00:01Now hear what the Lord, the God of Israel, says.
00:05The jar of flour will not run out, and the flask of oil will not run dry,
00:10until the day the Lord sends rain upon the land.
00:13The wind stopped, and it appeared.
00:17The woman looked at the twigs in her hand.
00:22Why would I do that?
00:26Because you have nothing left to lose.
00:30And because I am not asking in my own name.
00:37So she went home, and he followed her.
00:41The house was a single mud-walled room, with a small oven, a shelf, and a low table.
00:47The boy sat on the floor, leaning against the wall, his thin knees drawn up to his chest.
00:53He looked at the stranger without saying a word.
00:56The woman reached into the vessel and took out what was left.
01:00It fit in the palm of her hand.
01:02She mixed in the oil and kneaded the dough.
01:06She baked the bread over the embers, a small loaf, the size of two hands.
01:11She handed it to the man without looking at him.
01:14Elijah broke it in two and gave the larger piece to the boy.
01:19Now make yours.
01:22She looked at him as one looks at a madman.
01:25She went to the shelf.
01:27She placed her hand in the jar, and her hand found flour.
01:32She withdrew her hand.
01:34She looked at it.
01:35She put it in again.
01:36Flour.
01:38She tilted the jug over the bowl, and the oil flowed, a thin, steady stream,
01:43and kept flowing past the point where it should have run out.
01:47The woman sat on the floor.
01:49She did not cry.
01:53What is your name?
01:57Elijah.
02:00Are you going to stay?
02:04I will stay as long as God tells me to.
02:08It remained.
02:10Day after day, the woman's hand dipped into the jar and came up with flour.
02:16Day after day, the oil flowed.
02:19Not in abundance.
02:21There was never any left over.
02:23But it never ran out.
02:26Inside, there was bread.
02:29Every day.
02:31The boy grew plump.
02:33The woman stopped counting sticks.
02:36And she learned to laugh again.
02:39Slowly.
02:40Like someone relearning a language.
02:46A year went by.
02:49Then another.
02:50Outside, the drought was no longer news.
