The ruling party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagham has won both Dharapuram and Madurantakam in the Tamil Nadu Assembly bypolls, triggering celebrations among party leaders and supporters. The victories were described by the party as a mandate from voters and a rejection of electoral corruption and the use of money in politics. Leaders also said the campaign had successfully countered anti-incumbency narratives in both constituencies. Opposition leaders, meanwhile, criticised the outcome, with accusations of betrayal and claims that the campaign reflected a desperate political strategy. The results come amid intensifying rivalry between political parties across Tamil Nadu.

00:00Good evening, hello and welcome. You're watching Super 6 here on India Today.
00:03I'm Akshita Nantagopal. Over the next one hour, we'll get you all of the top stories of the day
00:08and focus on the big elections that played out today.
00:12One of huge consequence.
00:14On the show this evening, we're focusing on the bipolar battle that took place in Tamil Nadu.
00:19Two seats, two hugely significant, important seats.
00:23They were up for grabs and guess what? It's a Vijay wave across.
00:27The TVK managing to sweep both seats considered to be AIA-DMK strongholds.
00:32The AIA-DMK pushed to third place.
00:35There's clearly a churn in Tamil Nadu politics.
00:38We witnessed it months ago during the elections and now again, the bipolar is indicating that.
00:44I'll break down for you the big takeaways, the big headlines of that particular mandate.
00:47We'll also focus on the Bengal bipolar and what result that's thrown out.
00:53Because if it's a Vijay wave in Tamil Nadu, it's a saffron sweep in Bengal.
00:56We'll get you those details. Here are the headlines.
01:04Delhi fortified ahead of CJP's stir tomorrow.
01:08Cops see closure of 57 metro stations.
01:10Supreme Court says there shall be no complete prohibition of metros and trains.
01:16Urges centre to consider curbs.
01:25India block meet at old parliament building underway.
01:28Opposition MP's chalk out strategy ahead of meet with President Draupadi Murmu.
01:32Meet likely at 8pm tonight.
01:39Political heat intensifies after JNU dismisses Congress MP as professor over sexual harassment charges.
01:47BJP questions Gandhi's silence.
01:49Asks, is this how you smash the patriarchy?
01:58Chief Minister Vijay celebrates TVK's bipolar victory in style.
02:02He calls this a victory against slanderers' remarks against women.
02:05DMK Chief Stalin says victory built of false image in betrayal.
02:17BJP's landslide victory in Nandigram.
02:20Nandigram pick Hasirani Rath wins by over 1.22 lakh votes.
02:24Chief Minister Shuvendu lauds historic word.
02:34Noida Airport renamed after Prime Minister Modi.
02:38As Prime Minister Modi completes 25 years of Seva,
02:42Yogi Cabinet approves renaming Jewar Airport to Narendra Modi International Airport.
03:07Okay, let's get you the first reaction that's coming in from Chief Minister Vijayya.
03:11After the Bible sweep winning both Madhurandakam as well as Dharapuram,
03:16Chief Minister Vijayya has in fact said that this result is out.
03:22Once again, the people have affirmed the top position held by TVK in their hearts.
03:27He's also gone on to say that this victory has been achieved without paying a single penny for votes,
03:33without herding people into enclosures like cattle or humiliating them
03:39and without relying on what he refers to as the E-Road formula,
03:43suggesting essentially that they were paid crowds,
03:45because money is given, none of that the TVK does.
03:48Now, besides that, he's also said that the people have rejected Tamil Nadu being a fortress of corruption
03:54and rather wanted to be a stronghold of immense people power.
03:59Not just that.
04:00Chief Minister Vijayya has spoken of moneyocracy,
04:03saying that that has been defeated,
04:05a message of moneyocracy has been defeated by the people in this Bible.
04:09So, this is in fact the big update that's coming in with Chief Minister Vijayya saying
04:15that there's a response here to those who mocked and ridiculed the fact
04:19that we campaigned for injuries in these two constituencies.
04:21...
04:26...
04:28I am a father and I remember that when they were here, I had to give up.
04:37They were able to give up.
04:39They were able to give up and be in the same place.
05:19Let me bring in Apurva Jai Chandra, who is joining us live with more details on this massive victory for
05:26the TVK.
05:26Apurva, you've got celebrations all around, Tamil Nadu painted red and yellow once again and Chief Minister Vijay celebrating with
05:35his top team with a gesture that's now become his signature boob every time he decimates his rivals, the DMK
05:43and AIA-DMK.
07:09It's all worked.
07:14You know, it's all worked.
07:16His campaign there in those two seats has worked the magic that they needed for the TVK.
07:21This is, for obvious reasons, a celebration moment for Vijay.
07:24Because any narrative that suggested that there was anti-incumbency, any narrative that suggested that there's going to be a
07:29tough fight, all of that has been decimated there.
07:32In that signature gesture that Chief Minister Vijay is sending across exactly that message that we have prevailed once again.
07:41The TVK managing to win both those seats in the bi-pole.
07:43Let's get you now a DMK reaction.
07:45Thanks, Apurva.
07:46Let's get you a DMK reaction.
07:47MK Stalin has posted on social media on this bi-pole loss that the DMK has suffered.
07:54He's called it essentially the fall and the fall of politics built on a false image will begin very, very
08:01soon.
08:02Thanking the voters, you also had, in fact, a message that's come in from MK Stalin, where he says that
08:08these bi-elections were forced upon the people five months after the assembly election,
08:13suggesting that it was a result of horse trading that these AIA-DMK candidates jumped the gun to the TVK
08:19that led to this election.
