00:02The word that had come from the mouth of the Lord through Elijah had not yet finished being
00:07fulfilled. There was a queen in Jezreel, and the Lord had said what he would do with her.
00:17Jezebel grew old on the throne. She saw her husband die standing in a chariot.
00:24She saw one son fall from a window and another ascend the throne in his place.
00:30She saw Elijah taken away, or heard of it, because whoever took the prophet left no witnesses for the
00:37queen. And she remained seated where she had always been, with the same gods, the same palace,
00:45the same window. She thought the word spoken in Naboth's vineyard had died with the man who spoke
00:52it. But the word of the Lord does not die with the messenger. Elisha was no longer the farmer from
01:01Abel-Mahola. But the goatskin mantle still rested on his shoulders, and his eyes were still the same as
01:10they had been on the banks of the Jordan. He summoned one of the sons of the prophets, a thin
01:16young man of twenty, and placed a flask of oil in his hands.
01:23Gird up your legs. Take this flask of oil and go to Ramoth-Gileath. The army is camped there.
01:30Seek out Jehud, the son of Nimsi. You will find him sitting among the captains. Take him aside from
01:36his brothers. Bring him into an inner room and pour the oil on his head. And say,
01:40Thus says the Lord, I have anointed you king over Israel. Then open the door and flee. Do not wait.
01:49The young man looked at the flask.
01:52Is this what the Lord commanded Elijah to do at Horeb?
01:56It is. Elijah received the command. He never came to fulfill it. But the word was not taken up
02:04with him. It stayed as the mantle stayed. Go. He tightened his belt and ran.
02:13The camp smelled of smoke, leather, and horses. Brown tents stretched as far as the eye could see,
02:20spears planted in bundles, soldiers sharpening swords against stone. Among them was Jehu, son of
02:28Nimshi, commander of the army. The young man entered the courtyard, covered in dust and out of
02:34breath. The flask hidden beneath his mantle. I have a word for you, oh captain.
02:43To which of all of us? To you, oh captain.
