few deep breaths and calm
06:30down, let your adrenaline calm down. So you can address them and not treat them like they're
06:35your, like they're your opponent. So yeah, the, the online fluff and the hugging and it's
06:42just a bit much for me.
06:45This started with the NBA. Yes. That's how I remember it anyway. I don't believe it was
06:50early two thousands. And then it just has sprinkled into other sports. Not really hockey. They
06:56kind of go their separate ways. Although they do the handshake at the end of a series.
06:59Yes. Yeah. Yeah. No, it's just not for me. Yeah. Well, there you have it on campus coming
07:08up at 635. We'll dive deeper into the week that was in college football and the week ahead.
07:13Greg's got some big college football questions. We got one question answered yesterday. Bryce
07:18Underwood going to stay the starter at Michigan. I have one very thought provoking question.
07:23Why? Okay. So I asked that question to Kyle Whittingham yesterday. And he said, it's a simple
07:32answer. You ask one question. I'm going to, I'm going to ask a question, answer a question
07:36with a question. He says, who gives you the best chance to win the game? The player who
07:42can read defenses and throw the football. Okay. You can answer, you can answer that however
07:46you want. Yes. That's not how Kyle Whittingham answered the question. And he said right now,
07:52Tommy Carr is a freshman. He's still learning. He's still developing. And they believe that
07:59Bryce Underwood gives them the best chance, even though he's a turnover, just in the big
08:0510, they rank in terms of yards per game. Don't look, you may know the answer to this.
08:11I don't know. Where do you think they rank in just in the big 10? Because the number
08:16is too big to go, you know, nationally. So let's just keep it to 18 teams. I was just
08:20going to remind everyone there's yards per game. Yep. Uh, they're definitely the bottom
08:24half, probably the bottom third. I'm going to throw a dart and say 15th. Um, you are too
08:29generous. They rank in yards per game, 17 out of 18. Now just for fun, who's 18?
08:40I don't know. Michigan state. Yes. Oh no. So more on them later in the hour. And where
08:47do you think Michigan would rank in points per game? It's still not very good. I don't
08:52know. 15 or 16. No, you're still too generous. 17 of 18. Guess who ranks 18? Michigan state.
08:58Wow. Um, and in terms of passing yards per game, I know this. Is it 17? No, 18.
09:06Yeah. Get in your two. Come on.
09:13And they're sticking with this guy. Uh huh. Five touchdowns, four interceptions.
09:17Throwing his three fumbles. I don't know how you can in good faith say this is the
09:21guy that helps us win games. He is their second leading rusher because they've
09:25had a dominant rush game. Right. Um, and it's got two, two, uh, two touchdowns. There's
09:31he's got a 59.3% completion percentage. So I give you these numbers. We're having a
09:36little fun with it because, um, I, okay. Newsflash. It's not been great offensively
09:42for Michigan. And I also know that it doesn't matter the program. If things aren't
09:49going well, the most popular person among the fan base is the backup quarterback.
09:55I don't know if Tommy would be any better, but I do believe as we had talked about, you
10:03know, in terms of the lions defense, it can't be worse. Right. So do you try something
10:12different? Because let's take a look at the schedule. You're currently three and two.
10:17You got a gift from the football gods to have three wins. You got two losses and they
10:24currently on the remainder of their schedule have Indiana. They have a trip to Oregon and
10:32a trip to Columbus. Can't lose any of them. I mean, that's just the reality. You, you, you
10:41can't lose any of them. Yeah. If you want to, I think you're probably going, that's my
10:44point. Okay. So the season's over. It's over. Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop. You went
10:51into this with the assumption that they're a playoff team. No, that's my point. No. Okay.
10:55Well, why are we, nobody's thinking that who prepares Michigan best for the 27 season?
11:01Okay. That's the question. Okay. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. That ship has sailed. Great.
11:07I'm on the same page as you. If they don't win any of those games that puts them with their
11:14current wide record at three and five, that gets five losses. Yeah. Now they
11:19have the game against UCLA once look like it might be easy, look like it might be
11:25hard. Now, depending on what they do with their quarterback. All right. And Nico
11:31Iamaliava crushed it is questionable for the rest of the season. That's the second to
11:39the last game. That one, if they were to drop that one puts them at six losses. Wow. So
11:46now you're looking at the Michigan state game, the Penn state game and the Rutgers game.
11:53All three of those are must win games because it goes back to the conversation that we had
11:59about what is a must win game. Well, if it eliminates, eliminates you from post season
12:03competition. It is by definition, a must win game. So this week against Penn state
12:10is a must win game. If you make some of those assumptions, I don't think you're wrong to connect
12:16those dots. Um, okay. Then if you have to win games, I don't want to play the turnover prone
12:22quarterback who doesn't process and read defenses, who has shown himself poor in multiple big 10
12:28games. You had the bye week to get Tommy car ready. If he's not ready, what the hell were you
12:33doing? And by the way, reading in some of the quotes, Tommy did get a healthy dose of the reps
12:38during the bye week said nothing to see here, nothing out of the ordinary, but winning him
12:42didn't rule out that Tommy car would have a series or two against Penn state. So what are we doing
12:47here? Convincing ourselves that Bryce is the guy, you know, even the quotes about him. He's six,
12:53four, two 30 runs like the wind. At no point did he say plays quarterback. Well,
13:00anyway, Michigan fans, we'll start there. We'll get to Michigan state end of the hour.
13:03It's 97 one.