08:20And so he says that these two MLAs abandoned their post, ignored the people's mandate and joined the ruling party.
08:27This was a murder of democracy.
08:30Now, this is the message that's come in from the DMK right now.
08:35And they're saying that Vijay entered politics just relying on his cinematic popularity, has become chief minister through political horse
08:42trading,
08:43believed that real-style theatrics would come to his rescue in these bi-elections as well.
08:48So he's mocked the entire campaign.
08:50But ultimately, as the DMK chief, MK Stalin, has made this entire comment,
08:55you've got the chief minister celebrating, the TVK celebrating right now.
09:00And while on one hand he says that the chief minister just spent four days in the two constituencies,
09:05chief minister Vijay has responded, saying that all of those narratives have now been destroyed.
09:15But a couple of headlines really, five big headlines that come to me and my mind when we speak of
09:22these bi-pole results.
09:23First, the beginning of the end for the AIA-DMK.
09:27The two-leaf symbol, red teller, which was very famous in Tamil Nadu,
09:31it would mean that huge, in fact, crowds would gather just by a look of that symbol.
09:36That symbol has weakened and how, this was the legacy of MGR, of Jailalita.
09:42It's been finished.
09:44They haven't been able to hold on to a seat even in the Kongu region.
09:48I'm referring to Darapuram.
09:49That's their stronghold.
09:51They're in third place in that seat.
09:53And so the legacy of MGR Amma is up for grabs.
09:57Vijay will claim that position.
09:59He's made it clear in his campaign too.
10:00The candidates who won were previously with AIA-DMK.
10:03This will mean he's going to swallow more of AIA-DMK's vote bank.
10:07Third, there's no anti-incumbency whatsoever against Vijay.
10:12Issues are there to be addressed, yes.
10:14Challenges are there, yes.
10:15But the Vijay factor is still the number one game changer in Tamil Nadu politics.
10:19And for the DMK to actually stand a chance against Vijay,
10:23they'll need to really reinvent themselves.
10:25Do something drastic like what?
10:27I honestly don't have the answer myself.
10:29Because right now, Vijay is a force that seems unstoppable in Tamil Nadu.
10:34Fourth, DMK still, yes, the main opposition to TVK.
10:38But their narrative of anti-incumbency hasn't worked.
10:41Their personal attacks haven't worked.
10:43Even Stalin personally campaigning hasn't helped.
10:46Fifth, a mandate from the people on the issue of horse trading.
10:50You hear this a lot.
10:51The political back and forth suggesting that MLAs have switched over because of money,
10:55because of greed, because of being offered ministerial births in the TVK government.
11:01The voters have sent across a message.
11:03They don't care about loyalty switch, about who the candidate is.
11:06This is a vote for Vijay, clearly.
11:10And expect now more leaders from the AIA-DMK to switch over to the TVK,
11:15which is why I started off by saying this is the beginning of the end for the AIA-DMK.
11:28It's a rerun of the Tamil Nadu assembly post when newcomer TVK emerged the biggest party.
11:39The party is taking the twin constituencies of Madhurantakam and Dharampuram from the AIA-DMK
11:45after bi-pose held this week.
12:12The DMK refused to take the setback lying down,
12:15blaming the bi-poll results on SIR and Chief Election Commissioner Jnanesh Kumar.
12:22The voters' lists were manipulated in such a way that many voters' names were removed from the list
12:28on the booths where the DMK had got more number of votes.
12:33So there is a planned action by the Election Commission, by Jnanesh Kumar.
12:42Independent candidate from Madhurantakam alleged machine malfunctioned at a counting centre.
12:48However, he was removed from the counting centre later.
13:10Defections triggered the bi-polls in both constituencies,
13:13making the outcome particularly significant for the AIA-DMK.
13:25The voter turnout figures also point to a notable decline compared with the previous Assembly elections.
13:33But the verdict opens up new opportunities for TVK to expand its footprint.
13:39It also raises questions about the opposition's standing in Tamil Nadu.
13:44With Pramod Madhav, Ananga Keshav and Apoorva Jai Chandran, Bureau Report, India Today.
13:53Okay, so we've got your reactions from both sides.
13:55Some of the highlights of what the day looked like as the bi-poll results trickled in.
13:59But obviously it's celebration right now in the TVK camp.
14:02Sanjeevi Sadagopan, political analyst.
14:04Sushil Rajkumar, political analyst.
14:06And Mr. Satya Kumar, national spokesperson of the TVK, joining us on this broadcast.
14:10First of all, Mr. Satya Kumar, congratulations.
14:13You know, you joined us on many shows on the bi-polls saying that yes, the TVK will win this.
14:18Turns out you're right.
14:21Yes, Sakshita.
14:22And I know that you're also a fan of my leader, Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
14:25Oh, no, no, no.
14:26Sir, you are setting me up to be trolled.
14:28No, no, no.
14:29You are independent journalist.
14:30You do the devil's advocate work as well.
14:32But anyhow, all the people in...
14:34In fact, Sushil is also a fan of my leader, Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
14:38See the smile that he has.
14:40He's saying no.
14:41Elections are part and parcel of any democratic system, Akshita.
14:45And here in bi-poll, we have won the election because people have a great trust on the leadership of
14:52Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Talabadi Vijay.
14:54The point here to be noted is, we are able to win this election because we were able to campaign.
