00:00I want to talk a little U of M for a minute.
00:01That was a really nice win for them.
00:04But I want to offer you something because I do want to find some common ground
00:11because I get tired of feeling like I'm being gaslit.
00:15I think I understand the reason why.
00:18And it would start with the following.
00:21And Rico, I ran this by you, so just work with me for a second.
00:24Do you guys understand as fans the definition of pandering?
00:30Do you understand what the act of pandering is?
00:33And this is a problem we have in media.
00:38The definition is this, straight from the old encyclopedia dictionary.
00:44Saying or doing what an audience wants to hear just to win favor, support, or votes
00:50rather than sharing true beliefs.
00:53Full stop.
00:56As the game ended Saturday, in talking with Rico and Rieger and Cookies
01:01in a little group chat we have, I began to feel like I was watching a different game
01:09because the pandering media is telling you what you want to hear
01:15versus what I have to believe in my heart
01:19they know is not true.
01:22Michigan won that game because their defense was incredible.
01:26They put John Mateer in jail.
01:30The first thing that comes out, and again, Gus Johnson, another moron,
01:36he panders to the audience, Bryce, silence his hater.
01:41Sir, this is Wendy's.
01:43And your quarterback completed nine passes.
01:46In fact, that coaching staff has now openly admitted
01:52they had a terrible game plan week one
01:54because that game plan was asking him to play quarterback.
01:58So what did they do for week two?
02:00They dumbed it down to obscene levels.
02:04They did exactly what Sparty Radio said they would do.
02:07They're going to run Bryce.
02:08They have to.
02:09And they did.
02:11And I told you Friday, he'll make one big play with his legs.
02:14Talented kid.
02:15Hyper-athletic.
02:16And he did.
02:18But they attempted four passes in the second half.
02:22They didn't attempt a pass the last 11 minutes of the game.
02:26In two games in regulation, Bryce Underwood has produced 17 total points.
02:33You do not get credit for a fake Hail Mary,
02:35and you do not get credit when the defense hands you the ball at the five,
02:39and you hand it off.
02:42Nine passes.
02:44And to be even more clear, because I do not pander to my audience,
02:49they were allowing him to throw swings and screens.
02:53He threw exactly one ball that I would say is a nice Division I level throw
02:59where he feathered it over the zone and completed like a 13-yard ball.
03:05That's it.
03:06A five-yard hitch that Buchanan takes and makes 25, fine.
03:12It's a five-yard throw.
03:14I say that to say this.
03:16Do you even understand what's being done to your brain by these media hacks?
03:25Bryce did not play well.
03:27If the bar to clear is that he just didn't throw six interceptions and then rocket himself out of the
03:34stadium,
03:35then there's no conversation to be had.
03:36Your defense looks playoff good.
03:40Your offense looks three-win good.
03:43You can't run the ball.
03:44Your O-line's not great.
03:46And your quarterback cannot play the position right now.
03:49Now let me say this for the people in the back,
03:51and I'm not pandering to you.
03:53I'm being fair.
03:54There's a difference.
03:56Bryce can become whatever he wants to become.
03:59But as we sit here right now with what he has presented us so far, yikes.
04:06So all of the garbage, the pablum, the pandering out of that game about Bryce doing this and Bryce should
04:16take his entire NIL and give it to the defense.
04:20The defense won you that game.
04:22So we'll do a critical thinking exercise.
04:25I won't even do the thing of, hey, if Bryce Underwood played for OSU and played that exact game, what
04:30would you be saying about him?
04:31I won't even put you through the screws that way.
04:35Let's do it a different way.
04:38No, we're going to do it a different way.
04:40We're going to do an exercise in some critical thinking here, okay?
04:44When you look at this, imagine a world the defense simply doesn't hand you the ball at the five.
04:52And you lose that game 13-10.
04:57Did Bryce silence his critics?
04:59No.
05:00Did quote, and this is a direct quote from a media member, did Bryce give Michigan everything they needed?
05:05No.
05:06He did not.
05:07So I'm telling you, be fair to yourself.
05:12Identify you're being lied to.
05:15Identify pandering.
05:17And just watch the game and have your own thoughts.
05:20Can Bryce become something way different in six weeks?
05:24Sure.
05:25You better pray to God he does.
05:27Because as currently constituted, you can't play this way.
05:31You turned him into Denard Robinson.
05:35Your offense may as well be Navy.
05:38And that worked in 23 for a different reason.
05:42A, you had the other team's plays.
