00:00Because you abandoned the commands of the Lord and followed the Baals.
00:06Now send and gather all Israel to me at Mount Carmel,
00:12and the 450 prophets of Baal,
00:14and the 400 prophets of Asherah who eat at Yebel's table.
00:21Let us decide before them all who is God.
00:26The king looked at the prophet.
00:27He looked at his own guards.
00:30He looked at the sky.
00:32And for the first time in three years,
00:36he saw a way out.
00:38Anything, anything other than waiting.
00:42Send all Israel.
00:47They came up from every village,
00:50from Samaria, from Jezreel, from Megiddo, from Dor.
00:54Men, women, the elderly leaning on staffs,
00:59mothers with thin children on their hips.
01:03Thousands, in slow lines along the mountain paths,
01:07dust rising behind them like smoke.
01:14No one knew quite what they were going to see.
01:18Everyone knew they needed to see it.
01:24High above, alone,
01:26a man waited with his back to the crowd.
01:30When the plateau was full,
01:32Elijah turned.
01:39How long will you limp between two opinions?
01:42If the Lord is God, follow him.
01:45If Baal is God, follow him.
01:54I alone am left a prophet of the Lord,
01:56and Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.
02:00Bring us two bulls.
02:02Let them choose first.
02:05They lay theirs on the wood,
02:07but kindle no flame.
02:09I will lay mine,
02:11and kindle none.
02:13Cry out to your God,
02:15and I will cry out to the Lord.
02:18Whichever one answers with fire,
02:20that one is God.
02:24They started early.
02:46The sky did not answer.
02:49At noon,
02:50Elijah crossed the plateau
02:52and stopped near them.