15:00My leader is able to come to the rural parts of Tamil Nadu.
15:05In fact, we would have...
15:06If my leader would have come in April 2026, people like me would have won the election in the deep
15:13-routed rural villages in Tamil Nadu.
15:15So, that's the kind of response people have for the face of the leader.
15:20And even in this two constituency, it is the face of the leader that determined the success of the candidates
15:25who stood for election.
15:27So, the trust has increased.
15:29Our governance model, people are accepting.
15:33And they have great hope on the leadership of my leader, Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Talabadi Vijay.
15:39Okay. Sanjeevi, what do you make of today's result?
15:42Are you a Vijay fan?
15:44Since that's what we're starting off with.
15:46Yeah, of course. I'm also a Vijay fan. I was born and brought up in Chennai. I've seen so many
15:50movies in my childhood.
15:51So, I've seen so many movies. I'm a fan of him.
15:55So, but politics is absolutely a different game. But now, I've become his political fan too.
16:01So, this election results, it proved one thing, right?
16:04Like one, he is told he's going to win. Okay.
16:06And secondly, he also engineered a kind of narrative that will actually influence the result of the other two parties,
16:13right?
16:13He told, he was continuously failing the competitions between two parties.
16:17One is DMK and TVK, right?
16:19So, DMK landed second in both the seats, which are predominantly the ADMK seats.
16:24And as he told, he was calling the ADMK the Durasakfi, right?
16:29He was saying others, he was mentioning others, he did not take the name of ADMK anywhere.
16:32I think he took only once.
16:34So, they have pushed to third place.
16:36So, he's not only winning his own seat, but also trying to, you know, engineering, engineer how the other parties
16:43will perform in the elections, right?
16:44That is actually the beauty of it, right?
16:47Like he was constantly killing and he's trying to replace the ADMK entirely by bringing the voters.
16:53In fact, he also told Dharapuram that MGI's voters should vote for me.
16:57So, all these things have apparently happened in this election is what we can see.
17:01And the polarization, which generally happens in the seat like Dharapuram, where one dominant community vote for ADMK, that has
17:08been shattered this time, right?
17:10So, despite the communists contesting alone, like even they could not create any kind of dent or impact.
17:17So, everything like, I think the TVK has managed it very well.
17:20And as Satya Kumar told, if not for the candidates, people have voted, given the band-aid, to the chief
17:27minister face, right?
17:28Yeah.
17:29So, the candidates also face a lot of heat on the ground when they, especially the Dharapuram, the candidates face
17:33a lot of heat whenever, wherever she went.
17:36But it didn't matter.
17:36Because of waiting care.
17:36It didn't matter.
17:37Vijay came, campaigned, and so the vote came for TVK.
17:41That is what I'm trying to say.
17:41That is what I'm trying to say.
17:42You know, the rules of Tamil Nadu politics have been rewritten.
17:45There's no longer caste politics.
17:47You know, we used to speak about this dominant caste means this way it will swing.
17:51This is the symbol they've always been traditionally devoted to.
17:54That has completely gone out the door.
17:57There's no question of any loyalty based on caste community.
18:00Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
18:02Well, we will ultimately know.
18:03But I think what's good to also see is that this, that money power in an election also has come
18:09down.
18:09We saw this months ago in Tamil Nadu, and that holds true for this bipol as well.
18:13Mr. Sushil Rajkumar is with me also on this broadcast.
18:16Sushil, sir, you know, is this a case of sour grapes?
18:19I have seen a reaction that's come in from the DMK chief, M.K. Stalin, where once again he's gone
18:23back to the same narrative,
18:24referring to Chief Minister Vijay essentially as a real politician, saying, you know, he went on these colorful campaigns,
18:30did nothing for the people.
18:31The people have chosen, sir.
18:35Actually, this is not a massive victory for Mr. Vijay, as you all claim.
18:40I see this victory margin in both the by-elections compared to all other by-elections.
18:45This is the 48th time Tamil Nadu is witnessing by-elections.
18:4938 times the ruling party at that time won the elections.
18:53I see this result as the beginning of the end of Mr. Vijay's popularity.
19:00Remember, he is only four months old.
19:02He has got the massive victory in only June itself.
19:06Now, at that time, he was hyped that he came down from heaven.
19:10And he is hyped as he is all-powerful and he commands all over popularity in Tamil Nadu, which is
19:15not true.
19:17In fact, Mr. Vijay has to go to the villages and drive tractors, eat chai and the roadshed shop and
19:24meet people for nearly whole day.
19:26But that's politics, sir.
19:29That's politics, sir.
19:29That's politics, sir.
19:30You can't expect...
19:31You know, if he sat back in Chennai and watched the by-polls, then the DMK would have been critical,
19:36saying, oh, the chief minister has no time for these two seats.
19:41No, actually, that is politics.
19:42No, actually, that is politics.
19:43What I am saying is, Vijay is just a politician.
19:47No, Mr. Vijay is just a politician who has to do all the gimmicks and drama which played by other
19:53political parties.
19:54He is not different from all other parties.
19:56That's what I am trying to say.
19:58This election was forced on the people by the power-hungry Mr. Vijay.
20:03And these two assembly segments went to the elections because TVK purchased two MLA's from AAADMK.
20:11This message was taken by the opposition parties to the nook and corners of two assembly segments.
20:19If Mr. Vijay had come and such a respect and popularity in these two assembly segments, he should have won
20:25the elections at least by 50,000 margin.