05:43But B, you had one of the historically great defenses, and you had a top-10 offensive line with a
05:50power running game featuring one NFL back in Blake Corum and another good college back in Num Nuts.
05:59What the hell was his name?
06:00Edwards.
06:01Donovan Edwards.
06:02Donovan Edwards, yeah.
06:03You don't have that right now.
06:06So I'm laying this out there so we can just have a conversation.
06:11Where are you at with U of M?
06:13Because defensively, Rico, that's playoff good.
06:17But offensively, I will not lie to my audience.
06:21And I will not.
06:22Bryce has to show us something different for me to say something different.
06:26That staff was petrified.
06:28Third and four, game on the line.
06:30Nah, run it.
06:31Third and seven in the fourth quarter.
06:35Nah, run it.
06:36They don't want to let him play.
06:38They went up 10-0.
06:40Because he can't.
06:40They went up 10-0, Mike.
06:41And it was almost as if the game plan at halftime, we're going to run out the second half.
06:47We're just going to bleed the clock.
06:49At 10-10, you can't do that.
06:50Snap the ball at one second.
06:52Get 40 seconds from each play.
06:55And let's just milk this thing.
06:57Because until they got the interception, everything was starting to tilt towards Oklahoma.
07:03Correct.
07:03They had just scored 10 unanswered points.
07:05They had the ball.
07:06And they looked like they were about to drive down the score.
07:09And then all of a sudden, it's the pick.
07:11Almost pick six.
07:12You score again.
07:13And at that point, they had nothing left.
07:15Because I thought, like you, man, they're going to end up kicking a walk-off field goal.
07:18They're going to get a lucky touchdown.
07:21When their coach comes out, when Whittingham comes out and says, hey, we had to change everything.
07:27It's like, what did you see all summer long that made you, all of a sudden, from week one, hey,
07:33maybe we're doing this wrong.
07:34Maybe we need to run him.
07:36Maybe we need to have less pass.
07:37Because you laugh when I originally said, hey, they're turning this into Denard Robinson 2.0.
07:44But that's like Denard Robinson type of stats, where you're going to run it, run it.
07:49Or you could put Alex Orgy or whatever.
07:52You're going to be the running QB at Michigan.
07:55Not the passing QB.
07:56Enrico, here's the thing.
07:57He has a nuclear arm, but he can't process.
08:00Like, there was a situation.
08:01Like, do you remember when they came out empty set in field goal range?
08:05He didn't identify the unblocked man.
08:07Oh, yeah.
08:08He takes a sack that knocks you out of field goal range.
08:10That's high school quarterbacking.
08:13Like, you know the guy off the edges unblocked.
08:16So you either get your protection slid, or there's a hot route off of that.
08:20And he didn't do either.
08:21And he got pulverized.
08:23And I'm going, dude, in a game that three points is salvation, you can't make that mistake in your second
08:29year.
08:29You can't.
08:30You have to assume that that guy is blitzing it.
08:32And he's not going to drop back into coverage because he was standing there with nobody in front of him.
08:38Bryce hiked the ball, looked to his left, never looked back right, and he ended up eating that football.
08:44Look, his development holds the key to their ability to make the playoff.
08:48Because right now, he's nowhere close.
08:50And when you start playing the rest of this really tough schedule, I mean, credit, they've got a tough schedule
08:56this year.
08:57Rico, 9 of 17 for 100 yards passing.
08:59And then asking him to run it 20 times and then not letting him have to do anything.
09:04You're so afraid of him blowing up the whole game plan that you can't.
09:09Think about how easy it is to basically, for a quarterback, and I don't want to nerd out,
09:14we can cut the field in half for you, and then we're going to do you one better.
09:19We'll give you pre-snap candy.
09:21We'll give you play action.
09:23Primary read, secondary read, or take off.
09:26They aren't even willing to let him do that.
09:29I was about to say, it is primary read, run.
09:32And they wouldn't even let him do it.
09:35So what does that say?
09:37Because in watching that game, I laughed because I was like,
09:40Mike, I know you have some sources because you called their game plan.
09:45I was incredible.
09:46Like, Mike literally said, this is going to run him and run him and run him.
09:50And I'll be damned.
09:52That's all they did.
09:53That's all they can do, man.
09:54And maybe at some point, it'll set up a bunch of play actions,
09:57and he can hit a couple of bombs a game and just throw it 70 yards.
10:01But Rico, this defense is really good, man.
10:04Congratulations.
10:05Michigan has now become Iowa football.
10:07Well, it's up to the people.
10:09But look, his development, he's got to get up to speed fast.
10:13He's just nowhere close.