20:27But it is not so.
20:29So, I see these things as a downfall for Mr. Vijay in just four months.
20:34I don't see any other chief minister losing popularity in just a short period of time.
20:39So, this is the reality of Mr. Vijay.
20:41Mr. Vijay has understood this reality.
20:42That is why he has went to the two assembly segments directly for himself to see what the people think
20:48about the government.
20:49He did not talk anything about the success of his government for the past four months.
20:54Okay.
20:54Mr. Satya Kumar, your response?
20:56That this wasn't such a big win after all.
20:58No.
20:59See, Akshita, the point to be noted here is both are rural constituencies.
21:04And rural constituency, people vote based on issue and people vote based on the trust.
21:09It is just not swing votes that has come here.
21:13People have increased their hope on the honorable chief minister of Tamil Nadu, Talabadi, Vijay.
21:18That has translated into a result which is a winning margin.
21:22And if you see, the vote share of the ADMK and also the vote share of the DMK in comparison
21:30with TVK has gone down.
21:32So, what we have to really look at is, it is just not a swing votes that has moved to
21:37TVK.
21:38It is the trust that has got the votes of the people, that too from rural areas.
21:44And what I understand is, in all the Booth analysis, and when I checked with the people,
21:49they could be able to predict that women have voted in large numbers to TVK.
21:53It is one of the analysis that they are able to do by doing a feedback survey after the winning
22:00of the election.
22:01So, women are voting in numbers.
22:04This is the same trend MGR had.
22:06See, the same trend MGR had.
22:08And the same trend will continue for TVK.
22:09So then, Mr. Satyakumar, are you attempting to claim the position that the twin leaf symbol had,
22:14that the AADMK had in Tamil Nadu?
22:18Actually, we are not claiming.
22:19See, first thing we need to understand is,
22:21AADMK is always driven by charismatic leadership.
22:24Since 2017, when Mr. Yadapati K. Paniswamy took over the party,
22:30he was not charismatic.
22:32He was not even meeting his own MLAs and his own party leaders.
22:36So, he has been denying appointments.
22:38And he was not that charismatic to attract party cadres as well.
22:42So, Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Talipati Vijay's face,
22:46being the face of the TVK,
22:48and people are moving towards his charismatic leadership.
22:51Accordingly, two leaps now, which was actually built based on charisma,
22:55is losing its relevance,
22:57because people are moving towards Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Talipati Vijay.
23:00That's the only reason.
23:02It's the leadership crisis of AADMK,
23:04and charismatic leadership of TVK.
23:07That's the reason that AADMK is nowhere now.
23:10And by the way,
23:12it is an overestimation of himself,
23:15of EPS,
23:16that has led the party to this level.
23:18And, of course,
23:19our party's leadership and governance model
23:22has attracted,
23:23because of the face of the leader.
23:25You know, explain this to me, Sanjeevi,
23:27how the TVK right now is eating into
23:29what was the traditional vote pack of the AADMK.
23:31Sure, there's a leadership vacuum,
23:33but it's interesting if you see the campaign,
23:35how Chief Minister Vijay
23:36referred to the DMK,
23:37but never named the AADMK.
23:39And yet,
23:40it is in this AADMK stronghold,
23:42so the TVK has done so well,
23:44claiming the legacy of MGR,
23:45eating into what was otherwise a traditional vote pack.
23:50See, I think the TVK has removed two leaves from AADMK, right?
23:54We just said,
23:55they're taken out of leaves, right?
23:57So, he has removed one leaf MGR,
23:59the second leaf Jailanta, right?
24:01So, it's converted into the whistle right now.
24:03And it is a perception, right?
24:05Like, wherever you see,
24:06Vijay coming in a campaign,
24:07he's trying to set the narrative,
24:08okay, I'm the next big face, right?
24:10Like, he's trying to just copy the DNA of AADMK.
24:14Like, even though the spokesperson,
24:16the leaders were sitting on the TV channels,
24:19especially Tamil channels,
24:20most of the people are from the AADMK, right?
24:22They are sitting and attacking the DMK party
24:25and other opposition
24:25and talking in the favor of the TVK.
24:29So, it's subconsciously creating some kind of an imagery,
24:34okay, this is the actual AADMK,
24:35and AADMK is not anymore.
24:37Like, he is,
24:37TVK is actually the actual person
24:40who can actually defeat the DMK.
24:41So, that kind of image
24:43or the imagery has been set
24:46in the minds of people, right?
24:47Like, even...
24:48No, so the AADMK by itself
24:50is a political giant.
24:52If the TVK,
24:53and Vijay has already proved his worth,
24:55now, if he manages to also swallow the AADMK,
24:58that creates a monster that the DMK,
25:00Mr. Sushil Rajkumar,
25:01will struggle to be going forward.
25:03You know, you put forward a narrative
25:04of anti-incumbency.
25:05You put forward a narrative
25:07that Vijay is a realist politician.
25:08None of it worked.
25:10He's got to connect with the people,
25:12irrespective of whether he was a superstar.
25:16No, I'm not saying
25:17he's not a superstar.
25:18I'm not saying
25:19that he's facing anti-incumbency.
25:21I'm saying
25:21that Vijay is just a politician.
25:24He's not as hyped
25:25by people like you,
25:27that he's just ascended from heaven,
25:29and he's here to save Tamil Nadu.
25:32It's not like...
25:32Sir, sir, sir, I haven't used
25:34any of those words, by the way.
25:36I haven't used any of those words,
25:37but on a day when he's won
25:39two bipoles against two parties
25:41that have ruled for decades together,
25:43you know, one time...
25:44No, actually...
25:45One time the DMK suggested
25:46that this was a fluke win.
25:47The second time also,
25:49it can't be the case.
25:52No, actually,
25:54TVK is a ruling party.
25:55I expect TVK to win
25:57these two assembly segments.
25:59I already told many channels
26:01that the two assembly segments
26:02will be TVKs.
26:04I don't doubt their victory.
26:06But the victory margin, you see,
26:08it's not that
26:09Vijay is commanding
26:10so much popularity in Tamil Nadu.
26:11The victory margin
26:13should be at least
26:1430,000 or 40,000 or 50,000
26:16to claim that
26:17Vijay is commanding
26:18so much popularity in Tamil Nadu.
26:19But it is not so.
26:20When Jayalda Madam
26:21was chief minister,
26:22and she was facing by-election,
26:24she won all the by-election
26:25by more than 40,000 won.
26:27DMK also won like that.
26:28But you remember one thing.
26:30Vijay is only four months old.
26:32He has won the elections
26:34in June only.
26:35Now we are only in October.
26:37But the victory margin
26:38is very low.
26:39So I see this as a downfall
26:41of Mr. Vijay's popularity
26:42and this is the beginning
26:44of the end of Mr. Vijay.
26:45This is the truth.
26:47You will see.
26:47In the meantime,
26:48in the coming days,
26:49you will see that
26:50people raise their voice
26:51against Mr. Vijay's
26:53inactive administration
26:56in the efforts
26:58concerning the state.
26:59Because he is taking
27:00many measures
27:01which are against
27:02people's mandate.
27:03People just believe him.
27:04I don't deny that.
27:05But what he is doing
27:06in Patnambakam
27:07is not matching
27:10to what he claims
27:12that he is.
27:13Because he is doing
27:13what people don't want.
27:14But these issues
27:14already existed, sir.
27:15It hasn't happened now.
27:16In every issue.
27:17It happened before voting.
27:19So they very well knew
27:20that this is where
27:21the chief minister
27:21stand on these issues.
27:25No, the Patnambakam issue
27:26was created by Mr. Vijay only.
27:28All other issues also,
27:30Mr. Vijay is not showing
27:31any interest in governance.
27:32That is our accusation
27:33against Mr. Vijay.
27:35That is why Mr. Vijay,
27:36he himself directly
27:37went to campaign
27:38for two days.
27:39It's very unhaired for.
27:41Because in the assembly
27:42generalization also,
27:43he never went to,
27:44at least I think
27:45he went to
27:46for some 17
27:47assembly constituencies.
27:48It was just five,
27:49five, six days only he went.
27:50Because he is not expecting
27:52such a big victory
27:53for his party.
27:54Now he has,
27:55he has a pressure from,
27:57he has a pressure
27:58to at least maintain
27:59that one.
28:00Now he has only
28:01two assembly segments.
28:02Now he is only
28:04commanding 109 only.
28:05He is not
28:05attained the majority.
28:07So why he want
28:08to attain majority?
28:09Because he claims
28:10he is a
28:10Thuviyasakti.
28:11Let him,
28:12let him run the government
28:13with 109 MLAs.
28:15Let him,
28:16let the government fall.
28:17Let Mr. Vijay
28:18go to the people
28:18and tell the,
28:19tell the people
28:20that I tried
28:21to run the government.
28:22The opposition parties
28:23did not allow me
28:24to run the government.
28:25Now I am standing
28:26before you.
28:26Give me justice.
28:27That is what
28:28Mr. Vijay
28:28is expected to do.
28:29But Mr. Vijay
28:31is indulging in
28:31horse trading.
28:33This is against
28:33the nature in Tamil Nadu.
28:34This is unhaired for
28:35in Tamil Nadu.
28:36Mr. Satya Kumar,
28:37this is a constant
28:37criticism that comes up
28:39that even
28:39the DNK chief,
28:41M.K. Stalin
28:41has posted about
28:42saying that this
28:43bipolar is necessitated
28:44because of horse trading.
28:46So there is no horse trading
28:47because the MLA
28:49has voluntarily resigned
28:50and they come
28:51for the charismatic
28:52leadership of my leader,
28:54Honorable Chief Minister
28:54of Tamil Nadu,
28:55Talabadi Vijay.
28:56It is a voluntary
28:57resignation.
28:58And many could also resign.
29:00That is the,
29:00there is no bar
29:02in the law.
29:03Neither the
29:04Representative People Act
29:05nor the Constitution
29:05of India
29:06bars a representative
29:08from resigning
29:09from one party
29:09and coming
29:10and contesting
29:11another party.
29:12So what is an horse trading?
29:14First of all,
29:15Mr. M.K. Stalin
29:15should understand.
29:16He keeps saying
29:17everything is an horse trading.
29:18There are instances
29:19within the DMK.
29:20There are instances
29:21within the ADMK
29:22when people
29:22left the party
29:23and joined their party
29:24and then recontested.
29:25I can show you
29:26multiple examples
29:26in across India.
29:27So that does not
29:29alligate saying
29:30it is an horse trading.
29:31It is a voluntarily
29:32they give up the,
29:33they give up
29:34resignation
29:35and they come,
29:35come here.
29:36And we accommodate them
29:37because they,
29:38they come as a,
29:39they come to our party
29:41because of the party's
29:43success and postpone also.
29:44It is,
29:45it is their liberty.
29:46So representatives' liberty
29:47that they are resigning
29:48and coming here.
29:49So just the people
29:51allegating saying
29:52that it's an horse trading.
29:53It's only an allegation
29:55which can never,
29:56ever
29:57taken up
29:58in the court of law
29:59as well.
29:59But do you think,
30:00Sir,
30:01Sanjeevi,
30:02you know,
30:02looking at this right now,
30:04the situation,
30:04what it means is also
30:05that the TVK's numbers
30:06go up.
30:07There's still,
30:08of course,
30:08in need of many more
30:09to actually have
30:11these kind of bipoles
30:12to win these seats
30:13to be able to be
30:14on a majority
30:15on their own.
30:16But do you see now
30:17more leaders
30:18from the AIATMK
30:19switching over
30:19to the TVK
30:20that this will now
30:21open the floodgates?
30:23Just a small response
30:24to Sushil, sir.
30:25He was talking about
30:26the Patanabakum issue.
30:27It's so naive to believe
30:28that Patanabakum
30:29is going to impose
30:29these two elections.
30:30It's not even fisheries area.
30:32So it doesn't have
30:33any connection
30:33with Patanabakum.
30:34And secondly,
30:35people are not going
30:36to remember
30:37what is the vote difference.
30:38People are going to remember
30:39who won the election.
30:41If I ask him
30:41what was the
30:43margin difference
30:43between the Congress
30:45and the other candidate
30:47in the Erode election,
30:48Erode bipolar election,
30:49like during the DMK agenda,
30:50you will not remember.
30:52Like in 2016,
30:53RK Nagar,
30:54that was the main election.
30:55He will not remember
30:55what is the margin, right?
30:57Yeah.
30:57Of course,
30:58who is going to win matters,
31:00right?
31:00And coming back
31:01to the point,
31:03like I think
31:04the five
31:05AC by-elections
31:06are going to happen
31:07in the month of December,
31:07right?
31:08Like Serendu Rai,
31:10Virali Malai
31:10and one more.
31:11Okay,
31:11my apologies
31:12for interrupting,
31:13but we have
31:14a minister
31:14Mr. Arun Raj
31:16joining us.
31:16So I'd like to thank
31:17all of you
31:17for joining us
31:18on this broadcast.
31:19Thank you
31:20for joining us.
31:21Let me switch across now
31:22to Minister Arun Raj.
31:25Sir,
31:25Vanakam,
31:26congratulations.
31:27I'll put up the picture
31:28that was posted
31:29just moments ago
31:30of you
31:31with the Honourable
31:32Chief Minister
31:33and with the top team
31:34of the TVK,
31:35as I call you all,
31:36with the signature gesture
31:37now
31:38that you've slayed
31:39in Gen Z terms.
31:40You've slayed
31:41this by-pull.
31:42How are you feeling, sir?
31:43Tell me what
31:44the Chief Minister's
31:45message has been
31:45after this win.
31:48Vanakam,
31:49thank you for
31:49having me
31:50in your show.
31:52This election
31:53has been historic
31:54for a few reasons.
31:56First,
31:57during the May
31:58general elections,
31:59TVK,
32:00standing on its own,
32:02secured
32:0335% worth share
32:04and managed
32:06to win
32:06108 seats.
32:08Few peoples,
32:09especially from
32:10DMK and all,
32:11were saying that
32:11this was a freak
32:12accident.
32:13No,
32:14the people of
32:14the two
32:15constituencies
32:16have proved
32:17that
32:17Tamil Nadu people
32:19have voted
32:19consciously
32:20and deliberately
32:22for a change.
32:23They wanted
32:24TVK government
32:26and
32:27Piro B.J.
32:28as their CM.
32:29This election
32:30has proved that.
32:32So this is
32:33an election
32:33which is a testament
32:34to the fact that
32:36four months
32:37of governance
32:38under our
32:39honourable CM
32:39which was
32:41never imagined,
32:42people never
32:43experienced in the
32:44recent past,
32:45which is a
32:46transparent,
32:47corruption-free
32:48government.
32:49So this is the
32:50mandate
32:51the people
32:52have given us
32:53and we have
32:54fulfilled that
32:55mandate.
32:55And this is the
32:57result which
32:58people have
32:58gifted us to us.
33:00Our honourable
33:02chief mess
33:02was really,
33:03really happy
33:04and he had
33:05said that
33:05it is our
33:06duty to
33:07fulfil the
33:08aspirations of
33:08this,
33:09not only
33:09these two
33:11people of
33:12these two
33:13constituencies
33:13but the
33:14entire state.
33:14Mr. Arun Raj,
33:15I do wonder
33:16though,
33:16was the game
33:17changer just
33:18the Vijay
33:19factor?
33:20Was it just
33:20the chief
33:21minister campaigning
33:21in these two
33:22seats that
33:22sealed the
33:23win for the
33:23TVK?
33:27Our leader's
33:28campaign definitely
33:28had a huge
33:30impact and
33:31also one
33:32message which
33:33our leader had
33:33conveyed and
33:34definitely
33:36the right
33:37court.
33:37It is because
33:38the people of
33:39the two
33:40other parties,
33:41PMK and
33:42ADMK,
33:42were campaigning
33:43that this
33:43election was
33:44because of
33:45the fact that
33:47TVK had
33:50purchased
33:51their MLAs,
33:52the fact that
33:53our leader
33:53clearly sent
33:55the message
33:55that it was
33:55due to the
33:56unholy
33:57alliance which
33:58the ADMK
33:58and DMK,
33:59which they
33:59tried to
34:00form after
34:00those elections
34:01to prevent
34:02the TVK
34:03from forming
34:03the government.
34:04It was
34:04because of
34:05that our
34:06ADMK
34:07candidate,
34:07the previous
34:08S-12 ADMK
34:09candidate resigned
34:10from her seat
34:11and joined
34:12TVK.
34:12This message
34:13had in the
34:13right courts
34:14and this
34:14had been a
34:15real game
34:17changer for
34:17the results.
34:19Mr. Arunraj,
34:20I'm not sure
34:20if you've seen
34:21the reaction
34:21that's coming
34:22from the
34:22DMK.
34:23The former
34:23chief minister
34:24M.K.
34:25Stalin has
34:25put out a
34:26detailed post
34:26where first he
34:28suggests that
34:28this bipolar
34:29was necessitated
34:29because of
34:30the TVK's
34:31horse trading
34:31which you've
34:32spoken of.
34:33Second,
34:33he says
34:34that
34:34chief minister
34:35Vijay
34:35visited these
34:37two constituencies
34:37four times,
34:39indulged in all
34:40kinds of
34:40theatrics as
34:41he calls it,
34:42says he's
34:43nothing but
34:43a reals
34:44politician.
34:45What's your
34:45response,
34:46sir,
34:46to the
34:46DMK today?
34:52I've seen
34:53our former
34:54chief minister's
34:55statement.
34:56He was saying
34:56that our
34:57CMB had to
34:59visit the
35:00constituencies
35:00two times.
35:01But I'd like
35:02to state
35:03that previously
35:04in the last
35:0515-25 years,
35:07you must have
35:07known how
35:08by-elections
35:08were conducted
35:09in Tamil Nadu.
35:11The people,
35:13especially
35:13DMK,
35:14when it was
35:14in favor,
35:16they had
35:16hoarded
35:17people just
35:18like cattle
35:19and sheep
35:19in camps.
35:20They had
35:21given,
35:22they used
35:22to spend
35:23nearly
35:245,000 to
35:2410,000
35:25per vote.
35:26But TVK,
35:27without spending
35:27a single
35:28penny to
35:30woo the
35:31voters,
35:31we just
35:32campaigned.
35:33We went
35:33door to
35:34door.
35:34We just
35:35highlighted
35:35the performance
35:36of our
35:36government,
35:37achievements
35:37of our
35:37government,
35:38and the
35:38clean
35:39government
35:40which our
35:41party is
35:42giving.
35:43So before
35:44the elections,
35:44we promised
35:45that we will
35:46be giving
35:46a corruption
35:46free government,
35:47now we have
35:48delivered it.
35:49So we
35:51sent all
35:52our cadres
35:53to the
35:53people to
35:54convey this
35:55message.
35:55This is what
35:56we have
35:56done.
35:57And also
35:58our honorable
36:00previous CM
36:01statement that
36:02it was
36:02catering.
36:04I could
36:05only wish
36:06that he
36:07could really
36:08see the
36:08pulse of
36:08the people
36:09in order
36:10to gain,
36:11if at all,
36:11if they
36:12really wish
36:12to win
36:13the
36:14support of
36:16the people.
36:18Sir,
36:18what do you
36:19declare this
36:20mandate to
36:20be?
36:21Is it a
36:21mandate against
36:22caste politics?
36:23Is it a
36:24mandate against
36:25personal
36:26attacks?
36:26Is it a
36:27mandate that
36:28there is no
36:28anti-incumbency
36:30that seeped into
36:31the ground?
36:31What would you
36:32declare this
36:33mandate to
36:33be?
36:37On the
36:38positive side,
36:38it is a
36:39mandate for
36:40the good
36:41governance of
36:42our honorable
36:43CM.
36:43Secondly,
36:44it is a
36:44mandate against
36:45the personal
36:46attacks,
36:46especially
36:47against women.
36:47These other
36:48two parties
36:49were constantly
36:50wielding.
36:51That was
36:52their only
36:52strategy they
36:53were using.
36:54And unfortunately,
36:55that strategy
36:56has failed.
36:56So this
36:57mandate clearly
36:58conveys these
36:59two messages,
36:59as has been
37:00rightly pointed
37:00out by our
37:01honorable
37:01CM.
37:03All right.
37:03Mr.
37:04Arun Raj,
37:04I'll let you
37:05get back to
37:05the celebrations.
37:06And I'm
37:07sure in your
37:07case, it must
37:08be the
37:08non-stop
37:09meetings only.
37:10But thank
37:10you very much
37:11for joining
37:12us, Mr.
37:12Arun Raj.
37:13Congratulations
37:13once again.
37:18Now, what
37:18have these
37:19biopoles
37:19indicated?
37:20A couple
37:21of takeaways,
37:22yes, about
37:22the TV case
37:23presence, about
37:24Vijay's charisma,
37:25all of that
37:26continuing to
37:26grab the
37:27imagination of
37:28the voters.
37:28But it's
37:29also highlighted
37:30very, very
37:31importantly, the
37:31growing crisis
37:32within the
37:32AIA-DMK.
37:34From winning
37:35these seats,
37:36in a handful
37:36of seats that
37:37they managed to
37:37win, these were
37:38the few that
37:38they managed to
37:39seal, and that
37:40they've lost in
37:41October now to
37:42TVK.
37:43What's changed in
37:44just a matter of
37:45six months?
37:45Is this the
37:46beginning of the
37:47end for the
37:48AIA-DMK?
37:49here's a report?
37:52The two leaves symbol
37:55sowed by MGR and
37:56nurtured by Jai
37:57Lalitha is now
37:58wilting under
37:59E. Palani
38:00Swami.
38:00The twin
38:01constituency
38:02biopoles in
38:03Tamil Nadu have
38:04exposed a deepening
38:05crisis within the
38:06AIA-DMK, raising
38:08questions about the
38:09party's political
38:10future.
38:11EPS, who was
38:12brazen in dismissing
38:13Vijay's challenge
38:14before the polls,
38:15has now suffered
38:16another setback,
38:17after losing
38:18Madhur Antakam and
38:20Dhara Puram, which
38:21it had in the
38:21assembly polls.
38:42What would hurt
38:44the AIA-DMK more
38:45is Vijay's attempt
38:47to claim MGR legacy?
38:50A simple
38:51question.
38:54Who is
38:56a RCL?
39:02Who is
39:02a RCL?
39:04This is
39:05a TIA-Sakhti
39:06TIA-Sakhti
39:09TIA-Sakhti
39:09TIA-Sakhti
39:09TIA-Sakhti
39:10TIA-Sakhti
39:10TIA-Sakhti
39:11TIA-Sakhti
39:23TIA-Sakhti
39:26TIA-Sakhti
39:26TIA-Sakhti
39:34TIA-Sakhti
39:40to the TVK. And now, the defeat in the very seats they won just five months ago. The twin
39:46defeats are a wake-up call for the AIADMK. If the party hopes to remain a major force
39:52in Tamil Nadu politics, it will need to reassess its strategy. Bureau Report, India Today.
40:28You've got essentially this meeting that will be taking place between Rahul Gandhi and Chief
40:32Minister Vijay tomorrow afternoon in Chennai. Like I said, Rahul Gandhi
40:36is in Chennai tomorrow for the Chatro Ki Goonji event, which is taking place
40:40the third edition is taking place in Chennai tomorrow, which is
40:44expected to be a big event. Now, there won't be any
40:48attendance there at the event by Chief Minister Vijay, but instead, we understand that
40:52Rahul Gandhi will be meeting with the Chief Minister in the afternoon before
40:56he goes ahead with his event in the city.
41:03Bengal's bipolar battle has ended in a BJP sweep. From Shuvindu Adhikari's Nandi Graham
41:08bastion to Muslim Majority Reggie Nagar, the Safran Party has won both seats,
41:13delivering a political message to Bengal's new power establishment.
41:37Even a bi-poll for two seats in Bengal can turn into a full-blown political showdown.
41:46Nandi Graham and Reggie Nagar were the battlegrounds this time, and the verdict is out.
41:51The BJP has swept both seats.
42:00But these victories come against the backdrop of controversy,
42:04political realignments, and a change of regime in Bengal.
42:11Take Nandi Graham. For a decade, this constituency has become synonymous with one name,
42:17Suvindu Adhikari.
42:23In 2016, he won the seat as a TMC candidate.
42:27In 2021, he switched sides, led the BJP to victory,
42:31and defeated Mamata Banerjee in one of Bengal's most high-profile electoral battles.
42:39In 2026, he retained the seat for the BJP.
42:43And now, in the bi-poll, the BJP has fielded a candidate with a deeply personal connection
42:48to Subhindu Adhikari's political journey.
42:51Hasi Rani Rat, the mother of his slain aide, Chandan Rat.
42:55She has now won the seat, carrying forward the BJP's winning streak in Nandi Graham.
43:20Hasi Rani Rat, the mother of his slain aide, Chandan Rat.
43:30Reji Nagar, too, has gone saffron.
43:33And this is a constituency where the political stakes were particularly high.
43:41A Muslim-majority seat, Reji Nagar had backed Umayyum Kabir in the Assembly elections earlier this year.
43:48This time, the BJP has emerged victorious,
43:51a result that puts the spotlight on the shifting electoral equations
43:56in a minority-dominated constituency.
44:03For the BJP, the bi-poll results offer fresh political momentum.
44:07And for the rival TMC factions, the numbers tell their own story.
44:12Neither has managed to stop the BJP's march in these two constituencies.
44:18In Bengal, the battle for political dominance is far from over.
44:22But in these two bi-polls, the BJP has made its message count at the ballot box.
44:40And Prime Minister Modi has posted his congratulations and thanks to the people of Bengal for the bi-poll result,
44:48as well as the result that's come in from the Nagao seat of Assam,
44:53saying that the results of Nagao and the Assembly results of Nandi Gram as well as Reji Nagar
44:58show yet again that the people have a deep-rooted connect with the good governance agenda of BJP and NDA.
45:04I congratulate the victorious BJP candidates, applaud the hard work of our party, Karyakartas.
45:09He also says, and I quote,
45:11this is on Puducheri, referring to the win there for the NDA ally, AINRC,
45:18in Tattin Chavadi, in Puducheri.
45:20Prime Minister Modi has extended his congratulations to them as well,
45:23saying that this gives us added strength to work tirelessly for the welfare of the people
45:28and to fulfil their aspirations.
45:34That's all we have time for in this edition of Super 6.
45:36Thanks very much for tuning in.
